Can somebody please guide me through the > install process in WindowsXP? > I've not tried an installations on Windows, but I suspect that the following Linux cautions apply-- First, be sure you have the right version of Python. With Zope 2.5.1 you need Python 2.1.3. Later versions won't work. You need to install two products not one. I use MySQL-python-0.9.1 and ZMySQLDA-2.0.8. One is the python interface to MySQL and the other is the database adaptor for Zope. Be sure you install both using the version of Python you are using to run Zope--otherwise the wrong libraries are updated.

Dealing with non-ASCII strings?
by Jean Jordaan 02 Oct '02

02 Oct '02

Hi there In the data that we have to work with, there are names in French, Turkish, German, Greek, etc. A sample string, when printed from Python, is: 'Rabia-r\xddza Bi\xe7en \xf6grenci Yurdu.G\xf6r\xfckle' We'd like to store this data in LDAP and in Zope. Questions: - How do we find out what the current encoding of the strings are? Guess? - Say we decide it's Latin-7. How do we convert from the current string to Unicode, taking into account the fact that the source is taken to be Latin-7? - Do we need to move to Zope 2.6 in order to cope with such strings? -- Jean Jordaan Upfront Systems http://www.upfrontsystems.co.za

EDI and Zope.
by Felipe E. Barousse Boué 02 Oct '02

02 Oct '02

Hi: We just got into a situation where we need to receive EDIFACT EDI formatted data into a to be deployed system. The idea is to get that EDI data, convert it to XML and then handle everything else needed in XML within Zope. Later on, the reverse process will need to be done: Zope-XML -> EDI -> Remote 3rd party system. The question is, has any of you has had any experience working with EDI and Zope (or Python for that matter). ? Are there any public domain modules, code or components, besides the obvious XML related Zope products that could be of use in this proyect.? Any suggestions, comments and ideas are more than welcome. Thanks in advance and Best regards. Felipe Barousse Bufete Consultor de Mexico - Piensa Technologies www.piensa.com

RE: [Zope] DCOracle2

when I was calling the function from a shell it was importing DCOracle2 from the /usr/lib/python calling it from within zope is importing DCOracle2 from $ZOPE_HOME/bin/python It appears that these two copies of DCOracle2 are different. So I solved the problem by copying DCOracle2 from the standalone python into $ZOPE_HOME/lib/python2.1/site-packages. So far it is working. I hope this will not be a problem down the road. I would be very interested to understand why these two copies behave differently?? Thanks for your response Bogdan, -Hara -----Original Message----- From: Bo M. Oracle environment is for Zope. 2. your database is in /oracle/network/admin/tnsnames.ora 3. Set up "Stupid log"? -- Regards, Bogdan Science is to computer science as hydrodynamics is to plumbing.

MySQL Database not working well with Zope
by Stephen Fung 02 Oct '02

I'm new to setting up my own Zope and MySQL Servers, so I'm not sure if I just didn't configure it correctly or what, but I'm now getting errors when I try to connect to my MySQL server. I'm currently using Zope 2.5.1 and MySQL Max 3.23.51 with the myodbc-2.50.39-nt package, and connect to the MySQL server using the Z ODBC Database Adapter Product. The root of my Zope installation is J:\Zope_2-5-1\Ricepail_Com. It seems to be set up correctly, as it was working fine at first. When I entered some data into a table I created, it worked fine with zope. However, when I tried to add longer entries into a cell of type "text" (smaller, 2-sentence entries worked fine) the database stopped working, and I'd get the following error page: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: sql.error Error Value: None -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Troubleshooting Suggestions The URL may be incorrect. The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect. A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error. I think that the error has to do with the Product I installed and the size of the entry, because when I delete the row with the long entry and restart Zope, everything works fine again. I've tried altering what I entered into the database, changing the length of several of the values, but it still doesn't work when I make the "text" entry more than about 100 characters. When I go to a command-line interface, and try to show the contents of the database table, everything seems to look correct. Plone Newbie Seeks Help
by John Clayton 02 Oct '02

