Content mgt for non-technical people

Hello, I am very new to Zope, but am impressed about the way it enables you to formalise site logic and the look and feel. However in the short time I've been using Zope, it does not seem to be a very suitable environment for non-technical people to add content to the site. Preferably, I would like people to be able to create new or modify existing content items, possibly with some workflow, without them having the need to edit html/dtml documents. For example, a content editor is presented with a form for each content type, where he can enter the relevant data in plain text and when the form is submitted, the data is entered as Zope objects in the zope server. Did I overlook some features in Zope or are there readily available modules that accomplish this? Do I have to build it myself? Regards, Robert

One word answer: Plone. http://plone.org <http://plone.org> . A Zope/CMF CMS realization/UI/add-on product - works (and works well) out of the box, and a bit of tweaking, codeing, and some experimenting will get you much, much more. Has a well-thought-out UI design, and binary installers/controller apps for several platforms. There is also a plone-users mailing list that is very active. WAI Complient Code

Is the HTML/DHTML that zope generates WAI complient? If not how mcuh work would it take to make it so? I've looked all over the web for this and there doesn't seem to be any info. BACKGROUND DO NOT NEED TO READ IF YOU DO NOT WANT The company I'm working for have a contract with a government agency so the code has to be WAI complient the contest so far is between SharePoint, Lotus Notes and Zope. Lotus Notes is hopeless at WAI Complience and SharePoint has no info on the subject.

Seems like you have three types of things you can do to discover the code value: 1) Put the code into the filename and use string processing to extract it. This requires the the people producing the file name the file correctly. 2) Put the code into the html file itself. The best place for this would be a <meta> element. This requires you to extract the code value from the HTML file as you started out asking about. It also requires the people generating the file to insert the code value correctly. This approach is the most markup-language like approach. If you put it into a META element, you ought to be able to retrieve it using a regular expression. That would probably be the simplest thing to do. You would probably do that using a python external method. 3) Compute the right code value usng some algorithm. I have no idea if that would be possible for your files or not. If it is possible, you would not depend on the file creator to handle the code properly. Once you know what the code value is, you want to use it somehow. You would use that dictionary when you build the menu. I have never done this programatically but it ought to be possible. Otherwise, you could write an external method to do the same thing by reading a file that contains the dictionary in text form (you create the dictionary by using eval()). When you receive a new file (or periodically using a scheduled task) you would look through the directory and build a new version of the dictionary. It ought to be easy. Cheers, Tom P

Good books after 'The Zope Book' & 'Web App Dev + Content Mgmt'?

Hi, I read both, and actually found the Zope Book a better introduction, especially the in-development online version. The Zope Bible seems pretty good, but would someone recommend "Zope Developer's Handbook", "Zope Web Application Construction Kit", and "The Book of Zope"? The last one doesn't seem very good, though. Thx Fred.

Calling DTML

Forwarding control from a Python script a DTML method in Zope 2.5.1 used to work like this: return _['updoc'](container, request) Now I am getting a Key error on 'updoc' which is a DTML method in the same skinned folder as the script. Any ideas? Kevin

Tracebacks in 2.6.0

Hi Kevin, I had the same problem and solved it like so: go to the module: Zope_2_6\lib\python\ZPublisher\HTTPResponse.py search for 'APPEND_TRACEBACKS = 0' and change it to '1' as the comment says. There is a way to improve it further. You can get even the relevant bit of the source-code in the concerned module by a nice extension written by Anatoly Artamonov and called trace_bk.py. I am very happy with this and it helps a lot of understanding the course of errors. now I have my old 2.5. error-messages plus a bit more ;-). You can even add <strong>Error error_tb: <dtml-var error_tb></strong><br> to your standart_error_message to get even more information. For that you have to change def _traceback in HTTPResponse.py like so: def _traceback(self, t, v, tb, as_html=1): #### Start 2 lines added for trace_bk from Shared.trace_bk import new_tb return new_tb(t,v,tb, self.debug_mode) #### End: 2 lines added for trace_bk tb = format_exception(t, v, tb, as_html=as_html) return '\n'.join(tb) -- hope you'll love it like me, Elena

Interesting name space question

I am curious if the following is possible in dtml... I have a dtml-method named index_html. It calls a dtml-method named page_header. Is it possible for the code in page_header to obtain the title of the index_html method? For example: index_html: (Title set to "Home") <dtml-var page_header> page_header: <dtml-var Title of calling dtml method> I have been searching through the archives and such but since dtml-methods look up variables in the containing namespace, I'm not sure if this is a possibility. Any ideas?

2Gurus: DB layer and ZODB timeouts

Hello, all. This a question to advanced ZGurus. ;-) When I have close a DB connection (exactly ZOracleConnection) and even deleted from ZODB, there is still a Oracle session. This is very bad, because count of sessions grows very fast. :( In Zope 2.5.0 session between Database and Server timeout is approx. 7-12 min, but in Zope 2.6.0 is probably forewer. :( Is there some cache of something? If yes, where it can be reduced to minimum? Does anybody know how to enforce to KILL em immediately and release a session between servers? Otherwise Zope goes to be unusable tool for "per-user" connections. :( -- Regards, Bogdan Of course I use Microsoft. Setting up a stable unix network is no challenge ;p
