Zope Help
by Rares Vernica 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hi, I a kind of biginnerwith Zope. I'm still reading books and documentation. I'm tring to do something and the Zope help system doesn't help me at all. The problem is with all those objects, without any help for them. For example, I wanted to use "REQUEST.SESSION" but I don't know what kind of object it is, what methods does it have. Again, the same problem with "ZClass". On the other part I use (as I saw in an example) "manage_editProperties" method, where is it documented? I don't like at all this BLIND PROGRAMMING! Do you? Thanks in advance, Rares _________________________________________________________________ Join the worlds largest e-mail service with MSN Hotmail. http://www.hotmail.com

Permissions in Zope Product
by Bo M. Maryniuck 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hello. I would like to temporarily create and delete different objects in Zope Product, using "manage_add..." methods of several objects, such as DB connections, ZSQLMethod, DTMLDocument etc. But my ZP works only with permissions of the manager. I would like to allow it for whole world, not even for authorized users. What I should add into the class to avoid leak of permissions? Thank You much. -- Sincerely yours, Bogdan M. UserFolder and errors after owner of an object is deleted
by Heimo Laukkanen 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hi, I just noticed a funny behaviour, if I have a user in userfolder that has created a set of page templates and later I destroy that user - all his / her templates stop working and begin to complain, for example, 'you don't have rigths to access title in this context'. Of course errors disappear when objects are either owned by new user or user, named like old user, is created. Is there any good reason for something like this happening? A bug in security mechanism? oops! over-restricted access to part of my zope server....
by Greg Conway 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hi all, Whilst (ahem) trying to restrict access to part of my Zope Server to certain IP addresses, I've inadvertently locked myself out of this section! Surely as the admin of the entire Server I can overwrite this somehow? I was following these instructions: http://www.zope.org/Members/muesli/AuthByAddress Everything was okay until I did this: Now restrict access to your new role in the standard way: Deselect all the checkboxes under Acquire permission settings?. There should be a column on the right for your new role. Check the permissions for Access contents information, Search ZCatalog, Use Database Methods, and View. Click the Change button to save your changes. I say everything was okay, it wasn't restricting access - anybody could still visit these pages. So I Deselected ALL the checkboxes under "Aqcuire permissions settings" - after assigning the 4 mentioned permissions to my "RestrictedAccess" role - and hey presto! cannot get back in. Whilst I set a blank password, it won't let me back in with it!! ????!!!! So if anybody could possibly tell me how I might override whatever I have done here, I'd be most grateful! :) Regards, Greg Conway. I am setting up a Zope application on a new box and am having a problem with external methods. I can run the method from the shell (logged in as user "zope") with no problems, but the method will not run from the ZMI or anywhere else from inside Zope. Anyone have any ideas? Kevin

Re: [Zope] problem in using Zcatalog : Help needed
by Hamzat Kamal 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hi All, I have this problem in using ZCatalog. I have the Zcatalog and the folders that contained the DTML Documents in the root. |-root |--Zcat_Index_1_Dtml_Doc |--news(folder) |---article1(folder) |----x1(DTML Doc) |----xn(DTML Doc) |---article2(folder) |----x1(DTML Doc) |----xn(DTML Doc) |--news1(folder) |---article1(folder) |----x1(DTML Doc) |----xn(DTML Doc) |---article2(folder) |----x1(DTML Doc) |----xn(DTML Doc) What surprise me was that it shows the absolute url when I did not include _.getitem(mm,1) but display Nothing when included. <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('mm', ZopeTime().toZone('GMT+1').strftime('%d%m%y'))">
<dtml-in "Zcat_Index_1_Dtml_Doc(id=mm)"> <dtml-var expr="_.getitem(mm,1)[0:400]">...

 More
</dtml-in>
Also I will like to know how to use pathindex just the way i used 'id' to enable me limit the result to those DTML Documents that have the same id and pathindex. I will appreciate any idea that help to solve this problem. Thanks. ===== Hamzat kamaldeen Ishola Dnet Systems Limited. 223 Ikorodu Road, Lagos.
