Jamie, Thanks for the response. I think you misunderstood my question. I'm not looking to implement a cache manager. What I'm looking to do is, not store the page for a few minutes/hours, but months. Or longer. I also want external apps to have access to the rendered page. I have to generate weekly financial reports. The data for each report is from NUMEROUS sources. So the query, formatting etc. are complex and time consuming. The weekly report gets updated over the duration of the month, but at the end of the month the report is frozen. So once the report is published, it will almost NEVER be changed. We may publish corrections to the report, but these will be labelled as corrections, and will not replace the originally published document. I'd rather not have to re-create the report every time it's viewed. I'd prefer to save the HTML representation of the report as a BLOB in a database (and later extend this to PDFs of the same). And that's what I'm hoping to do - assign the results of a page rendered by Zope, i.e., all of the HTML generated, to a binary column in a DB. OT: I believe Berkeley DB is extremely fast for this sort of indexing/retrieval. Anyone have any experience? Hope that's clearer. Thanks again. Hmmm, well generally this is what CacheManagers do, but storing the results in a database would be a new one (to date I've seen managers that use memory, the filesystem, and just add HTTP headers to the response). While its entirely likely you could achieve what you want using a memory cache, if the data is sufficiently large it may be not be a good idea, and its certainly not persistent accross zope-restarts. Import doesn't find module

I am attempting to import a class for use and Zope complains 'no module named extensions.DISTINFO'. My Product structure is: Products - Resources -FGDC -BIO -scripts -script1.py -dtml -www -extensions -DISTINFO.py which contains a class of the same name In script1.py, I have an import statement like this: from Products.Resources.extensions.DISTINFO import DISTINFO Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong here?? Can we execute an external method from outside of Zope

Hi all, I would like to know if we can execute an external method from outside of Zope. So let's say that I have a script "install.py" and an external method "installer" that refers to it. Can I execute the external method "installer" in a python script from outside of zope ? Can I execute the "install.py" script from outside of Zope but manage to run it as it was under the same context of the external method? I actually want to create a script to install a new product and would like the user NOT to create an external method in order to do this. Thanx for your suggestions, -- Jean Baltus

Yes, big upload/download with zserver is very bad, and https is not a good idea too ... zope and COM

Hello, In order to manage m$ office documents from Zope (2.5.1 win32) I've downloaded the win32all-151 installer (for python 2.1) so I can use COM from Zope. My problem is that I'm unable to install it since I have no python interpreter installed (apart from zope's python), the package installer complains about "python 2.1 does not appear to be installed on this computer.". * someone has managed to install this package into zope? * if not: it's safe to download/install python 2.1, install win32all-151 and finally copy the package into the zope tree? * if not: can I import the win32com package from an script running under zope control if it is installed outside of the zope tree (in a "standard place")? Pluggable Brains - Huh?

Well, I know they have a cool name. But thats about it. I have a problem that involves returning some data from a zCatalog, and some data from a Postgres database. Both items are treated as equivalent and should be displayed alphabetically side by side. I've got a marvelously kludgerific solution that involves copying the search results from the zCatalog into a list, which I can then insert my SQL based results in and sort as I see fit. I don't know if there is a better way, but I'd like to know more about Pluggable Brains so I can determine if there is. A search of Zope.org, and the list archives, comes up empty. Anyone with tips or resources? Edward
