Re: [Zope] Zope & Gimp & Win32

Joseph, At this point, I'm most interested in creating buttons, banners, and other graphic elements for some web-creating tools we're developing. From what I can see from the documentation for PIL and DevIL, it's possible to do some of this, but they don't seem to have the scope of features that the world of Gimp/Photoshop/Paint Shop Pro offer. I could be wrong, though. If anyone has examples on their website of using PIL or DevIL for sophisticated web graphic work that involves creating new images, I'd love to check it out. For ex, the simplest thing I want to do is to let a user type in text & choose between several colors and styles and then generate a bunch of buttons, which might be bevelled, plus a page banner graphic. Can I do this in PIL w/o driving myself nuts? If so, do you have any exs of what the code to do so looks like? I've seen posts where someone claimed that you can do this in PIL but I've never seen any examples & didn't see a relatively painless way to do it explained in the (very brief) documentation. Thanks, Anders >>> "Joseph Griffin" <jgriffin(a)pclnet.net> 10/09/02 02:21PM >>> Anders, Is there a specific reason that you're using Gimp? PIL and DevIL are two other libs that I have ran across for dynamic image generation (and PyOpenGL of course). Sounds neat. Hi Mark, context.sendMail(context,context.REQUEST) should work. This will pass the proper namespace to the DTML Method. Bob Corriher P-Wave Inc.

Adding __setitem__ to a formulator field?
by Jeff Kowalczyk 09 Oct '02

09 Oct '02

there are __getitem__() and get_value() methods for formulator fields. I'd like to experiment with __setitem__ and set_value(). The error message from my naive implementation in field.py is as follows: security.declareProtected('Access contents information', '__setitem__') def __setitem__(self, key, value): self[key] = value self._p_set_changed(1) return value >>> app.Formulator.myForm.stringfield1.__setitem__('required',1) Traceback (most recent call last): File "<interactive input>", line 1, in ? AttributeError: __setitem__ >>> Does anyone know what I need to do to add __setitem__ (and later on, set_value()) to formulator fields? Thanks.

running Yihaw on Zope 2.5.1?
by will.sexton＠duke.edu 09 Oct '02

I'm new to Zope (and Python) but I'm trying to get up to speed on it. I'm particularly interested at the moment in evaluating Yihaw, though I've probably gotten ahead of myself. Anyway, I am experimenting with Zope 2.5.1 (the most recent stable release) on a Windows XP box, and downloaded Yihaw and added it. Now, when I try to add a "Yihaw folder" anywhere on the Zope isntallation, I get the error message + stack trace that I include below my sig. Apologies if I'm missing something (else) obvious, but I'm wondering if I'm getting the error because I'm trying to run Yihaw in Zope 2.5.1 (the Yihaw CHANGES file says it's maintained on 2.2.5), and if there's anything that I can do to run it in 2.5.1. We want to look at the latest version of Zope, but are thinking about Yihaw as a solution for a particular project. I tried to find something in this list's archives about this question, but apologies again if I'm missing something obvious. xml-rpc timeout
by Mark Roach 09 Oct '02

09 Oct '02

I have a zope instance on a windows server that I am calling via xml-rpc from an external method on a zope server on a linux box. I am getting a strange error that I cannot reproduce from the interpreter: Error Type: Timeout Error Value: Recv timed out I didn't see any reference to a timeout in the xmlrpclib.py file, in fact I only found that error message as part of the WebMail product which I had installed for testing a while back: lib/python/Products/WebMail/timeoutsocket.py: raise Timeout("Recv timed out") any thoughts/suggestions? could this timeoutsocket.py somehow be affecting the xml-rpc calls of an external method? It didn't seem likely to me. Is there a limit to how long an external method can take? (I guess I should mention that I am using Zope 2.5.1 on debian and windows NT) Thanks, Mark Roach

I mainly wanted to prevent users from displaying the originals: I'm not Google yet ;-) For now I have removed any references to the DocumentFiles, so the problem is dealt with, but I am still wondering: Where is the index_html method of a DocumentFile, so I could maybe change it to a redirect? Thanks, Ken

newbie installation problem Zope-2.2.5 on ppc linux

hello - can anyone offer some advice on this error message, from a new installation of Zope-2.2.5 on YellowDog Linux 2.3 ppc ? (stderr.txt pasted below) the Zope server was compiled from source, by root, and built in /usr/local/Zope-2.2.5 I'm new to Linux, but is it saying that the permissions on this directory are set wrongly ? contacting http://localhost:8080 shows that the server hasn't started and I got the same message when I tried the Mac OS X binaries (in OS 10.1.5) to try and find out what was going wrong TIA cheers Richard ------ 2002-10-09T13:57:38 INFO(0) ZServer HTTP server started at Wed Oct 9 14:57:38 2002 Hostname: localhost.localdomain Port: 8080 ------ 2002-10-09T13:57:38 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Wed Oct 9 14:57:38 2002 Hostname: localhost.localdomain Port: 8021 ------ 2002-10-09T13:57:38 INFO(0) ZServer Monitor Server (V1.8.4.1) started on port 8099 Traceback (innermost last): File "/usr/local/Zope-2.2.5-src/z2.py", line 710, in ? pf = open(PID_FILE, 'w') IOError: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/local/Zope-2.2.5-src/var/Z2.pid'

finding the reason why my Zope crashes
by Reinoud van Leeuwen 09 Oct '02

09 Oct '02

Hi, I have some trouble with my zope test server. I am trying to decide whether to use Silva or Plone, but with both products, my Zope site crashes reproduceable. (in both products while adding a site). I use Zope Version (Zope 2.5.1 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.3, freebsd4) Python Version 2.1.3 (#2, Oct 1 2002, 17:24:12) [GCC 2.95.3 20010315 (release) [FreeBSD]] System Platform freebsd4 SOFTWARE_HOME /usr/local/zope/zope/lib/python On FreeBSD 4.5 RELEASE. (Zope is running behind Apache with PCGI. It is started through zopectl). I've tried "Debug a spinning Zope" (http://www.zope.org/Members/4am/debugspinningzope) But as soon as I try *anything* after attaching the gdb to zope, it just stops, and even gdb seems to be confused: (gdb) quit The program is running. Quit anyway (and detach it)? (y or n) y Detaching from program: /usr/bin/python2.1, process 13429, thread 1 ptrace: No such process. (gdb) (the only way to quit my debuggin session is to kill it (!!)) I can not find any traces of the crash in Zope log files, only this line in /var/log/messages: Oct 8 15:52:21 zopetest /kernel: pid 13429 (python), uid 25933: exited on signal 11 Does anyone have tips on finding what is wrong here? -- __________________________________________________ "Nothing is as subjective as reality" Reinoud van Leeuwen reinoud.v(a)n.leeuwen.net http://www.xs4all.nl/~reinoud __________________________________________________
