RE: [Zope] WISH LIST - idea of new, DTMLRelation object

It would be more convincing to do this, however, if PathIndexes would support an absolute path for the contents (and only the contents) of a specific folder (not incl. its children)... as of now, they cannot (only a hierarchy). You can create your own FieldIndexes on the path to accomplish the same goal, but without this modification, Catalog queries are not a 100% replacement for objectValues() and other ObjectManager methods... Rootfolder could be the object you want to be the root (of course) or in case of ZopeRoot, you get it via REQUEST.PARENT[0] However, before beating the dead horse, you should consider replacing your routine with a python script, which could also use ZCatalog in place of ObjectValues() - this saves Memory and time since not all Objects have to be activated. This approach would also help you to go the way from DTML to ZPT which is recommended. Greetings Tino For your --On Mittwoch, 9. install problem....solved! /newbie bulletin board
by Robert Nagle 10 Oct '02

10 Oct '02

Like a good citizen, I feel compelled to document the server install problem I had. (Thanks by the way to Mr. Hamid for clueing me about the problem). The problem was permissions and omissions in the documentation provided with zope 2.60beta 1. 1. The owner of the gzip file needs to be the user to run zope. 2. That zopeuser should also own the directory into which the zope zipped file will be unzipped. 3. The user who runs the ./start script should be the user that runs apache, not root or zopeuser. Actually by configuring zope with -u apacheuser -g apachegroup , it already puts the right permissions in place, so that the user of the start script is apacheuser. Although I understand that the documentation is running after a moving target (I am myself a technical writer), I am finding that the documentation in the zipped file doesn't mention newer and more direct installation alternatives. I found Regebro's document on http://www.zope.org/Members/regebro/Zope_and_Apache to be unusually helpful. I was wondering. I hate to clutter this mailing list with newbie problems. Have you ever thought about setting up bulletin board space dedicated to typical newbie problems (of which my own is a pathetic example). I found, for example, that the gentoo user forums http://forums.gentoo.org/ do an incredible job of documenting user problems and solutions and separating newbie problems with other kinds of problems. (I might have forum space to contribute...) It would probably be better as a forum rather than a mailing list (which are less visible on the web). rj Robert Nagle Technical Writer, Trainer & Linux Aficionado Houston, Texas 77083 www.idiotprogrammer.com

I have lost my context :-(

Hi guys, Yeah the context is gone and it's NOT funny :-) Well I get the famous error: global name 'context' is not defined in a small script that tests for what stylesheet to use ... Searching the archives only reveals and old mail from Dieter saying that it might be caused by an old version of Python. Zope, CMF, WebDAV +Windows' Network Place and versioning.
by Knut Meidal 10 Oct '02

10 Oct '02

Greetings! I have been playing with Zope and CMF. Scavenged an old HP Workstation, a B132L with PA-RISC processor, little RAM and a small disk(2.1GB). Got Debian Linux installed, along with debs of Zope, Zope-CMF. (PostgreSQL too, in case I ever figure out how to move my data in there. Hints appreciated.) I now have a test-CMF site running. I have created a few folders and users, uploaded a few files, published and played around. I saw that Zope-CMF supported WebDAV. And I saw the light. My great vision was to create a Windows "Network Place" to read/write to Zope directly from Windows. This way, I envisioned, I could have people use familiar tools to save documents to a familiar environment. While at the same time, we could attach some metadata to the items, and use versioning between files, with full accounting on who edited what file, when, and possibly keeping track of several versions of the SAME FILE, in the SAME PLACE using the SAME Filename. It almost works. I can create "Network Places", save documents to the Zope folders. Only thing missing is the ability to have Zope versioning on files created in this manner. Can it be done? Anyone else tried this approach? Experiences? Good? Bad? Do's and DON'Ts? Tips, tricks? PostgreSQL pointers? KnutM

VHM and RewriteRule Problem
by Christian Kasprowicz 09 Oct '02

09 Oct '02

Hi all, I'm quite new to zope, and trying to do a virtual host mapping with apache. I've the Rewrite Module working, and trying to do the following(in the .htaccess- file): RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/(.*)$ http://127.0.0.1:8080/VirtualHostBase/http/www.mydomain.de:80/Chris/mydo main.de [L,P] Also, I tried without the [L,P]. it just shows the directory index of the webserver- not zope. If I try it with /* ... I get the Zope-Site, but with the full path (./VirtualHostBase/http/...) Can anyone help?!? Thanks, Chris

Unenlightened XUF question
by Ken 09 Oct '02

09 Oct '02

OK, so I'm a bit slow... After reading the "Unenlightened" guide, I installed a totally vanilla XUF, using ZODB authorization and properties. I chose cookie authentication. I placed the XUF one level above the folder to protect, which should only be viewed by 'members'. Logging on as a member, I got the ugly, 'basic' popup. Not the cool, docLogin I so covet... I thought I was getting cookies for free. <stupid question> Do I have to 'do something' for this to work? </stupid question> What's missing? Thanks, Ken
