Restrict acquisition?
by Kirk Strauser 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

I have a problem with my current setup. I'm hosting several Zope-based virtual domains through Apache. They are all stored as folders in the top-level Zope folder: Root Folder: Domain1.com Domain2.com Domain3.com This works exactly as I would hope; visitors to http://www.domain1.com/ see the contents of the Domain1.com folder, and so on. However, I realized yesterday that anyone visiting http://www.domain1.com/Domain2.com/ can see the contents of the Domain2.com folder. Now, once I calmed down and thought about it, it made perfect sense, and Zope is doing exactly what it's being asked to do. However, logical or not, this is not appropriate for my needs. In a nutshell, I want to restrict acquisition so that it doesn't recurse back down once it reaches the root folder. I'm getting pretty familiar with developing in Zope, but I don't want to hack together some home-brewed solution when something pre-built probably already exists. -- Kirk Strauser

make a product catalogware
by Patel, Tejash 25 Apr '03

Hello all, I have a product, I want to make it catalog aware, so I can auto catalog the product. Can someone tell me how? Currently I have tried to follow examples in the Zope Bible book. That worked for me, but I am having issues with create date and modification date for the product. Thanks TP

When you run the module from the command prompt, in the Extensions directory, you are probably using your ordinary Python installation, and the Extensions directory will be on the Python path because it is the cwd when you launched Python. When you run from Zope, you use Zope's Python interpreter, which uses a different Python path, and Extensions may not be on it. When I run external methods, I always put all the real code in a package somewhere else, outside of the Zope directory tree, and add that location to Zope's Python path, usually using a *.pth file. The method in the Extensions directory just imports my package and then calls something in it, no more. This has always worked well for me and is easy to set up. Cheers, Tom P

Curious Problem
by stuffduff 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

Hi, I have a python external method which reads from an external database, unpickles a class object, and concatenates some of the object's properties into a string which is returned by the external method. The class definition is included in the module. When I run it from the linux prompt in the Extensions directory it behaves exactly as it should. The class is successfully unpickled, the properties are read and the string is returned. However, when I set it up as an external method and call it I get the infamous: Error Type: SystemError Error Value: Failed to import class MyObject from module __main__ >From my perspective Zope should be 'blissfully unaware' of the existence of the class or the instantiation of the object. Since the object is only accessed in the external method, the module contains the class definition, and only a string is returned, why is this happening? What am I missing here? Caching prob with AHCM and headers, was:[Zope] Caching prob with headers or reverse proxy?
by Germer, Carsten 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

Well I did some more research: AHCM does _not_ work out of the box, at least not with Apache as cache in front. Setting the headers via a dtml-method indeed does. With AHCM there are headers set but these don't trigger the caching, the headers I set with DTML do the trick. Maybe it's just a simple glitch in AHCM? Question front up: Can anyone tell about how to write a general global procedure/function/object that is called every time when any object is delivered? I would use that to test functionality before later maybe putting it into AHCM. Any hint? Here comes the headers and the logs, remember, Zope with caching Apache in front: Plain, without anything ----------------------- Header: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 11:04:24 GMT Server: Zope/(Zope 2.6.1 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.2.2, linux2) ZServer/1.1b1 Content-Length: 357 Etag: Content-Type: text/html Via: 1.1 wof1.desy.de (Apache/1.3.27) X-Cache: MISS from wof1.desy.de Connection: close Apache: 131.169.40.79 - - [25/Apr/2003:13:04:24 +0200] "GET /Germerstuff/dritte_seite HTTP/1.0" 200 357 "-" "Lynx/2.8.3dev.9 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6a" Zope: 131.169.40.79 - Anonymous [25/Apr/2003:13:04:24 +0200] "GET /VirtualHostBase/http/wof1.desy.de:80/VirtualHostRoot/Germerstuff/dritte_sei te HTTP/1.1" 200 586 "" "Lynx/2.8.3dev.9 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6a" With AHCM --------- Header: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 10:59:44 GMT Server: Zope/(Zope 2.6.1 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.2.2, linux2) ZServer/1.1b1 Content-Length: 357 Etag: Cache-Control: max-age=3600000 Expires: Fri, 06 Jun 2003 02:59:44 GMT Content-Type: text/html Via: 1.1 wof1.desy.de (Apache/1.3.27) X-Cache: MISS from wof1.desy.de Connection: close Apache: 131.169.40.79 - - [25/Apr/2003:12:59:44 +0200] "GET /Germerstuff/dritte_seite HTTP/1.0" 200 357 "-" "Lynx/2.8.3dev.9 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6a" Zope: 131.169.40.79 - Anonymous [25/Apr/2003:12:59:44 +0200] "GET /VirtualHostBase/http/wof1.desy.de:80/VirtualHostRoot/Germerstuff/dritte_sei te HTTP/1.1" 200 658 "" "Lynx/2.8.3dev.9 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6a" With headers set via DTML ------------------------- Header: HTTP/1.1 200 OK Date: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 11:09:38 GMT Server: Zope/(Zope 2.6.1 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.2.2, linux2) ZServer/1.1b1 Last-Modified: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 11:02:32 +0000 Content-Length: 301 Expires: Fri, 25 Apr 2003 12:09:26 +0000 Content-Type: text/html Via: 1.1 wof1.desy.de (Apache/1.3.27) Age: 12 X-Cache: HIT from wof1.desy.de Connection: close Apache: 131.169.40.79 - - [25/Apr/2003:13:09:38 +0200] "GET /Germerstuff/dritte_seite HTTP/1.0" 200 301 "-" "Lynx/2.8.3dev.9 libwww-FM/2.14 SSL-MM/1.4.1 OpenSSL/0.9.6a" Zope: No hit, like desired. > -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- > Von: Dylan Reinhardt [mailto:zope@dylanreinhardt.com] > Gesendet: Donnerstag, 24. redirect vs. return
by Paavo Parkkinen 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

We have a ZPT form and a python script to handle the data from the form. After some processing we return to the form with a return Form(data=data) Now we have <a name="x"> -links in the form and we would like to return to one of them. Is there any way to return with return, or do we have to use response.redirect()? -- paavo. Need help with acquisition
by Roché Compaan 25 Apr '03

25 Apr '03

Hi there I want to override __of__ on a ObjectManager subclass to set an attribute on 'self' but I am having trouble with acquisition. After I've wrapped 'self' with ImplicitAcquisitionWrapper I still can't acquire objects higher up in the acquisition tree. It seems as if self is wrapped in the context of its parent but the parent remains unwrapped. def __of__(self, parent): w_self = ImplicitAcquisitionWrapper(aq_base(self), parent) w_self.x = w_self.acquired_object.function() return w_self I also tried overriding __getattr__ but then 'self' is also unwrapped and I don't think I can wrap it there anyway since I don't have access to its parent. Any ideas on how to do this? -- Roché Compaan Upfront Systems http://www.upfrontsystems.co.za

Zope not working!!
by Greg & Janet LINDSTROM 25 Apr '03

Help! I tried to start up my Zope server tonight (on Windows 98) with http://localhost:8080/manage and got thr login dialog, but when I enter my username and password, the server crashes (the machine keeps running). In the dos window where I started the server are errors which came from medusa/logger (lines 256, 86, 62, and 74), then I get a self.file.flush complaining about a bad file descriptor. I'm sad. Bummed. Baffeled. What's going on?? Thanks, --greg
