Internal representation of permissions acquisition
by nwingfield＠che-llp.com 17 Sep '03

17 Sep '03

When looking into Zope's internal representation of permissions and so forth, I found something strange... Suppose, for example, I have checked 'Anonymous' for 'View' on a particular object, a new attribute called ' _View_Permission' is created in my object. Here's the strange thing: If I leave 'Acquire' checked, _View_Permission = ['Anonymous'] If I uncheck 'Acquire', _View_Permission = ('Anonymous',) Please confirm or deny my hypothesis that the sequence data type assigned to a particular permission is the only way that Zope determines whether permissions should be acquired or not. It appears to me that the use of a list is Zope's internal representation of a checked 'Acquire Permissions' box, and the use of a tuple represents an unchecked 'Acquire Permissions' box.

Noob question on ZClass add script
by Jon Fox 17 Sep '03

17 Sep '03

I was trying to modify the standard add form and the NewZClass_add python script so that my newly instantiated ZClass would use the properties in my more verbose add form (standard only has object id). I have: # Add a new instance of the ZClass request = context.REQUEST instance = container.LinkFolderClass.createInObjectManager(request['id'], request) instance.manage_changeProperties(title=request['myFolder_title']) instance.manage_changeProperties(LinkFolderByline=request['myFolder_Byline']) instance.manage_changeProperties(LinkFolderText=request['myFolder_Text']) But this doesn't seem to change the properties of my new ZClass instance, but instead changes the title property of its container. Obviously this is the wrong way. What's the right way? -- Jon

Traversal Issue (brain fart)
by Richard Shebora 17 Sep '03

17 Sep '03

Hi all, I have a python script that reads a file in from LocalFS on the hard drive. I am parsing it and creating objects in a tree structure based on the parsed data. I have found various examples that have gotten me this far. I cannot seem to get a grip on how to cleanly move around the ZODB in Zope to create the Folders, Sub Folders, and then add properties to specific folders. At the last step in my program which adds a final set of folders and will need to add properties to them, I seem to completely loose the "Context" of the current folder. Any pointers or examples to clarify how to programmatically specify where my objects are created would be much appreciated. I am sure it is much simpler than I have made it. Thanks, Richard ======= PYTHON SCRIPT CODE SNIPPET =========== import string #01 READS SOURCE FILE INTO MEMORY file='IN_02.NEW' lfs=context.archive f=lfs[file] data=f.data line=string.replace(data,'\r','') lines=line.split('\n') #02 CREATES INBOUND FOLDER IF NEEDED. folderid='INbound' foldertitle='Inbound Documents' try: container.manage_addProduct['PropertyFolder'].manage_addPropertyFolder(folderid, foldertitle,'') print 'Inbox Folder '+folderid+' Created' except: print 'Inbox Folder '+folderid+' Already Exists' INbound=container.INbound # sets current folder #03 DECLARING VARIABLES JUST TO KEEP THEM. fields=0 # flag=0 # ISAindex=0 # TPid=0 # TPid=str(string.replace(fields[2],' ','')) OURsrid=0 # sr id sent to DATErec=0 # Date doc was received TIMErec=0 # Time doc was received DOCver=0 # EDI Document Version DOCtitle=0 # EDI Document Title TPdocs=0 # sets current folder DOCindex=0 # index of document received DOCtype=0 # doctype received DOCid=0 # sets current document id DOClocation=0 # sets current folder location SEGid=0 # sets current segment id SEGnum=0 # sets current segment number #04 BEGINS DATA LINE AND SEGMENT LOOPING for line in lines: fields=line.split('*') # Splits the fields on the '*' character #05 COPIES CURRENT ISA HEADER DETAILS TO VARIABLES if fields[0]=='ISA': flag=fields[15] # Production or Testing Flag (P or T) ISAindex=str(string.replace(fields[13],'0','')) # ISA index #06 COPIES CURRENT GS HEADER DETAILS TO VARIABLES # AND CREATES CURRENT TRADING PARTNER FOLDER IF NEEDED if fields[0]=='GS': TPid=str(fields[2]) # TPid=str(string.replace(fields[2],' ','')) OURsrid=str(fields[3]) # sr id sent to DATErec=str(fields[5]) # Date doc was received TIMErec=str(fields[6]) # Time doc was received DOCver=str(fields[8]) # EDI Document Version DOCtitle=str(fields[1]) # EDI Document Title try: INbound.manage_addProduct['PropertyFolder'].manage_addPropertyFolder(TPid,OURsrid,'') print TPid+' '+OURsrid+' Created' except: print TPid+' '+OURsrid+' Already Exists' #07 CREATES CURRENT TRADING PARTNER'S DOCUMENT FOLDER if fields[0]=='ST': TPdocs=INbound[TPid] # sets current folder DOCindex=str(string.replace(fields[2],'0','')) # index of document received DOCtype=str(fields[1]) # doctype received try: TPdocs.manage_addProduct['PropertyFolder'].manage_addPropertyFolder(DOCtype,DOCtitle,'') print DOCtype+' '+DOCtitle+' Created' except: print DOCtype+' '+DOCtitle+' Already Exists' #08 CREATES DOCUMENTS IN CURRENT TRADING PARTNER'S DOCUMENT FOLDER if fields[0]=='ST': DOCid=DOCtype+'-'+DOCindex DOClocation = TPdocs[DOCtype] # sets current folder try: DOClocation.manage_addProduct['PropertyFolder'].manage_addPropertyFolder(DOCid,DOCtitle,'') print DOCid+' '+DOCtitle+' Created' except: print DOCid+' '+DOCtitle+' Already Exists' 09 CREATE DOCUMENT SEGMENTS # This is the goofy section that fails. > > If there is one thing that users know, it is how to use the back button > > on the browser. Why bother having your own? > > Not all users I'm afraid ... <shrug> There is one good point that Tom mention before: > Do you know if the browser you tested has javascript enabled? Perhaps you can enable it on your browser, but not all the users have it enabled (the same as for the back button applies here). I think it's much easier if they use the back button. I think it's not that difficult, after few sesions with X brower, to realize that it has a back button :-). Unless off course if you were using a text browser, _that_ doesn't give you the possibility to go back. With lynx you can go back, but one never knows if there is another browser that doesn't support this. For the last case, you could create a link by using the "HTTP_REFERER" property of the REQUEST object, which tells you from which page the user came from. So that, you don't have to bother you with javascript. You have to bother you with ZPT, DTML, and/or python :-) Regards, Josef

