by Jason C. Leach 04 Feb '03

hi, Does anyone use DreamweaverMX w/ Zope? I can not seem to get it working. I can not seem to get some files, especially if they are in a subfolder. I get 'Unexpected client/server communication problem.' Looks like the permissions are OK. But I am not sure. If somone else has the PC version working (Windows) please let me know. searching a ZCatalog
by catonano＠tiscali.it 03 Feb '03

03 Feb '03

Hello list, Happy New Year! Sorry if I already posted this msg, but I didn't see it so I think that was another malfunctioning of my mailer. I gave a ZCatalog and I perform searches on the PrincipiaSearchSource field. I modified the results table so that it shows links to the found occurrences, not just blackon white results Now what I'd like that when I click on one of those links, the file that opens has the occurrences highlighted somehow, say: blah bla blah occurrence blah bla blah Anyone would suggest me how? Thak you so much Bye Catonano __________________________________________________________________ Tiscali ADSL: abbonati entro il 31 gennaio. Non paghi l'attivazione. Newbie question on features/comparision
by Steven 03 Feb '03

03 Feb '03

I'm trying to look for a CMS product for a non-profit organization I work for. In doing so I discovered Zope. I think with the CMS part added on it looks to be a good product. When trying to look for articles about Zope in search engines I found the product 'Easy Publisher' http://www.easypublisher.com/ From looking at their site they say they use Zope for the base product. I was wondering if anyone on this Zope list knows about this other product and could give me a quick comparison of differences I might find from using easypublisher or just loading Zope and CMS add-on. I'm thinking I can accomplish most the features of easypublisher with just having Zope. That I'll probably have to add my own templates and things on the site anyway, so I won't gain much. I don't know Python programming, but need to some dynamic drop down menus (java script I thought) and a few other dynamic things that would automatically change as I added more sub-directories or more web pages. In other words if I added a part of the site called "Ministries", this new area would automatically appear as a link in some dynamic drop down menu. I figured I will be building these templates for my navigation header frame and side frame, no matter which product I choose. Unless someone knows that a part of easypublisher already does this OR maybe a ZOPE addin already offer this. I'm loading both products onto my Redhat box tonight. So I'll do some real testing tomorrow, but making this posting I'm hoping will get me more information than I can find in a few days of testing. Thanks, Steven Smith

incomplete environment
by martin f krafft 03 Feb '03

03 Feb '03

I know that my webserver (Apache) makes more environment variables available to a CGI such as Zope. However, REQUEST seems to contain just a subset of those. For instance, I cannot find any variables related to SSL (e.g. $HTTPS). Is there a way to access them in Zope? -- martin; (greetings from the heart of the sun.) \____ echo mailto: !#^."<*>"|tr "<*> mailto:" net@madduck NOTE: The pgp.net keyservers and their mirrors are broken! Forcing SSL
by martin f krafft 03 Feb '03

03 Feb '03

I would like to force users to manage a Zope/Plone site through SSL, and only through SSL. I have a site http://www.site.com:80, which is also directly accessible as https://www.site.com:443. The problem about forcing SSL for authenticated members is that with Apache, I can only really do so for a subdirectory. So if the site would be viewed at directory / (e.g. /products/fly), but all authenticated members see the site as /authenticated (e.g. /authenticated/products/fly), then Apache's Redirect could be used. However, Zope doesn't use different paths for authenticated and anonymous members. Since every page rendered uses standard_html_header, could I put a DTML Method or Python script in there that does the following: - Check if the access is by an authenticated member. - if yes: check for presence of the string 'https' in request/PATH_INFO - if not present: redirect to another URL How would that look? I don't know how to check for membership or how to issue an HTTP Redirect. Thanks! -- martin; (greetings from the heart of the sun.) \____ echo mailto: !#^."<*>"|tr "<*> mailto:" net@madduck NOTE: The pgp.net keyservers and their mirrors are broken! RE: [Zope] Stopping zope??

