Version objects and created object bug

Version objects seem to have some bugs related to objects created inside the version (newly created objects, not edited objects). As a simple example: 1) Create a folder, "test". 2) Create a version object in the folder. 3) Join/open the version. 4) Create two DTML documents in the root of the site, "test_aq". Note that it is controlled by the version (see the red star in the ZMI). Why? Shouldn't version objects apply only to their current folder and things under them, or are they really just named change sets for the entire Zope tree? Version objects ignore acquisition? 5) Create two DTML documents in "test", "unchanged" and "changed". 6) Make a simple edit to "changed" and save it. 7) Commit/save the version (you can quit the version first or not). 8) Quit the version if you haven't already. 9) View the "test" folder. Note that "changed" and "unchanged" are not visible outside of the version. (They should be!) 10) Join the version and note that "changed" and "unchanged" are still flagged as controlled by the version. What gives? In trying to dig thru this I ran into FileStorage:versionEmpty() (its in the call tree under the DTML that decides if there are things to commit in a version). I've been beating on that code for a few hours now and just don't grok it. Just what is the following condition testing for? if index[oid]==srcpos: return 0 Line 1384 for Zope 2.6.1. Or more simply, I don't understand what the following leading comment actually means: # When committing or aborting, we search backward through the linked # list until we find a record for an object that does not have a # current record in the version. If we find a record for which the # non-version pointer is the same as the previous pointer, then we # forget that the corresponding object had a current record in the # version. This strategy allows us to avoid searching backward # through previously committed or aborted version records. That comment would seem to suggest that the above conditional should be "!="? Using tal and no dmtl.

We are trying to use only TAL in our Zope documents. It's been frustrating in some ways. Is there a way in TAL to simply run a python function? We've been using the omit-tag to do this, but I find this cludgy. <div tal:omit-tag="python:foo()"></div> Are other people just using dmtl for this sort of thing. Is there a way to do it in TAL that isn't cludgy? John -

A few newbie questions

Okay, just getting started, so I have some pretty basic questions that have probably been answered plenty of times. 1) Where can I search the list archive ? 2) Where are the standard_html_header and standard_html_footer files ? I can't seem to find them under the root hierarchy. 3) I tried to play with the lesson8 in Elvis tutorial after reading chapter 3 of the Zope book where it references "class Image" in appendix B. So I changed the code like the AppB example: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title></h2> <dtml-in expr="photoArchive.objectValues()"> <p> <dtml-var ImageObject> <P><dtml-var title> (<dtml-var getSize> bytes)</p> </dtml-in> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> But I get a Error Type: KeyError; Error Value: ImageObject when I try to view the results. What's missing ?!? 4) Is there a way to read the EXIF data off jpeg files directly from Zope ? Or the information data off png files ? Problems with CookieCrumbler and ExternalEditor

Hi, I seem to have a problem with CookieCrumbler and ExternalEditor. I installed both and they work. I installed a cookiecumbler into the Rootfolder, now I see the login_form of my Website whenever I access the /manage URL. While that's not a problem in the first place, it makes using ExternalEditor impossible, as the DAVLock is not done. If I remove the cookieauthentication Object, Logout and Login using HTTP-Auth I can use ExternalEditor again. If I then recreate the cookie_authentication and logout I'm not really logged out (free access to /manage). But restarting the Browser helps and the I log in using the websites login_form and clicking on a ExternalEdit Link I get a 401 Unauthorized Access Message from the ExternalEditor. Is there a possibility to use both together? Andreas -- You have many friends and very few living enemies.

help with omit-tag and object existence

I have the following code which I want to behave in the following way: If the folder contains an object named "bio_text", create an <a>, otherwise, simply print the text. I have tried various templates using the tal:omit-tag operator with no success (meaning that I have not found the right clause to omit-tag to cause it to not print the tag when the object doesn't exist. Help is appreciated. Hello everybody, I have the following problem: I have created a website which is generally accessible to everybody without the need to login(user = anonymous). Some areas of the site are reserved only to users who have an account in the acl users folders. When a user tries to access the restricted areas but does not have the right to or pushes the cancel button, then he gets the following error message: Site Error An error was encountered while publishing this resource. Unauthorized You are not authorized to access this resource. Large virtual hosting solution

Hello all, I'm in the process of developing a massive state-wide solution using Zope. I have almost 70 organizations with the same Web application needs, and was thinking about using one Zope machine to do virtual hosting to each of the individual accounts. Each account would be an instance of a custom product I'm working on (and will release the source once I'm done if anyone is interested), which will have to be customized to each group. All instances would have their own subdomains, and could map to a top level domain if they choose. Much of the back-end will rely on MySQL, with a database for each instance. Is it possible to develop a product like this in such a way that I can globally update the product code and have each instance get those changes? I've never attempted anything of this scale before...I imagine I'd need to produce a Web farm of ZEO clusters and sit it behind Squid or Pound as well. Any suggestions? Anyone know of a Zope hosting solution that could do something like this (granted, on a very tight budget). Thanks!!