02 Oct '02

Hi, I am a Plone/Zope Newbie and have some questions that I hope someone out there will be able to help me with. 1. I have created a new tabs on my site as per the instructions at http://plone.org/documentation/CustomizingPlone but when I select it, the tab isn't displayed in the selected colour in the same way that the Welcome page is for instance. I can see from the page source that my new page does not use the selected class, but I don't know how get it to do this. 2. Another new tab (which incidently is displayed correctly and was created in the same way) is for teams (I'm developing a web site for my sons youth football club), and I have created the following Folder structure; Root Folder safc (CMF Site which I think was created as a Plone site) teams (Plone Folder) u9 (Plone Folder) u10 (Plone Folder) I have a DTML Method called navigation in /Root Folder/safc containing <ul> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> <li> <a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a> </li> </dtml-in> </ul> as per the ZopeZoo example in the ZopeBook. My index_html (DTML Method) in /Root Folder/safc/teams is <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id> <dtml-var document_title></h2> <p> This is the <dtml-var document_id> Document in the <dtml-var title_and_id> Folder. </p> <dtml-var navigation> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> If I visit the teams folder I get an undefined error type with a value of portal_url not found in 'portal_url', at line 7, column 1 I have tried changing my navigation object to list 'Plone Folder' but this doesn't make any difference to the failure. How should I be creating a list of Plone Folders? And have I created them in the correct place? 4. I was intending to use a free Zope host (ie http://www.nipltd.net/Free or http://www.freezope.org/) but they do not have Plone installed. Will I be able to install Plone on either of these hosts, or are there other free hosts that I could use? Many Thanks, John. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx

VirtualHostMonster
by Dag Nygren 02 Oct '02

Hi, I have been banging my head against this too long now, I have to ask: Scenario: - Apache as frontend with ProxyPass rules - ZServer should serve a certain address, say http://www.xx.com/zopeit from a certain sub"floder" in the Zope hierarchy. Sounds easy doesn't it ? But for my life I cannot get the ProxyPass /VHM settings right. Any takers ? BTW. Is there any good documentation on VHM ? It took me a long time to figure out that VirtualHostBase is a literal and shouldn't be replaced with anything as I tried to do. Have still not figured out what VirtualHostRoot does ;-( Seems like the biggest problem for a newbie with Zope is the very rudimentary documentations on the Products (and the terminology, which is quite "different") BRGDS -- Dag Nygren email: dag(a)newtech.fi Oy Espoon NewTech Ab phone: +358 9 8024910 Träsktorpet 3 fax: +358 9 8024916 02360 ESBO Mobile: +358 400 426312 FINLAND

RE: [Zope] MySQL Database not working well with Zope

Ummm... you appear to be missing the C++ compiler or the setup.py is referencing a compiler different from the one you have in place. Look at the setup.* files and modify them as appropriate. This from a quick google on "cl.exe" gives a bit more information. It's from the archives of this list. -dra [Donnal Walter] > Using Python 2.2 on Win2K I get the following error message > when executing "% python setup.py build" from the > Python22/Lib/site-packages/StandaloneZODB-1.0 directory: >> <snip> > creating build\temp.win32-2.2 > creating build\temp.win32-2.2\Release > cl.exe /c /nologo /Ox /MD /W3 /GX -IC:\Python22\include > /TcExtensionClass/src/ExtensionClass.c > /Fobuild\temp.win32-2.2\Release\ExtensionClass.obj > error: command 'cl.exe' failed: No such file or directory >> Do I need to install something else first? Thanks. cl.exe is the name of Microsoft's C/C++ compiler. Zope is tested with MSVC (MicroSoft Visual C++) version 6 on Windows. If you don't have MSVC6, that explains it. If you do have MSVC6, there's a world of other possibilities, but one step at a time. From: "Joseph Griffin" <jgriffin(a)pclnet.net> > >It probably means that the compiler is looking for all the files it needs for >the compilation and did not find them. Database table problem
by Renier Leenders 02 Oct '02

02 Oct '02

Hello, I think this question is OT but nevertheless. I don't know where to put my question elsewhere. I use Zope as some kind of 'frontend' for an relational database. I want to use the database to store laws. The idea is to retrieve articles with "SELECT FROM law WHERE article_number >= x and article_number <= y". Unfortunately not all law articles are numbered with 1, 2, 3, etc. If they were I could define article_number as integer. But some articles are numbered with 1, 2, 2a ... 13ab etc. When I define the article_number as char and I retrieve I get a result with an sorting order like this: 1,10,11,11a,11b,12, 13ab ... 2a, 20, 21,21a. I could not find a database who supports "natural sort". Has someone an idea to work around this problem with Zope? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
