Zope crashes after startup
by Wayne Connolly 24 Apr '03

24 Apr '03

Hi all, I just installed a fresh freebsd 5.0. I then put apache2 and zope2.6.0 onto it from src. My problem is that when zope starts, without errors(except usual python 2.2.2 untested errors), the process appears in the ps x list then drops out after about 10 seconds. It does this for no apparent reason... Its just my dev machine.. but is still annoying me. Thanks, Wayne __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Restart causes "Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 98, in publish"
by Jimmy 24 Apr '03

24 Apr '03

Hi List, I am new to the whole zope world, so I'm sorry if this is a real newbie question. :) I have zope setup and everything seems to be working OK. except for 2 things. Someone developed a zope product that I installed on the server that produces errors and in the control panel when I try to restart the zope server I get an error page. When I check the error log, I get this traceback when I try to restart: Traceback (innermost last): Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 98, in publish Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 88, in mapply Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 39, in call_object Module App.ApplicationManager, line 327, in manage_restart Module zLOG, line 130, in LOG Module ZLogger.ZLogger, line 16, in log_write Module ZLogger.stupidFileLogger, line 27, in __call__ Module ZLogger.stupidFileLogger, line 90, in stupid_log_write IOError: [Errno 5] Input/output error And the errors with the product start the same way, so I think it may be the instalation of Zope or permissions that are set wrong. Any ideas where I can start looking to fix this? (BTW, I can restart it from the command line.) I don't know if any of the following is relavent or not, but I figured it can't hurt to include it. This is the debug info: Zope version: (Zope 2.6.1 (binary release, python 2.1, linux2-x86), python 2.1.3, linux2) * Python version: 2.1.3 (#1, Sep 19 2002, 13:15:46) [GCC egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)] * System Platform: linux2 * SOFTWARE_HOME: /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/lib/python * INSTANCE_HOME: /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1 * CLIENT_HOME: /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/var * Process ID: 30719 (2051) * Running for: 2 days 13 hours 58 min 51 sec * sys.path: /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/lib/python /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1 /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1 /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1 /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/plat-linux2 /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/lib-tk /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/lib-dynload /home2/zope/pub/zope-2.6.1/lib/python2.1/site-packages Thanks for any info... by Erik Myllymaki 24 Apr '03

24 Apr '03

I am trying to use the ZsapdbDA with a version 7.4 sap database on Linux. this simple query: select count(*) as count_total from inventory group by CATEGORY returns a result set in SQL Studio, but not in the ZSQL instance? Basic SELECT statements without GROUPING clauses seem to work OK... Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

Access method of a secondary base class
by Fabio Rolando 24 Apr '03

24 Apr '03

Hi I created a ZClass with a few base classes, namely: ZObject, CatalogPathAwareBase, ZDTMLDocument, ZObjectManager (in this order) Now, when I access the manage_main method of objects of this class I'm shown the usual interface for DTMLDocuments. How can I access the Contents view that my objects inherit from ZObjectManager. Thank you

ZCatalog next/previous?
by Mark Nenadov 24 Apr '03

24 Apr '03

I'm iterating through a ZCatalog (with a typical "dtml-in Catalog" call). For each item in the Catalog, I create a link that passes the value of "sequence-query" through the URL. Once I load the page (that the URL points to), I want to be able to determine the "sequence-query" of the NEXT item in the Catalog. Is there any way to do this? I've been looking through all the documentation that I can access and have had no luck so far. I assume that this is possible. ~Mark

So you can't access anything starting with underscore, for example. You probably want to look into creating Python products. It's easier and much more powerful than doing it "inside" of the ZODB. Start with a "boring product", I don't have the link, but search for it on www.zope.org. > class bezeichnung: Ouch, german class names... :)

Zope Python OO
by Patrick W. Fraley 24 Apr '03

24 Apr '03

Hi List, I am working on a project which will make use of a lot of python code. And I just ran accros a problem trying to use python OO within zope. I created a python script: class bezeichnung: def __init__(self,id,lang='de'): self.id = id self.lang = lang self.bezeichnung = None self.status = None self.tstamp = None self._get_details() def _get_details(self): sqlData = context.get_spalte(bez_ref=self.id,lang=self.lang) self.bezeichnung = sqlData['bezeichnung'] self.status = sqlData['status'] self.tstamp = sqlData['tstamp'] def store(self): sqlReturn = context.put_akt_bezeichnung(bez_ref=self.id, bezeichnung=self.bezeichnung, lang=self.lang, status=self.status) def __eq__(self): retval = 1 for attr in self.__dict__: if hasattr(other, attr): if self.__dict__[attr] <> other.__dict__[attr]: retval = -1 else: retval = -1 but when I upload the files I get all kinds of errors about the __ things. Line 9: "__init__" is an invalid variable name because it starts with "_" ... I looked at the Zope book, but it does not mention anything directly about this, it just say to obay the Zope programming rules. Now I can not imagine it not allowing to use OO-Code, so I must be doing something wrong. RE: [Zope] Dividing Products into separate Folders

I think, I now how I confused Zope. I had the File __init__.py in both locations. This seems to be only neccassary in the "main" products folder. Thanks, Volker -----Original Message----- From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] Sent: Mittwoch, 23. I see something like this regularly when a product with the same name is located in different "Products" folders. However, I have never seen it for the "Products" folder itself. It appears as if you had confused Zope (somehow). However, when all your products are found, you can probably ignore this warning. Dieter

ANNOUNCE: Pound - reverse proxy and load balancer - v1.4
by Robert Segall 24 Apr '03

24 Apr '03

This is to announce the release of Pound v1.4. Changes in this version: - support for certificate chains - user-definable error pages - new Server configuration directive - compatability with OpenSSL 0.9.7 - compile-time flags for running in foreground and/or logging to stderr - some bug fixes and speed improvements The software is at version 1.4 (production quality). Further testing (especially under heavy loads), improvements and suggestions are welcome. What is Pound (from the Web page) - a reverse-proxy: it passes requests from client browsers to one or more back-end servers. - a load balancer: it will distribute the requests from the client browsers among several back-end servers, while keeping session information. - an SSL wrapper: Pound will decrypt HTTPS requests from client browsers and pass them as plain HTTP to the back-end browsers. - an HTTP/HTTPS sanitizer: Pound will verify requests for correctness and accept only well-formed ones. - an HTTP/1.1 to 1.0 proxy. - a fail-over-server: should a back-end server fail, Pound will take note of the fact and stop passing requests to it until it recovers. - a request redirector - it will pass client requests to separate groups of servers, based on required URL and the presence or absence of headers (pattern matching) Pound was specifically developed to serve as a front-end for multiple instances of Zope running on top of a common ZEO storage, but can be used with any other web server. A patch for the Python source of z2.py is available as part of the distribution to allow using Pound's SSL capabilities. Pound is currently in use in several medium to large volume sites and seems to be holding up quite well: largest reported site does about 5.5 million requests per day, peaking at over 450 requests per second. The speed is well superior to other, equivalent solutions, the configuration is much simpler and the necessary resources (CPU, RAM, disk) are much, much lower. Pound is distributed under the GPL. For further information, download, etc. please see http://www.apsis.ch/pound Enjoy and let me know how it works for you. -- Robert Segall Apsis GmbH Postfach, Uetikon am See, CH-8707 Tel: +41-1-920 4904
