You need to write the script for the "negative" handling. You can use the "thousands_comma" from "Products.PythonScripts.standard". Using a ZSQL method from a Python script
by Marc de Kamps 25 Mar '03

25 Mar '03

Hi, I have made a ZSQL method, which adds a line to a table, much like the hire_employee method in 'the Zope book'. When I test it, an html form appears, I can enter all data, submit. I have also implemented the list_all_employees ZSQL method, and when I test it, I can see that in fact the data have landed in the table correctly. So far, so good. >From what I understand in the Zope book, I can then add new employees from a Python script like this: ------------------ context.hire_employee(42,'bob','uncle',50000.00) return "Done" ------------------ I get an internal server error 500, however, when I hit the test button. The hire_employee method and the Python script are in the same folder. What am I overlooking ? Thanks, Marc

RE: [Zope] Accessing pythonscripts in different branch
by Ria Marinussen 25 Mar '03

Hi Geir, thanks for your help... I tried this but got an error. And therefor thought this sollution was incorrect, and tried different things with seemingly the same error... Now I noticed that the error I got was from another call to the script (in the root - but it was moved). So I was looking at the wrong place... Another *blush* moment... RE: [Zope] call a product from index_html

Thanks Dieter, I'll check 2.6 out. -----Original Message----- From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] Sent: Monday, March 24, 2003 1:58 PM To: McDonnell, Larry Cc: 'Zope@Zope. "Calling a product" seems wrong terminology. I expect, you mean "access a product", e.g. to construct an instance of one of its classes. This looks like someObjectManager.manage_addProduct[ProductName]..... > I am looking to use > ExtFile. The product is what I want but I want to avoid users having to log > into the management interface. Can this be done? Read about proxie roles in the Zope Book (2.6. edition). Dieter

Accessing pythonscripts in different branch
by Ria Marinussen 25 Mar '03

25 Mar '03

Hi, On my zope site I use some pythonscripts. I don't like them to be in the root of my site, but can't figure out how to access them when they'r not in the root. For example the menu on top of my webpages is created depending on the main branche of my site. I use a python script for that by including it in my standard_dtml_header file like this: <dtml-var expr="topmenu('branch1')"> The pythonscript "topmenu" is in the rootfolder of my site. Is it possible to move this script to a folder "scripts" and access the script on every page in my website? (How?) (I could find ways of accessing/using pythonscripts from different locations by URL in the Zope Book - feeding/vacinating hippos and stuff, but not in a dtml-var) Thanks, Ria Marinussen

Mixing DTML and Python scripts
by Thierry FLORAC 25 Mar '03

25 Mar '03

Hi, I used to create DTML methods to generate my HTML pages, but several of them are more "logic oriented" than "presentation oriented" (with a lot of <dtml-if...> !). I've seen here and there that Python scripts are really faster than DTML methods to handle such conditions, but I'd like also to keep DTML methods for several ones. Are there any drawbacks to mix DTML methods and Python scripts, calling each other, instead of keeping "pure" DTML methods ?? Thanks for any advise... Metadata indexing
by Fabio Rolando 25 Mar '03

25 Mar '03

Hi. I am trying to use Zcatalog to index and search documents through their metadata. All my documents must be provided some additional properties (metadata) and the search engine should be able to index and use this additional properties to select the documents. Is this possible with the Zope's search engine. Could you help me understanding how to do it? Please, forgive me if this question sounds silly to some expert users, but I'm quite confused about how to use the Zcatalog functionalities because I did not find any updated document (I am using zope 2.6) that could help me understanding how it works. Thank you

How should I go >about? Please guide. Thank you. How long is a stick? Really I thing you need to provide more information about what third party product you want to integrate. For what it's worth, Zope doesn't restrain you fro integrating anything. Actually it's quite easy to integrate things using Python. The limitations usually lies with the third party product and what support for integration it has. You can use XML-RPC, there are also modules for Soap, SQL, bindings to C/C++ libraries, to some extent Perl and JSP (?), you could use COM (on Windows), you could possibly use XPCOM or you can let Zope call binaries or use traditional protocols like FTP or HTTP. The most common way and imo robust way to integrate third party applications is either through a shard SQL server or a binding to C/C++ libraries. One important factor when integrating components and libraries are that the third party must (should) supply a thread safe component/library. For instance integrating with MS Word via COM isn't really recommended because it's not thread-safe (not to my knowledge any way).
