help on CLIENT_HOME format under win32
by Giuseppe Bonelli 20 Dec '02

20 Dec '02

Hi all, I seek suggestions on the following problem: I have a class foo that references files kept on the filesystem (by subclassing ExternalFile). One of the properties of foo is the path to the referenced externalfile which is used also as an index in the Catalog. All the paths string values are constructed in an OS independent way by means of os.path.join(CLIENT_HOME, my-app-basepath). The problem is that if you install Zope on win32 under the standard "Program Files" dir, the CLIENT_HOME variable value get translated in the ugly "Progr~1\" format and hence the Catalog cannot match this string to the real path string. The obvious solution would be to hardwire in the code the full basepath to the external files, but there should be a more elegant solution. Any suggestion ? TIA, --peppo

Zope Book call for assistance
by Chris McDonough 20 Dec '02

20 Dec '02

Hi, Time has rolled around for me to ask for assistance with editing the most recent edition of the Zope Book. A "2.6 edition" of the Zope Book exists at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/index_html. It has many new chapters and a most existing chapters have been rewritten and extended. But it's not finished and I'd really like this Zope Book edition to be the "current" edition by the time Zope 2.6.1 comes out. If anyone has the time and inclination to edit and extend one of the following chapters of the 2.6 edition Zope Book, you will be rewarded with a glowing mention in the Preface of the book. If you professionally edit two chapters, you'll be considered a coauthor and your name will go on the header. That'd be nice on a resume, I'd imagine. Maintaining Zope: <http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/MaintainingZope… > Extending Zope (ZClasses): < http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/CustomZopeObjec… > Relational Database Connectivity: < http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/RelationalDatab… > Users and Security: < http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/Security.stx > Advanced DTML: < http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/AdvDTML.stx > Searching and Categorizing Content (ZCatalog): < http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/SearchingZCatal… > Advanced Zope Scripting: < http://www.zope.org/Documentation/Books/ZopeBook/2_6Edition/ScriptingZope.s… > "Editing and extending" these chapters means: - Downloading the source version of the chapter via the "STX source" link at the top of the page. - Addressing all the comments in the section (by deleting the extraneous ones and answering via narrative in the document the meaningful ones). - Extending the chapter based on your own personal experience. - Optionally re-screenshotting and renumbering the figures based on the format of the already re-screenshotted Basic Objects chapter (I can do this as well if you can't, as long as I know what needs to be done). - Sending the edited source back to me for inclusion into the Book. Thanks much! - C

RE: [Zope] Re: Help with Authentication and Zope 2.6
by Mills Mr C P 20 Dec '02

This is not the problem. I can authenticate and access the ZMI with no problem. The problem I am having seems to be in the permissions on an object. I don't seem to be able to make an object viewable only to 'authenticated' users. Thanks for your suggestion anyway and very swift response anyway. -----Original Message----- From: Maik Jablonski To: zope(a)zope.org Sent: 19/12/02 22:53 Subject: [Zope] Re: Help with Authentication and Zope 2.6 Mills Mr C P wrote: > HELP!!! > > I have just upgraded one of my servers to Zope 2.6.0 and am having problems > with authentication. > > I have a simple requirement that one folder requires a username and password > to access it's contents. Easier maintenance than through management iface?
by Martin F Krafft 19 Dec '02

19 Dec '02

Hi Zopers, Please excuse the length of this email. I'd greatly appreciate if you'd read through it nevertheless and give me some feedback. Our lab wants to change the website[1] over to a content management system. I am not so much in favour of these Slashdot-like PHP-integrated packages, and so I started looking into Zope. It's not my first time that I am playing around with it, but I guess it's safe to say that I am still a newbie. 1. http://www.ifi.unizh.ch/ailab/ I would like to use Zope for this purpose because of the positive feedback I got, and because it's an excellent opportunity for me to learn Zope (which I wanted to do for a while) by doing it. However, we have a couple of requirements for a CMS, and while I know that Zope is very extensible (and it not really being a CMS per se), I have not been able to meet these requirements with a test installation (of Debian's Zope 2.5.1). I like the management interface, but I can't expect everyone at the lab to use it, nor can I really expect them to do either of ZPT or DTML. Ideally, I want to get rid of HTML for the end-user as a whole. I would like to provide templates for the main parts of the website and let authorized users maintain the data contained through forms via the web browser. They should be able to do simple formatting (like in a Wiki), but they should not be able to influence the structure of the documents. I think about this in terms of a <span> tag surrounding the part that a user can edit, and an edit button provided alongside (only if e.g. the user comes from our IP space). The rest of the page they cannot influence, they can only change the content. My first question is: does Zope provide such a framework? I looked at the CMF, but I didn't find what I was searching. I need no member management (the authorized editors should be handled by Zope's ACLs), I need no forum-posting-comment thing, but I want full control over the structure and layout, while giving the authenticated users full control over contents. One way of approaching this is to use a database backend for the information, and to provide simple editing forms for the user. However, The data to be stored is not really susceptible to storage in a relational database as it's too diverse. Moreover, I'd have to provide editing forms for every type of modification, and last but not least, the user could not edit in place but would have to go somewhere entirely different if a change is needed. I would like to roll out Zope, but I need to make it easier for the users. Zope is way more powerful than HTML (obviously), but the only argument that will fly and support my proposed change over to using your (excellent) software is if the users' life will be simplified. Can Zope achieve this? Thanks, and sorry again for the length of this post! PIL error: decoder jpeg not available
by dave＠loewen.com 19 Dec '02

