I am getting the hang of Zope and have just built (75%) a personal test website. Now to test it I want to load it to my ISP (linux, php, perl etc)where I have 100mb of space. I cannot find any How-to or FAQ to show me how. The Tutorial and the 'Book' do not go into it. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks Dapo

Sort DateTime objects?
by Jim Kutter 11 Nov '02

11 Nov '02

Hi I have a product with a class that contains a DateTime object with the name datetime (I know, bad choice, but the choice has been made...) So I want to sort a collection of these objects by ascending date. So I get all objects of that type into a list called "events" then use the sequence module So this is my basic logic - sorted = sequence.sort(events, (('datetime.x()', 'cmp', 'asc'),)) Where x has been timeTime, millis, and just the datetime attribute itself ('datetime') This yields the "sorted" list having the event objects in order of their filename, not datetime value. The datetime attibute stores both date and time, not just dates - other objects that just store dates (ie 10/31/2002) work fine with this method. Implementing my own sort algo with my own cmp function yields correct results, but is much slower. def mycmp(a, b): if DateTime(a.datetime).millis() < DateTime(b.datetime).millis(): return 1 elif DateTime(a.datetime).millis() > DateTime(b.datetime).millis(): return -1 else: return 0 mysort(events, mycmp) where mysort is a stock quicksort implementation. What am I doing wrong with the sequence module? -jim

Maintain Input Variables around forms
by McDonnell, Larry 11 Nov '02

11 Nov '02

Hi, I am having a problem maintaining my input variable throughout the data input process. First, I ask the user to input a record number so they can add information to the main record. The first time through the form does not error out and the new record is written. Write record after submit <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('nc_report_no', REQUEST.SESSION['nc_report_no'])"> <dtml-in nonc_disposition_search sort=nc_report_no reverse size=1 start=query_start> ("archive the record") <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('line_item_number', line_item_number)"> </dtml-in> <dtml-call expr="update_nonc_partb_record(REQUEST)"> Thanks information has been saved. <a href="update_nonc_partb">Add More Dispositions</a> <a href="index_html">Back to Main Page</a>   If they need to create additional records, I give them a link to go back the input inform. This is where the problem starts. If I use the following: Form <dtml-in lookup_nc_report_no_query> I'll get an in "Missing input variable, nc_report_no" If I add this to the input form and start with a fresh browser window: Form <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('nc_report_no', REQUEST.SESSION['nc_report_no'])"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.SESSION.set('nc_report_no', nc_report_no)"> <dtml-in lookup_nc_report_no_query> I will see this error: Error Type: KeyError Error Value: nc_report_no Is there a way to set the variable globally and avoid the keyerror issue. Red Hat Sys V init script for Zope start up at boot
by Jon Whitener 11 Nov '02

11 Nov '02

If you're a newbie like me, running a single instance of Zope on Red Hat Linux, you may want Zope to start up automatically at boot. Here's an init script I wrote that might help. Put this script in your /etc/rc.d/init.d directory, name it 'zope', and 'chmod +x zope'. Then use chkconfig or the GUI Service Configurator to turn the script on for the run-levels you want (see link in script for more about run-levels). Typically, you'll want to turn on levels 3, 4, and 5. The point of this script is to - as much as I could - start up and shut down Zope like other Linux services, e.g. crond or sshd. Read the comments in the script for more info. NOTE: This script was written to start Zope as a regular user (non-root), so I don't think you can set the HTTP port to 80, for instance. (My intention is to set up Squid on that port to cache and relay Zope pages.) Hope this helps, Jon Whitener Detroit, Michigan, USA ----- SCRIPT BEGINS BELOW ------ #!/bin/bash # # /etc/rc.d/init.d/zope # # SysV init script for the Zope web application server; # written for Red Hat Linux 7.3. # # chkconfig: 345 60 40 # processname: zope # pidfile: /var/run/zope.pid # description: The Zope Web application server provides an \ # on-line infrastructure for developing and serving \ # Web sites. # Red Hat (I'm using version 7.3) provides standard functions for System V # init scripts that start and stop services listed in the rc.? directories # (when changing run-levels, like at boot-time), as well as other functions # like status and restart. # # Unfortunately, these functions (found in /etc/init.d/functions) have a # weakness when it comes to monitoring Zope: they rely on reading a 'pid # file' for Zope in the /var/run directory to determine whether or not Zope # is running. (A 'pid file' is simply a small text file containing the # process ID number of the service.) # # Zope writes its pid file to /zope-dir/var/Z2.pid when it starts, and # furthermore, Zope does not remove the pid file when Zope shuts down. # # So, I've tried to implement the intent of the daemon (start), killproc # (stop), status, and reload/restart functions here for Zope, using as much # as possible of the Red Hat functions, which for one thing makes it easy # to start Zope at boot-time as a non-super user ********* # # One thing I didn't solve was removing the /var/run/ pid file when Zope # is shut down without using the killproc function, e.g. when it is # shut down through-the-web via the Zope control panel. The main # effect of this is that you'll see a (harmless) [FAILED] indicator # when Linux tries to shut down a process that isn't running. # # For more information on Red Hat runlevels, see: # http://www.redhat.com/support/resources/tips/Boot-Process-Tips/Boot-Process… # # Note that this script is intended for a single Zope instance. # # Jon Whitener # 11 November 2002 # Source function library. peter sabaini] > > DTML != XML, so theres no such thing as a DTD for DTML > Not quite. DTD is an SGML thing (XML being a special subset), and are not limited just to XML. There is a DTD for HTML, for example. However, DTML is not SGML either. I do not think you could successfully write a DTD for DTML (although SGML is amazingly flexible, I'm not sure it is quite this flexible). Cheers, Tom P

RE: [Zope] Frames & Python
by Passin, Tom 11 Nov '02

[ Sebastian Queißer ]Hi! > > How can I load the return of a function in a frame wich > already exists and should only be updated similar to Zope's > menu frame, when you delete an Object? > Loading of frames is entirely controlled by the browser. Either you specify a target attribute in a form, or you have to use javascript from another frame to reload the one of interest. In your case, it sounds like you need to use javascript in the first frame to load the second one. The best place to do this is in the body onload event. It would look something like this - <body onLoad='parent.frames["name-of-the-other-frame"].location=new_url'> Or you could use location.replace() instead if you do not want to add to the browsng history. Cheers, Tom P
