Hi, New version of Jakarta Struts seem to have many time-saving and rapid development features for developers. Check out this oreilly article at http://www.onjava.com/pub/a/onjava/2002/10/30/jakarta.html?page=1 I'm still new to zope and learning from the online book. What are your comments on these 2 framework/platform? Anyone used both before? Harry __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I saw that too in my research. But I am not looking to authenticate users. The validation I seek is that which is built into Formulator but doesn't seem to work with TAL. Of much_greater_importance is getting the fields to render. In other words, after the visitor has filled out the form, I need to be able to call and use those fields. For example, how do I thank the visitor by name using TAL? How do I do the equivalent of this: <dtml-var your_name> TIA, beno >Hope this helps ;O) > >Chris > >-----Original Message----- >From: zpt-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zpt-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of beno >Sent: 30 October 2002 19:22 >To: zpt(a)zope.org >Subject: [ZPT] Formulator Problem > > >Hi; >I have the following code in a ZPT page: > ><table tal:define="form here/email_us_formulator" align=center> > <tr tal:define="yourname request/YourName|nothing"> > <th align="left"> > <font tal:attributes="size python:here.sizeCalc2(5,here.size())"><font >face="verdana"><b> > Your Name: > </b></font></font> > </th> > <td><input type="text" name="YourName" > tal:replace="structure >python:form.YourName.render(yourname)"> > </td> > </tr> >...etc. > >This renders like this: > ><table align="center"> > <tr> > <th align="left"> > <font size="4"><font face="verdana"><b> > Your Name: > </b></font></font> > </th> > <td><input size="20" value="" type="text" name="field_YourName" /> > </td> > </tr> >...etc. > >When the form is submitted, it goes to a page with the following code: > >Thank you, <p tal:replace="structure >python:here.email_us_formulator.YourName">YourName</p>! > >and renders like this: > >Thank you, <StringField instance at 8f2dec8>! > >What have I done wrong? >Furthermore, Formulator no longer validates at all for some reason. Does anyone know of a way to evaluate the meta tags in a HTML/DTML-Document within Zope? I would like to be able to use for example the value of the Metatag "Keywords" within DTML-Scripts. Please email your replies to nk(a)nkmail.com Thanks alot! Nic

Folderisch ZClasses import into 2.6.0 broken?
by Gidon Friedman 31 Oct '02

31 Oct '02

hi anybody successfully imported old 2.5-Objectmanager-ZClasses into the new Zope 2.6.0? with not-folderisch ones it's no problem, but it looks to me that the Folderisch Typs need the module Interface.iclass in it, and that's gone in 2.6. (a thread last week discussed that) until now it tried the following solutions: - edit the xml-export, remove the item with the bad module. but there are references to the removed item, and they don't like that. i tried to remove the references, but then the import fails because the datastructure of my XML-File ist now ...... Ralph had success with that. congratulations, i failed :-( - copy the iclass.py and supporting classes into the new instance well, that didn't succeed either. i guess that these old things don't play well with the new classes. - refactor the ZClasses into Python Products right, that i can do, but that will take time and probably break my old contents. an other ideas? somebody with an idea how to replace the references to Interface.iclass in the xml-export? gidon

Logging /error_log to disk?
by Jean Jordaan 31 Oct '02

31 Oct '02

Hi all I'm trying out Zope 2.6 for the first time, and I've discovered '<server>/error_log'. This is very cool, but can I get it to log these exceptions to a file on disk as well, where I can tail & grep it? -- Jean Jordaan http://www.upfrontsystems.co.za

Return ZPT with parameters
by Hedley Roos 31 Oct '02

31 Oct '02

Hi everyone The situation is: 1. A pagetemplate, say listInstances, lists hyperlinked instances. A hyperlink has the form http://foo/instances/1. 2. Clicking on said link takes one to ZPT editInstance. 3. ZPT editInstance has a submit button, name btnOK:method. In method btnOK I eventually return ZPT listInstances. However, listInstances does not display the new instance I have added. My code is currently: A) return self.index_html() This does work: B) return self.REQUEST.RESPONSE.redirect(self.index_html().absolute_url()) The problem with B is that I cannot pass parameters to the ZPT (I need to do this, but this is beyond the scope of the question). To summarize: I would like to use A and have ZPT listInstances display the newly added instance. BTW I use ZPatterns. Universities on Zope
by Bryan Capitano 31 Oct '02

31 Oct '02

I am interested in talking with people who have or are developing Zope-based solutions for Higher Education institutions like Universities. I am currently working with Oregon State University (USA) to explore how Zope might be appropriate at the institution-wide level. We are currently comparing Zope with other CMS products. My clients at OSU are particularly interested in: 1. How easy it will be to train non-technical staff to manage website content. 2. How well Zope will scale to hundreds of websites with hundreds-of-thousands of hits/year. I am familiar with the Zope literature on scalability and enterprise/clustering using ZEO. However, if anybody can share their experiences, or some brief tidbits of the projects they're working on, I would be very interested to hear. Thank you kindly, Bryan Capitano Bryan R. sort catalog results w/ table headers ?
by Nicolas LAURANCE 31 Oct '02

31 Oct '02

hello, here is my situation... I would like the headers of the table containing the results of a catalog query, to be reversable sorting. I'm not sure i'm clear, but just like in the FileLibrary example given w/ zope 2.5. I studied this example and tried to modify it to suit my need but... As it always starts a new query i get a new results sorted. Say I have a result from the Catalog from a complex query... when I sort w/ the headers I loose my filter, all records comme back. I don't know how to keep the parameters of the query (session ?) As well, I need a default query to apply (the last 20 modified) Everything works fine, but this. I am not very familiar of the new TAL language... at the moment I still develop mostly in DTML & python scripts. I think, I have a very standard situation, but found no info about that in my books, or the zope book, or the last 10,000 messages of this board.... any help appreciated

RE: [Zope] Zope and ESI, my problems are solved.
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 31 Oct '02

Hmm... wonder if ZC's PageDesign technology (http://cvs.zope.org/Products/PageDesign) will have anything to do with a Zope ESI story? PageDesign is a technology for composition of multiple media assets into a composite document (like, multiple widgets onto a page). This seems to be the kind of situation where you would have deferred assembly of the composite page from its pieces via ESI at the outside of the proxy layer (the client connection layer, where th Squid ESI patch code would live) - with tunable caching per slot. Just a guess as to one direction this might be taken... Sean -----Original Message----- From: Alec Munro [mailto:alec.munro@eoascientific.com] Sent: Thursday, October 31, 2002 7:41 AM To: zope Subject: [Zope] Zope and ESI, my problems are solved. Hi all, I just noticed the press release on Zope.org regarding Edge Side Includes in Zope with Squid. http://biz.yahoo.com/iw/021030/048171.html I posted in July looking for just this type of functionality, and now it seems Zope is going to cater to my needs (yet again). I am posting here to see if anyone knows how soon this is likely to be implemented. I imagine I won't be able to use it for the current project, but it could be quite useful in the near future. So anyone who can provide me with more information on details or timeframes, that would be fantastic. Thanks, Alec Munro _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )
