You're right, I should have mentioned that *much* earlier. >About your other problem, before pasting an object into a container, it is >tested if you are allowed to add an object of this metatype to that >container, and in your case zope thinks you aren't allowed to do that. >That causes an error. But I don't want non-managers to be able to add just any folder there, I only want them to be able to add a folder that was created by this particular script. (ie, one that has the right name, and has had its permissions properly set up) What I really should do is create a Product, but this seemed so simple to start off that I figured I would just hack it in this way.... Live & learn.... > >I think my memories faulted me and that Owner thing was not what solved our >copy&paste problem. It wasn't. I mentioned on the other thread that I found that my user had never had the "Owner" role set at all (been using Zope for 2 years now, so it must not be very important?) Once I set that, I was able to proxy as Owner, but the script still did not work right. I believe it is either a bug, or else the way things are supposed to work with manage_clone. > >About manage_changePermissions, I think you should use this method: > >def manage_permission(self, permission_to_manage, > roles=[], acquire=0, REQUEST=None) That is the one! Gets me where I was going. Thank you so much for your help today. Hi; Turns out I did not have the Owner role activated for my user. Turning that on allowed me to proxy for Owner, but as you suspected it did not fix the problem. I have never needed to (try to) proxy as Owner before either. Proxy as Manager has always done the trick before. I am working on working around this another way now. manage_changePermissions from Script(Python)
by Lee Harr 10 Jan '03

10 Jan '03

Hi; On another thread, I am having trouble using manage_clone to make a copy of one folder and put it inside of another folder. The reason I want to use clone, instead of just making a new folder is that I want the new folder to have the restricted permissions of my template. I thought since I cannot get the proxy role manager to create this clone, I would just make a new folder and set its perms up the way I want, but now I am having trouble figuring out how to call manage_changePermissions from my python script. I look at the form that calls manage_changePermissions normally, but it uses form elements with name="p2r0". I could look through that page source and try to figure out how the permissions I want to change are named (p22r3 or whatever) and try to call the method like that, but there must be a better way. Any pointers? _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: smart spam protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

Chris, In fact, What I want to know is what could happen if I use (Zope 2.6 + Python 2.2) combination. I'd appreciate it if you would elucidate. by Ulrich Wisser 10 Jan '03

Hello, I try to access a folder property from within a product. But I have no clue what my python code should look like? I have my manage_test function called from the web, but how can I test if a property is available (in one of the parents)? Thanks Ulli

>You cannot set a proxy role to a role you do not have yourself. If >someone else is the owner of an object , you do not have the owner >role, and thus cannot set it as proxy. > >Take ownership of the object first. > That makes sense, but it does not seem to be the problem. I click on the Ownership tab and it shows as being owned by my user. I also tried creating a new Python Script (should be owned by my user, right?) and immediately changing the Proxy Roles of that new script, but it says I am not authorized. Is it not possible to proxy as owner for a Python Script? _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 with e-mail virus protection service: 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus

>Hmm... this is strange. I can proxy as Manager or Anonymous, >but if I try to set Proxy Roles to Owner, I get: > >You are not authorized to change add2 because you do not have proxy >roles. I am able to set Proxy Roles to Owner on a DTML-Method, so I made a wrapper which calls my Python Script. It still asks for authentication or else gives the same error. _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE*. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

ExternalEditor, IE and https
by Paul Browning 10 Jan '03

10 Jan '03

Hi. Just to report that I've had a number of people confirm the problem - over https IE fails to work with ExternalEditor (tested on IE V4, 5 and 6 so the problem has been there a long time which makes me think that the problem lies with IE and may not be easily worked around). A fix may not be possible but I am interested in a workaround. Here's why: We are gradually rolling out Zope to a growing number of users who have unpredictable desktops. We only allow connections over https to the ZMI. The problem is a support issue - if an IE user sees the ExternalEditor pencil icon then they might reasonably expect to click it and have it work. Might it be possible to introduce to ExternalEditor some sort of browser and/or protocol detection so that only non-IE users see the pencil icon? Even better, might there be a way of implementing an ExternalEditor permission on a per folder or per user basis? If either/both is technically possible please let me know - I _might_ be able to find modest funding for such a development. A ZODB storage and Undo machinery issue
by Ausum Studio 10 Jan '03

10 Jan '03

ProductX I'm writing performs the following routine every time an object's management page is viewed: It checks whether the object's url is already stored at a record in ProductX object, and also assigns a new hits number for that record. This means that every time I view a page in the ZMI, a store procedure is called. (Caller is somewhere on the manage_tabs dtml file.) My problem is how to avoid that after a simple view of a page (and comsecuently a storage procedure is performed) the Undo machinery considers the current view method as a valid transactioned object. As an example, just by opening the Properties management window one time and another, the manage_propertiesForm dtml method appears -in the Undo page- as a valid transaction in the current pile, as many times as we have clicked the link, thus disturbing the whole undo machinery. (No undo will work at all). I'm writing a simple aid for the ZMI, but the need to perform a storage procedure like this (universal and site-wide) is also shared by people wanting to perform and show live site stats. Could anyone point me in the right direction? How to avoid the recording of any particular transaction? Thanks in advance, Ausum
