Anyway, I was looking for how to do something similar to this. In DTML, after making a round-trip to Formulator, one can call variables thus: <dtml-var my_var_from_the_form_that_user_filled_out> I've tried to research how to do this one myself before asking, but how do I do this? Update to: Zope crashed when running RDFSummaryUpdate script
by Michael 04 Nov '02

04 Nov '02

I tried once again to stop and restart zope and it started up fine. Apache would still not start, giving the same error message: Syntax error on line 260 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf: FastCgiIpcDir /tmp: can't create dynamic directory "/tmp/dynamic": access for server (uid -1, gid -1) failed: read not allowed /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started I then commented out the lines in httpd.conf referring to FastCGI, restarted Apache, with Zope running and everything seems to work fine. I don't understand. Michael I just experienced a strange problem. I'm running Zope 2.44, Python 2.13 and Apache 1.3.22. I was attempting to run my RDFSummaryUpdate script: <dtml-with RDF> <dtml-in "objectValues('RDF Summary')"> <dtml-with sequence-item> <dtml-call "update()"> </dtml-with> </dtml-in> </dtml-with> and it apparently hosed Zope. It appeared to be locked up as it was not responding to anything any longer. I tried stopping and re-starting Zope and it made no difference. I tried stopping and restarting Apache and I got this message: Syntax error on line 260 of /usr/local/apache/conf/httpd.conf: FastCgiIpcDir /tmp: can't create dynamic directory "/tmp/dynamic": access for server (uid -1, gid -1) failed: read not allowed /usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start: httpd could not be started The following first line is line 260 on httpd.conf: FastCgiIpcDir /tmp FastCgiExternalServer /usr/local/apache/htdocs/zope \ -socket zope.soc \ -pass-header Authorization This is apparently the only error, as when i commented this out Apache started fine. Any ideas on how to recover Zope, and could the update script have actually caused this, or was this just some weird timing, coincience thing? Where does "field_" prefix come from in Formulator fields?
by Skip Montanaro 04 Nov '02

04 Nov '02

It appears that when expanding a Formulator form field a "field_" prefix gets tacked onto the field name. For example, one field I have is named "postal_code". When this <td tal:content="structure here/form/postal_code/render">item</td> is rendered it expands to <td><input size="10" value="" type="text" name="field_postal_code" /></td> although I named to the object "postal_code", not "field_postal_code". Where does "field_" come from and how can I get rid of it? Thanks, -- Skip Montanaro - skip(a)pobox.com http://www.mojam.com/ http://www.musi-cal.com/

ZCatalog query optimisation
by Thierry Florac 04 Nov '02

04 Nov '02

Hi... I have a quite big ZCatalog, on which I have to make several queries including several indexes. Is there any way to optimize such queries (query parameters order, index types,...) ?? Thanks for any advise. Thierry -- Linux every day, keeps Dr Watson away... http://gpc.sourceforge.net -- http://www.ulthar.net

Catalog stange behaviour
by Nicolas LAURANCE 04 Nov '02

04 Nov '02

Hello zopers, Here is my situation: 1-I have a collection of objects based on a Zclass (catalog aware) 2-I have a script to create new instances 3-One to modify existing instances 4-A script that update properties used by script 2 & 3. It manage_editPeoperties... And finishes with context.reindex_object() Everything works fine, but... When I update an object I get it twice in the Catalog list , why ? Bobobase_modification_time is not updated (it is a Fieldindex index) I have to manually update the Catalog for everything to get right again. Any idea ? Known bugs? Using Zope 2.5.1

PageTemplate ... dtml-comment
by Mark Gibson 04 Nov '02

04 Nov '02

What is the recommended way for commenting page templates? The <dtml-comment> in dtml was awkward, but it was readily apparent that the content between the tags was for comment only. Could use html comments , unless you don't want the commentary in the published html. How are you handling this? Mark

Hi, 1. am I going to physically create a folder in my zope server and the path to it is what is being reffered to as Base Path? Kindly furnish me with clear and coincise explanation. Re: [Zope] Data.fs grows rapidly in size and crashes Zope !!!

Looking at Z2.py would tell you exactly what requests are being made. As Chris pointed out, it might be that a change in the software causes normal read requests to change the database, which would explain the sudden growth. However, if somebody outside was able to figure out a method they could call remotely (either as anonymous or using a sniffed password) that writes to the database, they could do the same thing. Its only a hypothesis, what Chris suggested is probably more likely. > I guess to most useful thing I could ask is what information can I > provide that would help to get to the bottom of this? I'm sure the output of any logs would mean more to you (or somebody familiar with the application) then it would to use. Nonetheless, we might be able to theorize from some suspicious samples of the logs. I dunno. -Casey

zope & document management systems
by mark dufour 04 Nov '02

04 Nov '02

Hello all, Some people at my university have developed a free, LGPL'ed, modular Document Management System. About a year ago, because of some other project, they were so disgusted by the licensing scheme of Documentum that they decided they would try and create a free alternative. After a few months of work by several people, it's starting to look very good, and they are thinking about doing a first release within the next few months. I am thinking about writing a Zope plugin/extension for this Document Management System (excuse my terminology, I'm new to Zope,) that would enable its contents to be accessed/searched through uniformly with other content, using Zope's generic framework. But as I'm rather new to Zope, it's difficult to see what would be the most natural way of accomplishing this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Specifically, the following would be important features: -Users can upload documents and provide metadata which are subsequently copied into the DMS. -The metadata and document contents are indexed in the generic way, I believe it is called a ZCatalog :-) I see that a product called 'ExternalFile' provides an abstraction for accessing files external to Zope. Would it be possible to enhance this product for my purposes? Or would it be more natural to use some other product as a starting point? As a final question, does anyone know of an earlier attempt at creating something similar, but for another DMS? Any help in this is greatly appreciated. Thanks, -- Mark Dufour.
