Zope and SQL
by Alexis Roda 24 Jul '03

Hi, I need to develop some tools related to RDBMS (form generation, reports and so on) and I would know where can I find information about zope relational database interface (aqueduct?), internals and so on. Re: upgrading from Zope2.5 to Zope2.6 - ZClasses broken?
by Anthony Baxter 24 Jul '03

24 Jul '03

I also tried exporting one of the broken ZClass products from a 2.5 Zope and importing it into 2.6. I get the following traceback: For the URL http://devhost1:8180/Control_Panel/Products/manage_importObject No error message. Error type: ImportError Error value: No module named iclass <p>Traceback (innermost last): <ul> <li> Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 98, in publish</li> <li> Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 88, in mapply</li> <li> Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 39, in call_object</li> <li> Module OFS.ObjectManager, line 535, in manage_importObject</li> <li> Module OFS.ObjectManager, line 551, in _importObjectFromFile</li> <li> Module ZODB.ExportImport, line 79, in importFile</li> <li> Module ZODB.Transaction, line 236, in commit</li> <li> Module ZODB.Transaction, line 351, in _commit_objects</li> <li> Module ZODB.Connection, line 302, in commit</li> <li> Module ZODB.ExportImport, line 147, in _importDuringCommit</li> </ul>ImportError: No module named iclass </p> Looking in an XML export of one of the broken products, the offending line is <global id="1067586.19" name="Interface" module="Interface.iclass"/> There's a lib/python/Interface/iclass.py in 2.5, but it's missing in my 2.6 checkout... Is some module aliasing needed here? I added a simple lib/python/Interface/iclass.py that just contained from _Interface import Interface, but attempts to import now fail with No error message. Error type: UnpicklingError Error value: <Interface Interface._Interface.Interface at 53cc18> is not safe for unpickling So that's not a simple workaround. Dammit. (I can make a copy of one of the broken ZClass-based products available if someone wants to have a look at making this work... let me know...) Anthony

My company is planning to rewrite our static website using Zope. I am planning to use Page Templates to accomplish this. Our static website used frame a lot. Can anybody give me examples how to use frame in page templates? Thanks. Mico Siahaan -------------------------- mico(a)intermatik.co.id Mobile ph. 08179997828

stressed wovels
by Christian Pizzuto 24 Jul '03

24 Jul '03

I have this problem. I made a SQL method for storing strings into an Interbase field. If I insert a string containing a stressed wovels (like " è ") directly into the DB it works, but if I use my SQL method it gives me this error: Error, Products.gvibDA.gvib.gvibExceptions.DataError: - arithmetic exception, numeric overflow, or string truncation -- Cannot transliterate character between character sets What is the matter? Is it a GV Interbase adapter's bug?

strange unicode behaviour
by Giuseppe Bonelli 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

I have spent the last 30 minutes going crazy with this: in dtml: <html> <head> <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8"> </head> <dtml-call "getText()")> </html> in python: def getText(): s=u'a string with some accented chars' s=s.encode('utf-8') return s the above works fine, but return s.lower() does not !!! (the accented chars are badly rendered in the browser). Can someone, please, explain this to me?? I am on zope 2.6.1 (installed from binaries under win), >From the python console everithing is OK, so there should be something with Zope. I have utf-8 as sys.defaultencoding and I do not load any locale when starting Zope. Thanks for any help, --peppo

How to publish to a small group of users?
by Gelin Patrick 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

Hi, I'm looking for a way to publish a CMF topic object to a small group of users. What I mean by a group of user is only some members of my Plone Site. My goal is to create privates workgroups, where members of a workgroup share common components (forum, files, events, ...). Thanks for your help. Formulator - pre-selecting a line in a multiline field - still unsolved.
by David Washburn 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

I am using a multiline Formulator widget and I want to preset the line in a list using a value from the record in the database which I read in my DTML document, and which is going to be updated. I read the record and I can display all the "fixed" fields with no problems. I am still not clear on how to specify the default value, which is gotten from the database record, when I display the form using Formulator. I have successfully created a Python/Script & ZSQL Method (it is in the TALES Item field) to read a code table from a MySQL database and display it in the Formulator form when it is rendered. This list has two values per line, the text displayed and the numeric code that is to be returned when the user make a choice from the list. Dieter made a suggestion that I place the value of the data item that I want to use to point to the correct line in the multiline widget, in a hidden field so that it will be accessible when Formulator renders the field. The document that displays the Formulator widgets is a DTML document that I coded to display the data fields using calls to the Formulator API. The lines look like this: ..... <tr> <td> <input type="HIDDEN" name="company_contact_id_selected:int" value="<dtml-var company_contact_id null="">"> <dtml-var "profile_form.company_contact_id.get_value('title')"></td> <td><dtml-var "profile_form.company_contact_id.render(_['company_contact_id'])"></td> </tr> ..... Which is rendered like this: <tr> <td> <input type="HIDDEN" name="company_contact_id_selected:int" value="6"> ADVANCE Contact ID</td> <td><select size="1" name="field_company_contact_id" ><option value="0" >Unknown </option> <option value="22" >Sam (from: UK)</option> <option value="26" >Bill (from: VN)</option> <option value="6" >Bruce (from: SG)</option> <option value="24" >Seth (from: US)</option> </select> </td> </tr> What I want to be able to do is have the line that displays "Bruce (from: SG)" selected when the form is displayed since he is ID # 6. It should have looked like this: <option value="6" selected>Bruce (from: SG)</option> The question is, what is the syntax I need to use in the Formulator/TALES management screen for a multiline widget to reference the data in the hidden field called "company_contact_id_selected". I think I need to place a reference to the variable "company_contact_id_selected" in the TALES default field, but I can't seem to find the correct syntax to reference it. Does anyone have any ideas? Re: [Zope] How does GroupUserFolder work ?
by Gelin Patrick 23 Jul '03

Ok but I don't understand the documentation of ingeniweb. I've installed a GroupUserFolder in my Plone site. There is two user's folder, one for users and one for groups. I create some users and some groups, and then? What can I do with group? I didn't find how to add users into groups... Why to add users into groups???? What is the goal? multiple Zope connections to the same database within different branches
by Julian Clark 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

Hi list. I'm just curious, if you've got two connections to the same database in 2 different branches at the same level, is it better to put those 2 connections in the 'trunk' of those two branches. Is there performance reasons to do so/ not to do so? for example ZopeRoot ---branch1 --- dbconn billybob ---branch2 --- dbconn billybob as compared to ZopeRoot ---dbconn billybob ---branch1 ---branch2 Say also, if branch1 experiences much more traffic than branch2 (which is the case in my installation), is this much of a consideration? Are there any other issues here which I would need to be aware of? Cheers, Julian

linking zope/CMF objects to sql databases?
by Kelley, Sean 23 Jul '03

23 Jul '03

I need a content management system which acts as an operation and maintenance manual for assets. I need to be able to pull related data from a SQL database and update the SQL database by linking to some plone/zope object like folder id or possibly asset number as a value in the property of plone/zope objects. For example, if I have a record in the sql database, I want to allow users to add documentation, images, and other things to the plone folder and have it relate to the sql data for that asset ID. How might this be done? Is there an existing product? Is there a better way to relate this data? Anybody tried this? thanks, Sean