I often do: ps ax | grep python to see if zope is really running or not. It's an artefact because Python raises a "SystemExit" exeption when "sys.exit" (Python's shutdown function) is called. No one gave this exception special treatment. Therefore, you see it reported. > ...and from the linux prompt (I'm new to linux, but I tried: > "./stop" (and every conceivable variation) and get a "./stop: kill: (24799) > no such pid" message). This means either, that Zope is already stopped (e.g. because your ZMI action has been successful) or that the PID found in "var/Z2.pid" no longer describes the correct Zope process (the feature is a bit brittle). What am I doing wrong? Almost surely, you simply got confused by the (stupid) error message... python core dumps on freebsd
by george donnelly 03 Feb '03

03 Feb '03

hi I'm running Zope 2.6.0 (instance_home) with Python 2.1.3 on FreeBSD 4.7. I applied this patch to Python (http://zwiki.org/PatchPython213) to increase the thread stack size as the instance in question runs a lot of wikis and Plone sites. Everything was fine for about 7-10 days but now i'm getting seemingly-random, repetitive and isolated python core dumps. >From looking at Apache logs, events.log and the undo "log" in the root of the instance, the only connection i can remotely make is that many requests were made at the moment it core dumped (and i can only say that for one of the times it core dumped.) I'm running Plone beta 3 and zwiki 0.14.0. the ZODB is about 200MB. This is on a dual proc XEON machine with 2GB RAM. I know about this thread: http://mail.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2002-September/thread.html#17416 But I'm not coming away with anything actionable other than perhaps apply a different patch to Python? Here's the output from gdb on the latest core dump: This GDB was configured as "i386-unknown-freebsd". Core was generated by `python2.1'. Program terminated with signal 10, Bus error. #0 0xa272b8c in ?? () Most other dumps were on signal 11 Can anyone suggest how i can go about interpreting this? Here is the output from /var/log/messages on the latest batch of core dumps: Feb 3 08:26:08 alpha /kernel: pid 84972 (python2.1), uid 1006: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Feb 3 08:26:17 alpha /kernel: pid 92001 (python2.1), uid 1006: exited on signal 11 (core dumped) Feb 3 08:26:31 alpha /kernel: pid 92010 (python2.1), uid 1006: exited on signal 10 (core dumped) Feb 3 08:30:03 alpha /kernel: pid 92026 (python2.1), uid 1006: exited on signal 10 (core dumped) I'd appreciate any advice on how to go about analyzing this and finding a solution. thanks. <--> george donnelly - http://zettai.net/ - "We Love Newbies" :) Zope Hosting - Dynamic Website Design - Search Engine Promotion Yahoo, AIM: zettainet - ICQ: 51907738 - e:george@zettai.net

Stopping zope??
by George Siemens 03 Feb '03

03 Feb '03

Hi... I'm going for the "simplest/dumbest" question of the year award: How do I stop zope? I just set it up on Red Hat Linux...and after running "./start &" the server is up and running. I've now added CMF and would like to shut it down/restart. Can't do it. I've tried from the ZMI control panel (error message)...and from the linux prompt (I'm new to linux, but I tried: "./stop" (and every conceivable variation) and get a "./stop: kill: (24799) no such pid" message). What am I doing wrong? George PS - I'm also running zope on win 2000 - no prob - init file does the trick.

Upload progress bar
by Gitte Wange 03 Feb '03

03 Feb '03

Hello, I need to create a progress bar for file uploads to my cmf site. Would it be possible to do it directly in Zope or do I need some sort of java applet handling the file upload ?? Anyone done something like this ? -- Gitte Wange Technical Manager Email: gitte(a)mmmanager.org Web: http://www.mmmanager.org Tlf: +45 36 46 20 02 (On the statement print "42 monkeys"+"1 snake") BTW, both perl and Python get this wrong. Perl gives 43 and Python gives "42 monkeys1 snake", when the answer is clearly "41 monkeys and 1 fat snake". -- Jim Fulton, 10 Aug 1999

Deleted acl_user
by baiewola＠netscape.net 03 Feb '03

All of my users are defined at the root level. One of them did a lot of work on my site and has local roles and owned objects all over the place. I deleted him from the acl_users. My question is, can he still access everything for which he has a local role? Or does the act of removing him from acl_users make all his local roles irrelevant? __________________________________________________________________ The NEW Netscape 7.0 browser is now available.
