Referencing objects not in same folder
by Andy Bramah 22 Jan '03

Hello all, I'm sure this must be a simple one, but I can't see the answer: I have made a python script that returns a list of strings for a selection box. I go to the 'Properties' tab of the folder containing the script and add a name, value and type of 'Selection'. The selection box works OK. But what Value do I use when accessing it from a different folder? eg: root --- A -- script | -- B -- (want to access script from here) Tried container/A/script and ../A/script, but keep on getting 'No request variable' error. Any ideas? Andy (Zope new(ish)bie) __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Ah, true enough. I had to go look it up, but you're right. Thanks for pointing out my goof. You can assign a value attribute that determines what the *inbound* value of a checked box will (should) be. A useless feature, perhaps, but one that is most surely there. The value attribute still has nothing to do with whether the box is displayed as checked or how you catch the data and stuff it in your db... which still seems to be the problem faced by the original poster. The OP was trying to figure out why his forms weren't displaying the correct "values" for the checkboxes. Either he needed to know how to check for their state coming in or how to set it going out. Ultimately, the value attribute is germane to neither question and he seemed to expect it to do stuff it simply doesn't do. My apologies for any confusion. I should keep my Pocket Reference out when I post on HTML. :-) Dylan

From: Moore, Paul > From: Jan-Frode Myklebust [mailto:janfrode@parallab.no] >> Who's giving you "Permission denied"? Zope or apache? > Apache, as far as I can see. No indication of why, in any of the > logs, though :-( I found the problem. There *was* a message (only a warning...) in the error log, but I didn't understand it, and missed the fact that it was important :-( Basically, I had mod_proxy loaded (to handle the [P] flag on the rewrite rule), but no mod_proxy_http. Everything is now working as I expect (still some issues to get to the bottom of, but I think I can handle these on my own). Thanks for the help, Paul

whats the difference in publishing a zpt and a products-method ?
by Joachim Schmitz 22 Jan '03

22 Jan '03

Hi, I have developed a folderish product, with a method: def externalEdit(self,REQUEST,RESPONSE): """Publish the object to the external editor helper app""" return REQUEST If I call this with: http://localhost:/myProd/externalEdit, the request is printed. If I call it with: http://localhost:/myProd/externalEdit/test, a not found error is printed I also have a pagetemplate eetest in the myProd-folder, which simply contains: <span tal:content="structure request"></span> If I call this with: http://localhost:/myProd/eetest/test the request is printed, with traverse_subpath ['test'] so what is the difference calling a pagetemplate and a products method ? "Checkboxes don't have a value attribute." ??? Since when? I've been using values on checkboxes since I have been building web forms....going on 10 years now... adding checked only determines whether it is checked or not be default when the form loads. If you have a bunch all named the same and several are checked, they are handled as a list of values with the name of "listname" or whatever you call it. Unless I have been using it wrong all this time...but it works like this now for me on many, many forms. And works well... -----Original Message----- From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of Dylan Reinhardt Sent: Tuesday, January 21, 2003 8:55 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: RE: [Zope] Returning and showing value of a checkbox At 05:02 PM 1/21/2003, Don Brooksby wrote: > > I have even tried to do: > > <td><input type="checkbox" name="newmain" value="<dtml-var main>"></td> Checkboxes don't have a value attribute. They are either checked or not checked. Your two options are: <input type=checkbox name=whatever checked> <input type=checkbox name=whatever> That's all they do, other attributes will be ignored. In your template file, insert the string "checked" into your tag if the value corresponding to this box is true. If it isn't, don't. The code to do that in DTML and ZPT was posted earlier. When you process the form, use something like the following to get the value of your checkbox: my_box_value = REQUEST.form.get('my_checkbox_name', 0) If the box isn't checked, the name of the box may not be posted to your processing script. In that case, get() provides a not-found value of zero, corresponding to a "false" value you'd want to have received from an un-clicked checkboxes. Does that help?
