Create top-level folder
by Matt Ficken 31 Mar '03

31 Mar '03

Part of my product's job is to create a top-level folder. Currently, I can only get it to create the folder in what ever folder the product is added in. I would like to be able to get access to the root directory object but don't know how. How do I access the root directory object? Would 'getPhysicalRoot' do that? If yes, how do I use it? -- __________________________________________________________ Sign-up for your own FREE Personalized E-mail at Mail.com http://www.mail.com/?sr=signup

RE: [Zope] Fyi: Zope 2.6.1 on HP-UX 11.0/11.11 Requires GNU tar
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 31 Mar '03

This is also a problem on Solaris; this has been known for quite a while (noted in http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Misc/InstallingZope.html) but such mention doesn't include any other Unix using a non-GNU tar, though doc/FAQ.txt (in Zope distributions) question #1 addresses this a bit more generally. You may want to update the Installation Instructions to reflect that HP-UX v11.00 or 11.11 (11i) also require the use of GNU tar for Zope. The bundled tar under HP-UX imposes a pathname limitation of about 100 chars however it does /not/ complain when encountering a long pathname. It merely cuts the pathname to the maximum and happily proceeds which causes a lot of headaches when trying to get it going. /e

RE: Multiple sort keys for ZCatalog searching (was: RE: [Zope] Ha rdware for Zope + ZEO)

+1 I have an application that needs a performance boost that this might offer over my existing workaround. In my application, I have online classified ad listings for real-estate listings(perhaps thousands in any given category), and need to sort on a geographic area, and then on a title. My current strategy is to do my own smart-but-bloated multi-pass sort of the entire result set for each request, then display batches using that result set, which uses more RAM and CPU than I would ideally like. ZCatalog supports a single sort index, I have code to extend ZCatalog's sorting capability to arbitrary many sort keys. Maybe, we want something like this in the Zope core? Dieter

Adding folders, was: RE: [Zope] (no subject)
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 30 Mar '03

OFSP is a product that comes with Zope that provides the necessary machinery to allow you to add folders and 'versions' (ZODB versions, which are long-running-transactions that usually cause more trouble than good) in the Zope Management Interface. Code in lib/python/Products/OFSP also makes it possible to use ZClasses to subclass a folder or other classes defined in lib/python/OFS, as well as use these classes in the ZMI. If you want to add new folders programmatically, you can call the factory method defined for Folder from a through-the-web Python Script object: context[id].manage_addProduct['OFSP'].manage_addFolder(id='123', title='title') FYI, if you try to do this and the folder is already there, you will get an error, for which reason you may want to consider wrapping this in a try/except pair that deals with any exceptions if you try to run a script that creates folders (either that, or give your folders meaningfully unique IDs). The following google search results might be a starting point for more info on doing this in other situations where you need to add content programatically. http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&q=zope+adding+programmatical ly&spell=1 Sean -----Original Message----- From: vasanthsena x [mailto:vasanthsena@yahoo.com] Sent: Sunday, March 30, 2003 8:45 AM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: [Zope] (no subject) Can anyone tell me what OFSP is.Also is it possible to write a python script that adds new folders in zope. Security Problem
by jamesd＠mena.org.au 30 Mar '03

I have a Zope server running with two instances of plone, "Plone1" and "Plone2". plone2 is a demo site with a user "Demo" having the role 'Manager' available to the public. plone1 is a regular plone site. If I log in to plone2 as the user Demo, then go to the following url: http://my.server/plone2/plone1 The permissions are acquired from the demo site giving full Manager access to my main plone site. This is obviously a serious problem. Any ideas how I can stop the permissions from being acquired under that situation without breaking anything? -James.
