"Monkey patching" is the standard way of patching Python dynamically. Instead of changing the actual source code, you replace the method you want to patch with anotehr method, while running. It's neat/ugly/hackish/magical/vfsh, and hence deserves the name "monkey patch". :) Monkey patching is therefore a technique, not a type of distribution, and therefore there is no one way to install it. A monkey patch for Zope is usually a separate Product that you install as any other product, and that does the patching when being loaded.

Zope 2.6.2 / Fscounter 1.3.4

Hi , i'm running Zope 2.6.2 and i noticed FSCOUNTER (1.3.4) doesn not work on it . I can assume because a i got a Zope 2.6.1 working on the same machine to check it and it works on the 2.6.1 but not on 2.6.2 . The problem : It doesnt want to increase or to modify ( eg : if i try to give it a new value , it does not change anything , it stays as it is ... ) What kind of messages have i got to give you to see it together ? If you dont maintain it anymore , who is doing it ? Thanks a lot .

newbie in python script

Hello there I am trying to learn how to pass variables from a data entry to a python script for processing. I appreciate if you can explain my error below or point me to some form processing python scripts. Note: I had read the Examples that came together with zope. TQ in advance. Error Message ============ Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Invalid request The parameter, f_name, was omitted from the request. Make sure to specify all required parameters, and try the request again. Data Entry Form ============== <form action="addEntry_ps" method="post" enctype="multipart/form-data"> <table> <tr> <td>Your Name:</td> <td><input type='text" name="f_name" value="" /></td:> </tr> <tr> <td>Your Phone:</td> <td><input type='text" name="f_phone" value="" /></td:> </tr> <tr> <td>Your Comments:</td> <td><input type='text" name="f_comments" value="" /></td:> </tr> <tr> <td><input type="submit" name="submit" value="Cancel" /></td:> <td><input type="submit" name="submit" value="OK" /></td:> </tr> </table> </form> python script ========== # test code: addEntry_ps # parameter list: f_name, f_phone, f_comments # Import a standard function, and get the HTML request and response objects. from Products.PythonScripts.standard import html_quote request = container.REQUEST RESPONSE = request.RESPONSE # Return a string identifying this script. print "Hello",'"%s"' % (f_name ) return printed

Hello there If I have form that has a long list of form variables, is there a shorter way to pass though variables to python script for processing instead of individual listing at the parameter list? TQ in advance.

Re: posting data to a class method

I'm not sure what you mean by "global" in this context but you can set values from a form, no problem. Everything below is indented one level in from your class statement. ----- def __init__(self, ...) ... self._data = {} thank_you = DTMLFile('thanks', globals()) def form_proc(self, REQUEST): """ You must have a docstring here """ expected_fields = ['spam','ham','eggs'] for field in expected_fields: self._data[field] = REQUEST.form.get(field) self._p_changed = 0 return self.thank_you ------ Now all you need is to create a form that posts to object_name/form_proc and contains the right fields. This is a very simple example, but demonstrates several key concepts: 1. Basic validation. You don't *ever* want to just take whatever shows up... go looking for what you expect to find. 2. Tainted strings. Any user-supplied string that contains certain characters is marked as tainted. Using REQUEST.form.get marks it as untainted, while REQUEST.get leaves it as it is. 3. Docstrings. Zope will not publish a method unless it has a docstring and begins with an alphanumeric character (i.e., not an underscore). Unless a method conforms, it will not be possible for any user to request it directly. Unpublished methods can still be called by other objects. 4. Persistence. Zope maintains persistence on strings and numbers just fine, but has no way of knowing if a list or mapping has changed. The self._p_changed assignment marks your object as changed so that the persistence machinery can do its work. There are other ways of accomplishing this, but I wanted to make sure you didn't get much further along without at least hearing about it. 5. You can return dtml (or zpt) objects. Never use a product to create significant amounts of HTML... that's as bad a sin as using dtml for heavy logic. :-) Before you go much further, I'd *highly* recommend reading the Zope Developer Guide. Zope is a quirky beast and there are difficulties lying in wait. And if you're not already a Python wiz, I'd dig into that more deeply too... there's a lot of OO voodoo just below the surface here and if you're not already fluent in how that works, you'll miss a lot of what's possible. HTH... happy hacking! Dylan

RE: [Zope] sequence-number math

This doesn't really answer your question, so... Use Python! I too used to use DTML for task such as this. After investing a few hours into using python scripts, I find them much simpler, easier to debug, and (much) easier to reuse. For example sequence-number == sequence-number - 1 Thanks! How can I specify the file in the network? I would start by adding the scheme ("file:") to the url. This is essential. If that does not do it, you may need some windows-specific interface code (I seem to remember that localFS needs such code to access network hosts). I do not know any more than that, though. Re: [Zope] ZCatalog and multivalued field

Use Keyword index. Be careful that if the search field is emprty, that index return nothing (empty result) instead of all result. So I had to use a different name in the form and check if it is empty. If so, I copy it in the REQUEST with the right name. Hope there's a better solution :) ________________________________________________ Message sent using ALFANET Caorle WEBMAIL 1.0

ZCatalog and multivalued field
by Matthew Wilbert 14 Oct '03

I have an object class in a Product which usually has only one (string) value for particular attribute, but sometimes can have more, which I plan to store as a list of strings. There is no limit to how many of these there could be, although in my present application there would probably not be more than 10. This isn't a problem except that I would like to be able to search a ZCatalog for objects which have a particular value, whether it is a string or an string element of a list. The range of possible values is essentially infinite. I can see how I could use a TextIndex to do this, but I am trying to figure out if there are any other options. I'm building this in 2.7b2 if that makes any difference. Any other ideas? Thanks, Matt Wilbert
