Europython 2003 - have you marked it into your calendar?
by Heimo Laukkanen 27 Apr '03

27 Apr '03

Hi ya all, we're currently making the program for Zope-track and it is looking very cool also for the Zope track. At the moment we have a couple of interesting talks about Zope 3, which should be very very interesting for all of us who have not had time to follow up constantly what happens on Zope 3. Naturally we will have also presentations about most popular Zope CMS-systems and plan also to organize a roundtable talk, where you have possibility to see and hear about most of the project at once. And of course there are other interesting talks about Zope projects, extreme programming - and other cool things. So be sure to mark Europython to your calendar ( June 25-27, 2003 ) and book your flights in advance! Deadline for submitting talks has also been extended, so if you have done something that you would like to show to your peers - please drop me a line by email or write a proposal straight into the database at europython.org. Talk to your boss and be sure that you can bring your colleagues too - it will be fun and I hope to see most of you there. -huima

Meaning of sequence-index-{variable}
by Luciano Ramalho 27 Apr '03

27 Apr '03

I'm writing a Zope Quick Reference, and am stuck trying to figure out the meaning and use of this variable, one of the many available inside a dtml-in loop. All editions of the Zope Book (and every other Zope book I know about) pretty much say the same thing: sequence-index-{variable}: The index of a variable of the current item. You are supposed to replace {variable} with some attribute of your current item. I've tried that with no success (although I've managed to test every other documented sequence-* variable). You can check the official docs here (but they haven't helped me): http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/ AppendixA.stx Reading the source seemed non-trivial in this case, so I decided to ask after a while (the only relevant module in Zope 2.6.1 seems to be DocumentTemplate/DT_InSV.py). TIA for any help! -- Luciano

upgrades and stability
by Dennis Allison 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

We've been using Zope 2.51 on RH 7.3. It's been exceptionally stable and easily handles our workload. We are now about to refactor the system, add new features, add multiple hardware servers, some with ZEO front-ends, go to an multiple instance organization, to scale up for another order of magnitude or two of users. We are having to rethink system security (e.g., SSL), backup strategies, and add fail-soft support. If we are going to migrate to another Zope release, now would be a good time. What advice would you give. Zope 2.6.1 would be the obvious choice although if Zope 2.7.X will be released soon it might be another possibility. Any advice? hidden gotchas? release schedule intelligence? Thanks.

Re: [Zope-dev] [off topic] archives cause spam.

Plus, I've yet to see an email address munging scheme >that also meant real users could get the email addresses of someone from >the archive. > > A recent study suggested that replacing the characters of the address with HTML entities worked pretty well. Don't know how long that'll work (it's not hard to counter), but it's a step ahead for now. --jcc

Traversing LocalFS
by tracey.monroe＠philips.com 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

Hopefully someone can help me out on this .... Premise: Create a method of displaying files (in browser with URL linking) from a Local File System in Zope that can be traversed. I have already installed the LocalFS product and it seems to work fine, as least for the first level of file/folders. But I need to be able to traverse down an infinite (well a lot) number of directories so that users can select a specific file. Like I said the first level is easy since I am in the "Zope Environment", but I can not figure out how to keep traversing the path (URL Link) once I have moved out of the Zope system and into the LocalFS. I have been unable to add a DTML file in the LocalFS to load the next level, or at least I can't figure out how. -------------------------------------------------------- <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-in "Files.fileIds()"> <a href="&dtml-absolute_url;/Files/<dtml-var sequence-item>"><dtml-var sequence-item></a><br> </dtml-in> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ------------------------------------------------------- ROOT . . - index_html (dtml method) . . - Files (LocalFS Link) . . . . - 2001_Information (Folder in LocalFS) . . . . . . - file1 . . . . . . - file2 . . . . - 2002_Information (Folder in LocalFS) . . . . - etc. I am trying to build a traversable webpage with a URL links to file1 and file2 dynamically using the LocalFS and starting from Zope. I have also tried the dtml-tree object (which does traverse the entire paths) but it is too slow in building the pages. Given time I think I could figure out something and make it work, but I need to get this working in a hurry to help justify using Zope, and this is my last roadblock. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Win 2000 system running ZOPE 2.6.1 LocalFS 1-0-0 mounting a shared nt filesystem Sorry if this is old stuff. I am fairly new to Zope. Thanks Tracey Monroe

reStructuredText installation
by Mark Gibson 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

I installed the backport for Zope 2.6. Untarring the installation rewrites Products/PythonScripts/standard.py to import restructured_text from DocumentTemplate.DT_Var. Dt_Var doesn't have restructured_text. This causes problems when tyring to import anything from PythonScripts/standard in a python script. Is there something missing from the installation? Or is there something I'm missing? It would be nice to be able to use a restructured_text format in python scripts, what's a good way to do this? I've been looking at the ReStructuredText Document which works well. I'd like to be able to use html in a ReStructuredText Document. Is there a way to have the ReStructuredText Document leave html as is, instead of quoting it? Thanks, Mark
