ACL password encryption
by Rob 07 Oct '02

07 Oct '02

(I have seen a few posts regarding this but with no replies indicating a solution) If I have a user folder with existing users, then later choose to encrypt the passwords and update existing passwords, I can no longer log in as those existing users. If I create a new user _after_ choosing to encrypt passwords, I can log in as that user. I don't see anything in the collector about this, either. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Faith Hill - Exclusive Performances, Videos & More http://faith.yahoo.com

[announce] First meeting of TriZPUG (NC, USA)
by Tom Bryan 07 Oct '02

07 Oct '02

The Triangle Zope/Python User Group (TriZPUG) will hold its first meeting this Tuesday, October 8, at 6:15 p.m. near Raleigh/Durham, NC. We will be starting at VERITAS Software, who has kindly permitted us to use their meeting room (directions to VERITAS below). Geoff Davis will give a talk on Zope and Plone, starting promptly at 6:30. After the talk, we will all be going out to a local restaurant (still being selected on the trizpug mailing list). Everyone should bring a (no more than) one page description of current and past work related to Python and/or Zope and any suggestions for topics for future TriZPUG talks. We will be handing these around the table so that everyone can get to know each other's Python/Zope background and interests quickly. Hope to see you there! Title: An Introduction to Plone: Web Content Management Made Easy ================================================================= Plone is an open source toolkit for building web portals using Zope. Plone provides a fully functional and highly customizable portal out of the box and gives you built-in security, content storage, search capabilities, automated content generation, a skinnable user interface, content management workflow, RSS syndication, user discussions, and more. I will give an overview of Plone's capabilities and provide some pointers on where to learn more. If you are interested in learning more about Zope, Plone is a great place to begin. If you already know Zope, Plone is definitely something you should know about. Directions to VERITAS: ====================== VERITAS Software, 2530 Meridian Parkway, in Research Triangle Park. The Meridian Business Park is off of Highway 55, near its intersection with Interstate 40. >From I-40, take exit 278. At the bottom of the exit, turn LEFT onto Highway 55. Turn left at the next light onto Meridian Parkway. Travel approximately one-half mile, to building 2530 on the RIGHT. Turn RIGHT, and park in the back. VERITAS is on the first floor. Go to the Blue Ridge Conference Room, located past the elevators For more about TriZPUG: ======================= Web page http://dev.zope.org/Members/tbryan/TriZPUG/FrontPage Mailing list http://starship.python.net/mailman/listinfo/triangle-zpug

Session Timeouts
by Dennis Allison 07 Oct '02

07 Oct '02

I'm forever forgetting to reset session timeouts when I restart Zope. First, is there a way to change the default without brain surgery? The 20 minute default value that's used is deep within the __init__ for Transience objects. Is there a way to reset the timeout without reinitializing and killing all active transient objects? I looked at the code and it does not seem possible. Unfortunate, in a way, since resetting the timeout value kills all existing session sub-objects.

You might also take a look at JRedirector, which sticks redirection code at the top of standard_error_message to send you to the redirector. It can give you a pretty 404 message if needed, and redirect old urls to new paths. Pretty slick product. I like it. JRedirector: http://www.dataflake.org/software/jredirector Oh, and I'll note that you shouldn't follow the README.txt directions exactly. In order for the needed dtml code to display in some browsers, Jens put spaces between the less than sign and the dtml tag name. The correct code is: <dtml-if expr="error_type == 'NotFound'"> <dtml-call expr="redirector_object.redirect( REQUEST )"> </dtml-if> I initially copied and pasted the code into standard_error_message. That misunderstanding cost me several dozen hair follicles and more time than my pride allows me to admit! standard_err_message ques... repost
by AM 07 Oct '02

Hi, I posted this about 4 days back but did not get a resolution or any ideas as to what I might be doing wrong. I was trying out the suggestions regarding custom error handling mentioned @ http://www.zope.org/Members/JohnC/StandardErrorMessage and put a simple <dtml-if "error_type=='NotFound'"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect(errors.e404.absolute_url())"> </dtml-if> at the top of my standard_error_message. Unfortunately when I try to hit a non-existant page I do not get redirected to the error page, I still get the Debugging Notice.... blah blah blah If I put a <dtml-var error_type> at the top I do get the NotFound at the top of the error page. Why is this not being handled.?? WebDav - Win2K problem
by Ross 07 Oct '02

07 Oct '02

Hi all I'm having a weird problem trying to use Zope WebDAV with Win2K / IE6. I've seen others with similar but not quite the same in the archives. I create a connection in 'My Network Places'. Everything looks good initially, I can copy objects in both directions but when I try to download the same object a second time I get a Windows popup titled 'Error Copying File or Folder' and text 'Cannot create another system semaphore'. Uploading multiple times works every time. Zope is on port 8080. I also have WebDAV running on Apache with mod_dav on port 80. That works well with the same Win2K client. This had me thinking it was a Zope problem but ... I can connect to http://zope.org and download objects from the root multiple times okay. This points to my particular Zope installation. I get the same result with two different servers running Zope and two different Win2K clients. Zope Version: (Zope 2.5.1 (source release, python 2.1, linux2), python 2.1.3, linux2). Any ideas? SSL support

Hi, some questions about crypted passwords: 1.) Is it possible to get the passwords encrypted which are transmitted through the web _without_ using SSL? 2.) Is it possible to do the login in a secure area (to get them transmitted encrypted) and use this login in the remaining, standard-http site? tia, Tobias Diese E-Mail enthält vertrauliche und/oder rechtlich geschützte Informationen. VHM, ZClass double entry - desperate
by Milos Prudek 07 Oct '02

07 Oct '02

I'm desperate. ZClass instances generate doubled entries in ZCatalog under VHM. ZClass inherits ZObject, CatalogPathAwareBase, ZObjectManager. The first set of entries is created through Find Objects ZMI tab. These entries display absolute path in Object Identifier column, but they return correct, i.e. relative to VHM root, path through ZCatalog.getPath(). That's ok. The second entry gets created because of the following line in index_html DTM Method of ZClass: <dtml-call "propertysheets.data.manage_changeProperties(readers=readers+1)"> This double entry displays relative path in Object Identifier column and in ZCatalog.getPath(). Not a problem per se, but every instance is recorded twice in ZCatalog, and that's the bummer. If I remove the line above from index_html of the ZClass, double entry is not created. If I put it back, double entry is created. It would seem that the problem is isolated. Therefore I tried to replicate the error with a fresh ZClass: - create product p - create zclass z, with CatalogPathAware - create folders a,b,c anywhere - add propertysheet ps - add property display(int) to ps - add method index_html which call nethod inc_display - add method inc_display - add ZCatalog Cat - find objects of type: 'z' - run index_html and see if double entry is created. Result: double entry is not created. I'm unable to reproduce the problem on a fresh ZClass. The original ZClass is so complex that it would take many hours to decompose it. What could it be?? -- Milos Prudek
