Hello, I am trying to investigate how to use sessionIDs in the URL. I have already STFMLA'd and found a helpful link to the Zope Book section that discusses that topic. Unfortunately I have failed in my attempt to RTFZB, because it would appear that www.zope.org is dead, at least to me (as of around 0825 UTC monday) Are there any online mirrors of www.zope.org?

Configuring ZCatalog

Hi all, I am trying to produce a product with a python script which installs a configured ZCatalog. I can add the ZCatalog OK, but configuring is giving me problems. In my ZCatalog derived class __init__ I have tried to build the meta-data table: self.manage_addColumn('blah') - doesn't work and for properties: self.manage_addProperty('prop', 'value', 'string') self.manage_changeProperties(prop='value') these don't work either. I neither get error messages nor results. I am not clear whether I am dealing with the regular PropertyManager or with the zclass variety. For the manage_addColumn problem, maybe I can't do this in the __init__. If this is the case how do I set the meta-data automatically? Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. TIA

passing a zope <dtml-in...> list element to a sql method

I am attempting to access an element from a list and pass the element to a SQL method. The SQL method can see the list if I put it in the arguments list for the SQL method. However, I only want an element of the list. I have the following code (in my form submit action): ... ... <dtml-elif name="delete_button_delete_a_category_form"> <dtml-try> <dtml-in category prefix=MyElement> <dtml-var MyElement_item><br> <dtml-var a_trash> </dtml-in> ... ... MySQL: Argument: MyElement_item <<<< doesn't work INSERT INTO trash VALUES ('<dtml-var name="MyElement_item" sql_quote>') I can see the elements iterating with the <dtml-var MyElem....> statement. I can also see the sql statement executing during each loop if I use a static element for the SQL value. I can even plop the whole list into the SQL each iteration. CookieCrumbler has been added to the folder where my ACL_USERS is located, but the page still does not block anonymous access or allow anyone to login. What am I doing wrong? I could not find any support for cookiecrumbler. Python error: object does not support item or slice assignment

Hello, I want to write a login script which authentificates with a exUserFolder. But I get this error message: Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. OK, now i can connect, I can see al folders, bu when I up load the files every looks normal, progran says that it did transfer all files correctly but when I look in to the folder in zope is empty????? I have started the FTP server on port 8021 and when I try to conect to it shows the following error: 500 not a WinSock, error(winsock #87). What does it means, what should I do? Temporary Folder Content - Session Data

Sometimes I feel really bad writing to the list for help. It's when I have very simple, very basic questions. I'm sure that the answer is somewhere, but I've not been able to find it. I'm having a thought that each of my Zope projects that uses sessions should use individual session containers. I had some problems when one of our student developers and I both shared the same variable names. Quite hilarious. However, it seems to be conventional wisdom to store session data containers in temporary folders, as the default session data container is. This of course goes away on a restart. Is there anyway to get them to stick, as the default session data container does? Thanks a ton Edward

Zope Development as a beginner

Dear all, Recently I am seeking new opportunity for developing low cost web based solution on linux (I was classified as MS Man :P) in order to do lower end market. I was playing quite a bit different web development platform (ASP, ASP.NET + C#, and now Zope) and I found the following conclusion: Zope seems has a good concept but difficult to manage in terms of granularity of the project. I found myself get very much feeling on Zope is actually still very script based- which is quite similar to what ASP and PHP did! I can see some of the different advantages (e.g. the acquisition of objects) on the web publishing side- but when I am thinking about implementing an high cohesion based system such way of maintaining objects and methods seems give me very much hassle on trying to coordinate things together. I think I am comparing this with ASP.NET, which seems give a very good way to separate UI and logic layer, while still has very good cohesion on each function of a webpage as a frontend to use. Think about I have 20+ different controls on a same screen which requires pretty much back and forth database activities and session control in order to finish a transaction... seems Zope is not very good at this kind of development. However, even after the first sight I have to say I love python quite much- the language is convenient and clean, gives very good readability in terms of coding... so I really dream about if someone could come up with something more similar to ASP.NET instead of ZPT and DTML style... also to allow a more easy to develop platform (I really dont like to keep going back and forth on the ZMI to build up my projects, I want to do all things offline and then test things at once) ... is there something out already, or my thoughts is just so different with you guys that no one think its a good way to do web development?