19 Dec '02

I'm desperately trying to get PIL going under Zope, so I can run the Photo and Photo Folder products. Everything seems to be working fine as long as I stick to .gif images-- I can create a photo folder, add photo docs, pregenerate thumbnails, etc. However, it breaks when I try to use a .jpg image. When I try to create a photo doc with a .jpg, I get the following error: * Module PIL.Image, line 255, in _getdecoder IOError: decoder jpeg not available OK, so i've searched all the lists I can find, and it seems as if i don't have JPEG support compiled into PIL. If I go to /var/zope/lib/python2.1/site-packages/PIL and run "ldd _imaging.so", I get: libc.so.6 => /lib/i686/libc.so.6 (0x42000000) /lib/ld-linux.so.2 => /lib/ld-linux.so.2 (0x80000000) I believe I should have a line in there like "libjpeg.so.6 => /usr/lib/libjpeg.so.6". But I don't. So I believe this means that I need to recompile the PIL libraries? I went back to my PIL /libImaging folder and tried manually editing the ImConfig.h file. I uncommented the line /* Define if you have the IJG jpeg library (-ljpeg). */ #undef HAVE_LIBJPEG */ then re-run make, but the new "_imaging.so" still doesn't seem to be linked to libjpeg.so.6. I think i'm close, but I can't quite get there. How do I recompile PIL with JPG support? Sorry for being an idiot here, but can someone help drag me the last 10 feet to victory? --dave

Tru64 problems
by Uwe Schuerkamp 19 Dec '02

19 Dec '02

Hi folks, whenever I try to "find objects" within a Zcatalog on Tru64 Unix (python 2.1.3 compiled from source), Zope crashes with the following error: zdaemon Process 10468 terminated by signal SIGFPE(8) This happens both using 2.6.0 and 2.6.1b1, when adding metadata "summary" which most objects do not have, and reindexing. I know this is a rather blurry description, but if there is a way I can get more info out of Zope I'd be more than happy to provide it. RE: [Zope] My Zope is leaking memory ... Still no luck. (PythonSc ript bug)
by Jean-Francois.Doyon＠CCRS.NRCan.gc.ca 19 Dec '02

Dieter, I most definitely use Python 2.1.3 ... I however AM using 2.5.0 ... A bit old I know, I'm about to start working on upgrading when 2.6.1 comes out ... Are there specific bugs in 2.5.0 that could be causing this behavior? I vaguely recall looking at the Change Log and Collector, but not finding much about any kind of memory leak ... For now I AM going to try and remove any use I make of REQUEST.set, see if that helps ... Thanks! Are you sure, you use Python 2.1.3 and at least Zope 2.4.4 or 2.5.1? If you do, I would be very astonished when explicit clearing of Python script variables were still necessary. (We do not clear any Python script variables and do not see disturbing leaks). Dieter

Object propogation
by David Mackay 19 Dec '02

19 Dec '02

I'm trying to filter the results of a Zsearch, and return the filtered results to the user. I have an external python script which queries a textindex, and returns a list of mybrain objects. I can then build a new list with the filtered results, and return that to the dtml method which displays the first 20 results with no problem. I copied the dtml method generated by an add Z Search Interface, and modified it to process the filtered list. The problem is that I can't get it to handle the next 20 (and so on) results. The Fresults list that I process the first time doesn't propogate to the next iteration. The results list obviously DO propogate for the unaltered search forms. Does anyone have any suggestions? Array question??
by McDonnell, Larry 19 Dec '02

19 Dec '02

Hi, This question has two parts. The first is establishing an array element. I have followed the examples I have found. First let me explain what I am trying to accomplish. I have an online form that allows the user to input header information (customer, address, etc) and the next set of forms they can enter line items that detail the problem with each part number. At the end, in our company, depending on 2 parameters, will define the signature block needed for each part (approval/rejected). For example, Part1 name1 name2 name3 Part2 name1 name3 Part3 name2 name4 This works, thank god. Now they want a routing list so on the cover page they would see name1 name2 name3 name4 I know I need two arrays but I may have the wrong syntax. I need to load all the names and go through them again looking for dups. If someone has a better way I am open to suggestions. Here is my code so far. Thanks in advance. <dtml-let nameArray="[]"> <dtml-in lookup_doc_control_query> <dtml-in lookup_product_family> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('product_id', product_id)"> </dtml-in> <dtml-in lookup_line_item_query> <dtml-in lookup_doc_type_id_query> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('doc_type_id', doc_type_id)"> </dtml-in> <dtml-in lookup_required_app_query sort=designation reverse> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('titleid', titleid)"> <dtml-in lookup_titles_query> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('titleid', titleid)"> <dtml-in lookup_authorize_sig_query> <dtml-in lookup_employee_query> <dtml-call "nameArray.append(last_name)"> <dtml-var expr="nameArray.append[sequence-item]">** </dtml-in> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> </dtml-in> </dtml-let> Larry McDonnell Proton Energy Systems 10 Technology Drive Wallingford, CT 06492 (203) 678-2181 Email:lmcdonnell@protonenergy.com www.protonenergy.com