i18n: how to use it in zpt's without CMF&Plone?
by Elena Schulz 17 Sep '03

17 Sep '03

Hi, how to use i18n (with Localizer) in zpt's without CMF&Plone? (State of the Art?) Is something like: <span i18n:translate="string:my_message" > You are here: </span> possible? (zope 2.6.2 or 2.7. without CMF&Plone) I found info about the use together with CMF/Plone but nothing without and I know how to use it this way: <span tal:replace="python: here.Localizer.i18n('my_message:')" tal:omit-tag=""> Sie sind hier: </span> But I would prefer the i18n:namespace-syntax and flexibility. May be patching zope is an option for that? -- Any hints would be great, Elena

unauthorized tal repeat by class method
by Bernd Dorn 17 Sep '03

17 Sep '03

hello all I'm currently migrating some of my dtml stuff of my python product to page templates and have the following odd issue. i pass an instance of a none-zopish class to a page template as keyword. in the page template i can access the instance, but cannot invoke a method on it which returns me a sequence of other classes here the snipped of my zpt file: <div tal:repeat="activity python:options['wf_activity'].getActions()"> traceback snippet: * Module Products.PageTemplates.ZRPythonExpr, line 48, in __call__ __traceback_info__: options['wf_activity'].getActions() * Module Python expression "options['wf_activity'].getActions()", line 1, in <expression> Unauthorized: You are not allowed to access 'getActions' in this context (Also, an error occurred while attempting to render the standard error message.) end: in dtml this works without problem: dtml snippet: <dtml-with wf_activity> <dtml-in getActions> ... ... </dtml-in> </dtml-with> my setup: Zope Version (Zope 2.7.0-a1, python 2.2.3, win32) Python Version 2.2.3 (#42, May 30 2003, 18:12:08) [MSC 32 bit (Intel)] System Platform win32 end: tia, bernd

RESPONSE.write - Still not working
by Jonathan Hobbs 17 Sep '03

17 Sep '03

Thanks to those who responded with some ideas regarding my RESPONSE.write problem - but it's still not working! Based on the responses I now have a dtml method containing (note: I have tried it with and without the Transfer-Encoding header): <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Transfer-Encoding', 'chunked')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setHeader('Content-Type', 'text/plain')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.write('Starting\n')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.flush()"> <dtml-call "wait(5)"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.write('Done\n')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.flush()"> The 'wait' routine is still a simple external method: import time def wait(self, secs): time.sleep(secs) return What I expected to see was the word 'Started' displayed in my browser, followed by a 5 second delay, and then see the word 'Done' displayed. What I get is a 5 second delay and then both 'Started' and 'Done" appear at the same time. FYI: I am running zope 2.6.1, python 2.1.3, RedHat linux 2.4.20, Apache 1.3.26 Any other ideas would be great! Thanks again, Jonathan

[ Michael Long] > In Firebird there is something called a JavaScript Console. This is > telling me that history has no properties. So it looks like > the problem > is with the Firebird and/or my configuration of the browser. > This seems to be a bug in Firebird. I tested version 0.6.1 on Windows. I found that if I double-clicked on my test file, there was a history object and it had the right methods. But if I loaded some other page first, then loaded the test file, there was no history object. However, Mozilla 1.2.1 worked correctly. I do not have a more recent version of Moz on this system to try, so it might be a bug in Moz rather than Firebird per se. BTW, I think the OP wants to use back(), not go(). Why don't you file a bug report? Here is the code I used for testing. It opens another browser window and lists all the methods and properties of the history object - <html> <head> <title>History Test</title> <script type='text/javascript'> function test() { var obj = history var str = '' for (var o in obj) { str += o + '<br>' } var win = window.open('','_show') win.document.write(str) win.document.close() win.focus() } </script> </head> <body> <button onclick='test()'>Back</button> </body> </html> Results in the popup window - that is, when it worked at all - length current previous next back forward item go You can see it has all the right properties and methods. Cheers, Tom P

[Gareth Bowker] > the only thing that springs to mind is that most > javascript snippets have javascript: in front of them e.g. > onClick="javascript:history.go(-1);return true;" . You do not use the "javascript:" for standard events, like onClick. You would use it in the value of an href - e.g. <a href='javascript:doSomethingSpecial(this)'> Cheers, Tom P
