I know that OSE is very complete and quite stable. On the other hand Twisted seems more Python and less C++, but I don't know how mature it is. It may be that they are not really comparable and that one will be much better suited to what I'm trying to do - will have to inverstigate . . . FYI: Epoz 0.6 with CSS-Support
by Maik Jablonski 15 Oct '03

15 Oct '03

Hi to all, today I've released Epoz 0.6 - the CSS-Support-Release. If you ever used Epoz, you should upgrade. If not, you should have a look...:) What is Epoz? Epoz is a cross-browser-wysiwyg-editor for Zope/Plone/Silva etc. Epoz can easily be integrated into your own applications too (one line of code). Where can I see a demo? http://mjablonski.freezope.org/epoz/test.html/edit What has changed in 0.6? - Epoz renders now the wysiwyg-textarea with your given css-styles. This gives you a more realistic feeling about the look of your work (esp. in Plone). Many kudos to Ariel Sebbag for the solution to a real problem!!! - Fixed issue for from time to time disabled wysiwyg-areas on Mozilla. Removed EpozTimeOut by a try-catch-poll in order to get Mozilla working in wysiwyg-mode. Many thanks to Guido Wesdorp for this idea!!! - Improved Table-Popup: Now you can insert tables with or without heads. - Added nowrap-style around Epoz-Toolbar so buttons won't break onto two lines. Where can I buy Epoz? Nowhere... Epoz is for free. Epoz is developed for the project e-teaching@university (powered by Bertelsmann-Foundation / Germany) at the University of Bielefeld as contribution to the Zope/Plone-Community and is released under the Zope Public License. Where can I download Epoz? http://zope.org/Members/mjablonski/Epoz/ Hope you like it...:) Cheers, Maik

RE: [Zope] Invalidate RAM cahce manager programatically
by Jim Kutter 15 Oct '03

Ok here's what I was doing wrong. What I neglected to mention was that I am also using a ZCatalog to kind of cache SQL results, and facilitate searching. The catalog is what returns the SQL results to the script for rendering. What I discovered was that calling catalog_object doesn't re-catalog the SQL results like I thought it would. I had to uncatalog_object first, then catalog_object to have the changes from the database kick in. I presumed that multiple calls to catalog_object would overwrite the ZCatalog's entry with new data. Thanks mucho for everyone's help. -jim -----Original Message----- From: Jim Kutter Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2003 10:55 AM To: Dan Pierson Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] Invalidate RAM cahce manager programatically I found the Zcachable_invalidate call yesterday after my first post, but I couldn't get it working properly, and figured it was the wrong way to go. What's happening is that even after invalidating it, it still appears to be cached. The value is changed in the database. I suspect I'm running into a double-caching issue with the SQL methods too. Does the presence of a ram cache manager affect the SQL method's caching techniques? Or is it completely separate? -jim -----Original Message----- From: Dan Pierson [mailto:dan@control.com] Sent: Thursday, October 09, 2003 10:29 AM To: Jim Kutter Subject: RE: [Zope] Invalidate RAM cahce manager programatically No, you've picked a good tree :-) For each cached item that you want to invalidate, call ZCacheable_invalidate(). For example, if you have something (dtml, python script, page template?) named 'cacheable_article'. Invoke cacheable_article.ZCacheable_invalidate() Now if you want to do this for multiple ZEO clients the problem gets harder. I came up with my own crude invalidation server that ran in parallel to the ZEO server. Jim Fulton suggested that I could just hack the ZEO server protocol to carry my invalidation messages as well as its. I looked into it but was more than a bit terrified at the thought of messing with the ZEO protocol and maintaining the result. Hi Chris, Thanks for the response back. I usually post back to the group once I have the answer or solution to my problem but I am cc'ing the list here. You had originally asked me to give you more information on the dates and that I should look at the bobobase_modification_time. I do not know how to look that the bobobase_modification_time so I looked up methods on how to look at that off of some other sites but from what you stated below I do not really need to look it. > No, because it'd be the wrong thing to use in this > case. My question was because > you may already be using it without knowing it, > hence the problems you're having. How will I know if I am using the bobobase_modification_time Thanks Again, JIm --- Chris Withers <chrisw(a)nipltd.com> wrote: > Jim Barbara wrote: > > > <dtml-var > > > "_['/Members/jab/Photo_Album.2003-09-09.5950'].bobobase_modification_time()"> > ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ > That's invalid syntax. > > And you really don't want to be using DTML ;-) ZPT > is MUCH nicer... > > > 3. Indexing msword docs in ZCatalog
by Ruth Mizzi 15 Oct '03

15 Oct '03

Hi, I've got a ZCatalog that takes care of indexing all my pages so that I can use a search feature on my web page. The page also contains a DocumentLibrary so that an administrator can upload documents onto the page and then refresh the catalog. I'm managing to upload succesfully pdf, text and msword documents but am having a problem with the indexing of the msword docs.... as far as I know the DocumentFiles added to the DocumentLibrary supports full text searchability for msword docs. Am I missing something? do I need to convert the docs in any way before uploading for them to be catalogued succesfully? Cheers Ruth

xmlrpc and charsets
by Gilles Lenfant 15 Oct '03

15 Oct '03

I'm stuck hacking the xmlrpc stuff. I can't understand the charset rules with xmlrpc in the Zope implementation. Why doesn't it provide unicode string because, the server side is not supposed to know (and has no way to know AFAIK) the charset of the client side. Should that charset be provided explicitely in the xmlrpc request to the server ? Sometimes I feel to have a dead brain when dealing with Unicode/charsets stuffs :o) Thanks for any enlightenments. --Gilles
