SiteRoot Base and copying/pasting

My ISP is using Apache to point a couple of my domains to a couple of my zope folders, then I'm setting a SiteRoot Base in those folders to those domains so my urls look right (some of those subfolders were breeding like crazy in the URL). I noticed that I can't copy something under one SiteRoot and paste it outside of that SiteRoot. Why is that? Is that a permissions issue or is that a result of the fact that the URLs have been rewritten by the SiteRoot? I've also noticed that I need to re-login for each "SiteRooted" section. Thanks! Since you are using zctl.py, which I haven't used, I'm not sure if I can comment, though it might be related to the options within it? This is likely a problem with a startup script. Is there a reason why you are tied to this specific old, binary version of Zope for this particular install? Did this, but couldn't find the ports! I also ran *netstat -n -a* and port 8021 wasn't there. What kind of release are you running. Have you looked at your startup script? Also, make sure you have the lsof package installed on your RH72 box (this lists open file descriptors and sockets) and run 'losf | grep TCP' to see what ports are being used on your box by various applications. Accessing an External Executable

This can be difficult, especially if the depth of the subdivisions can be unbounded. Sometimes it is possible to use a computed column as the sort index. This is easiest when there are just numbers, no letters. If the numbers have no subdivisions, as you seem to be showing, and ther can only be a single letter after the number, I would probably try to sort using computed columns like this (using imaginary functions - look up to see what string handling functions your database supports): Select substring(article_number, 1, len(article_number)-1) as main_index, right(article_number,1) as secondary_index, article_title Order by main_index, secondary_index For a more complicated numbering system, you may still be able to do something similar using database functions. Otherwise you would have to compute the sort order with Python. With numbers like 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.1.2, I like to multiply each division be a corresponding power of ten and add them up to get a single sort index. 1.2.3 would become 1*10^2 + 2*10^1 + 3 = 123 , for example. Note that this is not exactly like just removing the separaators because the trailing number might be missing (e.g., 1.2).Again, whether you can do this depends on the database. Some people like to precompute the sort order and store it in the database. I try to avoid this, but once in a while it can be useful. Cheers, Tom P

DCOracle2 and Oi9 RC2, wrong number values in select

Hello I'm using DCOracle2 with a Oracle9i RC2 database. I was a bit shocked when I tried to retrive some data from my db. Alle number right to the decimal point are lost! So I played a bit with the different datatypes. I stored in each column a value off 100.50. So Oracle rounded the integers to 101, which is fine. But as you can see in the following table, the other results are wrong. What works is a: SELECT TO_CHAR(column_name) from table. The funny thing is also, that storing the data with a "ZSQL Method" works fine... With Zope 2.5.1 you need Python 2.1.3. Later versions won't work. You need to install two products not one. I use MySQL-python-0.9.1 and ZMySQLDA-2.0.8. One is the python interface to MySQL and the other is the database adaptor for Zope. Be sure you install both using the version of Python you are using to run Zope--otherwise the wrong libraries are updated.
