It's a newbie question :) How can I make 'login form' that allowing user to enter into 'Member Area' in Zope? Well, I tried to read the Zope source but I still did not understand the Zope authentication and authorization mechanism. -- mico(a)cbn.net.id --- Ph. 62-22-2505549 ICQ #12521756

Authenticating with LDAP
by Krishna 20 Feb '03

Hi ! I' am using a LDAP user folder within my CMF site for authentication. The problem that I'am facing is that I' am not able to add any user or change any user properties. The error that appears is when I try to create a new user is...: >> An Error occurred: >> Error Type: Insufficient access >> Server Message: no write access to parent In the "slapd.conf" file I have set the access control lists to... >> access to filter="objectclass=myObject" >> by dn="uid=xxx,ou=Person,dc=mysite,dc=com" write and my ldbm database definitions are.... >> database ldbm >> suffix "dc=mysite,dc=com" >> rootdn "cn=Manager,dc=mysite,dc=com" In my LDAP user folder i have also set the Manager DN to "uid=root,dc=mysite,dc=com" and have set the password too ! With these access rights I'am able to authenticate into the site but have not been able to add or modify any user / user-properties....is there a workaround for this ????????????????????? ty, Kris

I've seen it too. I guess one could do its own patch, but I think it would be nice if it were added to the main zope code. Regards, Josef

The error you're getting is typically the result of attempting to perform a slice or index operation on an empty string or a string which is substantially shorter than some expected length. Looking at the code, I can't see any place in the standard manage_editProperties where string slicing/indexing takes place. My guess would be that it *is* one of your methods kicking up this error. Do you do any error handling in this product? If your except block is also kicking up an error, that could be interfering with Zope's standard error handling. I'm just thinking off the top of my head here... sounds like there's going to need to be some detective work on your side. FWIW, Dylan

I'm on an OpenBSD (3.2) system. I just untar'd the Zope-2.6.1 file, cd'd to Zope-2.6.1-src, then issued: /usr/local/bin/python2.1 w_pcgi.py at the command line. This is what I got. Any suggestions? error: file 'Products/PluginIndexes/TextIndex/Splitter/ISO_8859_1_Splitter/src/ISO_8859_1_Splitter.c' does not exist Traceback (most recent call last): File "w_pcgi.py", line 39, in ? if __name__=='__main__': main(sys.argv[0]) File "w_pcgi.py", line 37, in main import wo_pcgi; wo_pcgi.main(me) File "/usr/local/src/Zope-2.6.1-src/wo_pcgi.py", line 33, in main import build_extensions File "/usr/local/src/Zope-2.6.1-src/inst/build_extensions.py", line 24, in ? do('%s setup.py build_ext -i' % sys.executable) File "/usr/local/src/Zope-2.6.1-src/inst/do.py", line 32, in do if i and picky: raise SystemError, i SystemError: 256

Formatting numbers with commas in Python Script or ZPT
by Michael LaPera 20 Feb '03

20 Feb '03

Hello, I thought this would be easy, but I can seem to figure out how to format a number with commas (US currency). I tried python re module, but it kept giving me a login screen (I guess you can't use the re module in Zope?). Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks,

It's easy enough to whip up a Python glue script that can hit a URL, make a POST request or even script Zope directly. That's pretty much all that's required to bridge those two systems. The tough part will be determining how to get your users to provide valid, parsable data by e-mail consistently enough to make it worth the trouble. The difficulty of this should not be underestimated. Normal people are very bad with structured data... computers aren't so great with unstructured data... it'll be a challenge to bridge this gap.
