setting file permissions
by Matt Ficken 15 May '03

My product creates some files. How can my product set permission on it? Particularly, how can my product give "Anonymous", "Manager", "Owner", and "Authenticated" the permission "Change Images and Files"? -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup

ODBC + Linux (part II)
by ratem＠censanet.com.br 15 May '03

15 May '03

Hi, thanks for all previous hints. I´ve installed ZDataQueryKit, it is very interesting. Now I have another problem. I´ve created an ODBC Data Source on W2K, pointing to my specific SQLServer DB. I know SQL runs on port 1433. The problem is that when I try to create a reference to a table on ZVisualODBC or ZClientODBC, I get an empty error message. I´ve got both "connection refused" and "server not found" before - it was a question of adjusting the correct DNS server name and SQLServer port - so the question is another... Do you guys have any idea/hint? What is missing? Anything related to Metadata/XML or conection problems? Sorry but it´s been a long time since I played with proprietary platforms... Thanks in advance, Rogerio ------------------------------------------------- E-mail enviado pelo Webmail CensaNET http://www.censanet.com.br/webmail

dtml-calendar date formatting
by jwsacksteder＠ramprecision.com 15 May '03

15 May '03

Is there an easy way to massage the output of date.Date() from dtml-calendar into a format that is more directly usable in sql queries? I would like to get dates out like 2003-05-12 rather than 05//12/03. I was hoping for something like date.Date(yyyy-mm-dd), but no such thing is apparently supported.

More than one IP?
by michael stoeckel 15 May '03

15 May '03

Hello, I need to have my Zope listening on two different network interfaces i.e. two different IP addresses, is this possible? I am already using the IP_ADDRESS entry in the z2.py file, but as far as i understood i can only specify one IP there. Because the Server is a shared server i cannot have Zope listening on all the IP addresses. so i have to specify two, any ideas? Thanks, Michael -- Mit freundlichen Grüssen michael stoeckel mailto:michael.stoeckel@web.de

BTreeFolder2 issues
by vineeth 15 May '03

15 May '03

hi, i am using BTreeFolder to store around 10000 objects. the problem is when an object is deleted, its id still remains in the ZMI listing of the ids, and when that id is tried to be accessed, i get a Resource Not Found error. I am able to add another object with the same id, and in this case both ids exist. is this a known issue ? or can anyone suggest some way to deal with this ? this is a production server and for obvious reasons, we are not able to replicate the error regards vineeth __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Filter management screens based on user role
by Jamie 15 May '03

15 May '03

Is there any way to make it so that a certain user role can only see one or two types of objects when they view the management screens? For example, I have a user role called "contentProvider" and when he goes to the management screens I want him to see a slightly different manage page that I design. --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. thread-safe xml request client
by Scott Burton 15 May '03

15 May '03

I am writing a product in Zope 2.6 that sends xml requests to servers over SSL. There are a few questions I have about the whole thread-safe issue after reading http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/ThreadSafety as well as some other issues that are coming up. I realized a few parts of my product are mutable so I wrapped those methods in a thread as such: lock = Lock() class HTTPSRequester(SimpleItemWithProperties, Thread): def __init__(self): Thread.__init__(self) "mutable method" def run(self): lock.acquire() self.fetch() lock.release() where fetch() is the method with mutable data. Here are my questions regarding this setup... 1. Is this product actually considered thread-safe now? 2. The fetch method makes a https socket connection using httplib. The first time it runs when zope is restarted it takes a VERY long time to make the socket connection(like 20 -30 seconds) and usually returns an empty string response from the server. The processor utilization goes up to 100% the entire time. However, the second request takes about 1-2 seconds and returns the correct info. I have no idea why it does this and would really like to know why. 3. Is there any way I can create a thread or process that has all of the modules I use opened and ready to use. I figure this might eliminate some overhead on loading all of the modules per execution. 4. I have also noticed that when a user calls this product, Zope will stop responding until the response is returned. I would like to have the product be able to handle multiple simultaneous requests at once. If anyone has dealt with a similar product I would very much appreciate your input. Thanks, Scott

structured text and css
by Dennis Allison 15 May '03

15 May '03

We use structured text in a number of places where we'd like a bit more control over fonts, layout, and spacing than the defaults provide. And we don't want to clutter up the content with markup (for example <div>..</div> with embedded CSS styling.) It occurred to me that a simple solution would be to give a structured text object to have a 'css' property which give the URL of a css style sheet with pre-defined classes for the structured text, and modify the rendering product to reference the stylesheet and associated classes if it is present. A quick google didn't turn up anything in the archives that seemed relevant. Has anyone done anything like this?

Getting server hostname
by Matt Ficken 15 May '03

15 May '03

When Zope starts up, it displays on the console, the current hostname and port its running at. How can my Product get access to the hostname and port (as Zope knows what those are)? -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup

Zope with Apache in Win2k
by Emmanouil Magkos 15 May '03

15 May '03

I just installed the Zope program on a win2k server, with Apache Web server. I used PCGI for passing authentication information to Zope, via Apache. However, Zope will not accept my admin username and password. Here are the steps I have followed: 1) Zope install as a win2k Service 2) In Apache conf file, ScriptAlias the Zope directory (where zope.cgi is). 3) Rename Zope.cgi to Zope.pcgi (Assigning read-execute permissions) 4) gp to the Registry, and transform: \Services\Zope\parameters\start "D:\..\python.exe" "D:\...\zope\z2.py" -S into "D:\..\python.exe" "D:\...\zope\z2.py" -S -p "D:\...\zope\zope.pcgi" After restarting my system, pointed my browser to http://localhost/zope/zope.pcgi/manage , asked me for username and paswd, and REFUSED to let me in. Have I missed something here???? Any help would be appreciated.. Manos
