Limits of External Methods
by Ed Leafe 20 Feb '03

20 Feb '03

If I define a class in an external method, how can I expose it so that my Zope python scripts can access it? The only solution I've found is something like this: class Foo(): def method1(self, parms) ... def method2(self, parms) ... def newFoo() return Foo() def fooMethod1(oFoo, parms) return oFoo.method1(parms) ... and so forth. I then need to add separate External Methods for newFoo(), fooMethod1(), etc. Is there any way once I have a reference to an instance of Foo, that I can call its methods directly? Or is this simply not possible in Zope? ___/ / __/ / ____/ Ed Leafe http://leafe.com/ http://opentech.leafe.com

how to remove :8080?
by Einar Næss Jensen 20 Feb '03

20 Feb '03

We are running zope together with apache and via rewriterules we have gotten rid of the need to write ":8080" in the url, now the problem is that links created with absolute_url() gives the link like this: http://www.localhost.com:8080/webpages/index_html what i want, is it to make this: (ie without the portnumber) http://www.localhost.com/webpages/index_html I have a feeling i may accomplish this with virtual hostmonster, but do not know how. Any help and examples will be greately appreciated. Einar -- Einar Næss Jensen Avdelingsingeniør EDB-HF 735 90750

Obtaining the name of the authenticated user from within a product's source code
by Igor Leturia 20 Feb '03

20 Feb '03

Hi! I'm writing a product and I need to obtain the name of the authenticated user to use it in the source code of the product. I pass the REQUEST parameter to the product's method and I try to use REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER'] inside it but it says that the property doesn't exist (which is true, because I've inspected the REQUEST object and it has all the 'normal' properties (HTTP_USER_AGENT,URL...) but it doesn't have that property). But if I try to access REQUEST['AUTHENTICATED_USER'] from within a DTMLMethod, it works. Why does this happen? Thanks in advance, Igor Leturia

RE: [Zope] Creating an e-mail interface for issue tracker...

OK, I should write a script in Python for that. I think I can find info for the URL post, but I am lost when it comes to Zope; I don't know how to address Zope objects, their properties and methods from python, do you know of site for examples??? > The tough part will be determining how to get your users to > provide valid, > parsable data by e-mail consistently enough to make it worth the > trouble. The difficulty of this should not be > underestimated. Normal > people are very bad with structured data... computers aren't > so great with > unstructured data... it'll be a challenge to bridge this gap. I am not worry about that, all I need is the e-mail address of the sender, a title from the e-mail subject, and a description, again from the body of the e-mail. Issues generated by e-mail would all end up having default "section", "type" and "urgency" values. Once in the system, a member of the support team (a notifyable in "Issue Tracker" lingo) will have to modify the issues attributes himself. Regards, Francois

Re: [Zope] Problem to log out from CMF Site

Check your browser. BTW, you will not be able to log out of the CMF when you use basic authentication as only the browser can reset the corresponding login info. Dieter PS: Please stay on the list.

TAL Question: Iterating through a list
by Nesbitt, Steve 20 Feb '03

20 Feb '03

All: I'm scratching my head trying to figure out how to to iterate over a list using TAL. Here's the scenario: I am calling a python script which wraps around a ZSQL method and simply returns the result set. The set comes back as a list of dictionaries. I'm getting stuck because I can't figure out how to tell TAL to to 1) grab each item and 2) grab the value associated with each dictionary key. On a related note is there a way to call a ZSQL method directly through page templates? Thanks in advance, -steve snesbitt(a)cobaltgroup.com

For packing per cron job, please search the mailinglist archives or zope.org. After that, the size of your Data.fs should have shrunk clearly, possibly making LFS unnecessary. And please keep the discussion on the list! Martin

Dear list I have a product which I want to extend. I want to add a property. In my ZODB I all ready have ~1000 objects stored. And I would hate if I have to add them again. Is there a way to update the existing objects? \Oliver
