javascript / python /populate fields from db
by Exteam 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

Hi all, This list is really wonderful, as I can solve most of my issues so fast, that I am amazed. Well I need more help... My requirement is to populate three fields (coming from formulator) in a ZPT file. The first field has a drop down and should get data from db using pyhton. The next 2 fields should populate themselves with the corresponding columns from the database. It seems to me that javascript is the only choice? Am I correct in this assumption? If yes, are there any options on how to use it in this scenario? Does python (server side) "talk" directly to javascript(client side)? Maybe python generates the javascript on the fly? Are you aware of any examples using this approach on the web? Any comments would be helpful... Zope 2.7.0 - WIN32
by subspace 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

Hi, Zope 2.7.0 does not work with my win98. When I tried to start the ZServer, I got several memory-errors, no RAM or DISC memory, but environment-memory, don't know what it means. A friend, who uses 98ME had the same problem. Is this an error only with win98 or are there parameters to patch in the instance.bat file? -- Best regards Werner mailto:info@subspace-media.de

RE: [Zope] stuck with Zope version lock !!!
by Smith, Neil (Worcester) 23 Jul '03

I've had that problem too. When you go back in to the version and try to save it I bet it now says no changes to commit. It's very very annoying. You will have to go be working in the version and make dummy changes to all of the unsaved objects so that the version thinks it has to save them again. Then try committing the version again. Keep doing this until all your changes are saved. Neil -----Original Message----- From: Gilles Lenfant [mailto:gilles@pilotsystems.net] Sent: 22 July 2003 15:34 To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] stuck with Zope version lock !!! Hi, I'm stuck committing work I made using a "version" object on a production site. I created a "version" object at the root of a Folder (site) and started creating new objects and changing others. After a satisfying result (working in context of that version), I saved the work done with that version. Strange results : * Modified objects still are locked on that version, and when leaving the version context, the old content replaced the modified one. * New objects created in the context of the version have disappeared when leaving the version (after saving changes !!). Those objects appear again when I join the version. As a result, the (public) site is buggy as all changes have not been committed. And I must "enter" that version as manager to see the (supposed to be commited) changes. Heeelp please (emergency) Many thanks in advance. Re: [Zope] How does GroupUserFolder work ?

Hi, GroupUserFolder is a generic groups management for Zope. It does provide groups management inside the ZMI but doesn't provide any kind of delegation or such. What you seem to want is a content-management platform. You may want to have a look at Plone which is currently integrating strongly GroupUserFolder to implement some of the features you are looking for. For more information about GRUF, see http://ingeniweb.sf.net/Products/GroupUserFolder. How does GroupUserFolder work ?
by Gelin Patrick 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

Hi, I would like to understand what exactly GroupUserFolder is. What I want to do is that each group is independent, with its own private forum, documents, members, calendar, etc. I would like a user have the ability to belong one or more groups. I would like some users have the ability to register others inside groups. Finally, I would like a user log in and after he has the ability to choose a group to work with. (In fact I would like something like groove) Is GroupUSerFolder my solution? Thanks. Re: [Zope] Zope hangs with no visible reason

One small gotcha: be careful you don't leave any text highlighted in the DOS box where Zope is running (if it's running in a visible DOS box), as that suspend application execution (and so hangs Zope) until you hit return in that DOS box... So, Windows is a server application? riiiiight ;-) Chris

XDB login dialog
by Eric Just 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

Hi, I am a casual zope user and a big fan. I am having a problem with a recently installed zope 2.61. Often, when I point to port 8080 in my browser (to get to zope) I get a login dialog labeled xdb. I do not ever remember setting up anything which would require a password and my zope manager password and login do not seem to work. Even weirder is that sometimes this does not pop up and I can use zope no problem. I am running an apache server but am connecting to zope through the zope web server (no apache with zope). Anyone heard of/know of this problem? Thanks! Eric

PyXML and SOAPpy installation for Zope
by Charlie Jones 23 Jul '03

I am trying to create some External Methods in Zope to access some simple web services. I have both these packages working under the default Python installation on my server, but I don't have a clue on how to get them to install in the python setup for Zope. I'm not even sure if they will work under Zope, so I'm seeking some advice. The last thing I want to do is screw up my Zope installation. If anyone can offer some help that would be great. Here's my current config info.... charlie ------------------------- Zope Version (Zope 2.6.1 (binary release, python 2.1, linux2-x86), python 2.1.3, linux2) Python Version 2.1.3 (#1, Sep 19 2002, 13:15:46) [GCC egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)] System Platform linux2 SOFTWARE_HOME /usr/local/Zope-2.6.1-linux2-x86/lib/python ZOPE_HOME /usr/local/Zope-2.6.1-linux2-x86 INSTANCE_HOME /usr/local/Zope-2.6.1-linux2-x86 CLIENT_HOME /usr/local/Zope-2.6.1-linux2-x86/var

Re: [Zope] How to trigger the default browser from Zope?
by Bobb 23 Jul '03

Ausum, Please keep it on the list. That was just a hunch, based on too much damn M$ in my bloodstream, I guess I was just thinking like a "Redmondian".:) I was having problems with an NT4 machine just today actually, I did see (and the bulb went off again) that in NT4 that under services, there's the "Interact with the desktop" check box. under everything > w2k, it's under logon (2nd tab under service properties ) maybe checking / enabling that will help. I _wish_ I knew more about win32service, but unfortunately I don't. I guess my advice would be 1) read the source and 2) google is your friend.
