Unzipping question
by Karen Roth 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hi, again I'm a newbie to Zope/Python and have a small question that I haven't had too much luck in solving on the web. I have a setup where someone uploads a zip file onto my server, but I need to have it be automatically unzipped. I'm 99% sure this can be done with Python scripts, I'm just not sure how since I haven't done that much work in Python to this date. Is there anyone that can point me in the right direction? A tutorial someone knows of possibly? Thanks so much. ********* Karen Roth Rochester Institute of Technology

External Method reloading
by DA Loeffler 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Is there some magic incantation I can call that will cause all my External Methods to reload themselves? I have a number of External Methods that act as factories for classes defined externally, all of which are subclassed from a single base class, and when I change this base class I have to reload each method separately, which is irritating. Does anyone know a workaround for this? David Loeffler University of Bristol

<dtml-elif> problem
by Tom Germaine 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hi All: I am trying to download files (with standardized filenames) to specific subdirectories with a form that calls a dtml document for processing, but the code breaks at the dtml-elif phrase: -------- <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title></h2> <dtml-let fname="_.string.split(myfile.filename,'\\')[-1]"> <dtml-let filename="_.string.split(fname,'.html')[0]"> <dtml-if expr="filename[3:6]=='do_'"><dtml-let dir="do_"> <dtml-elif expr="filename[3:6]=='aa_'"><dtml-let dir="aa_"> <dtml-else><dtml-let dir="vth"> <dtml-with avc> <dtml-call expr="dir.manage_addDTMLDocument(filename,mytitle)"> </dtml-with> </dtml-let> </dtml-if> </dtml-let> </dtml-let> <dtml-var showFiles> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ------- with error message: Unexpected tag, for tag <dtml-elif expr="filename[3:6]=='aa_'"> However, the code function ok if dtml-elif and dtml-else lines are omitted. I cannot understand why and would appreciate any solutions. Squishdot Authentication Question...
by JBeard＠porternovelli.com 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

This should be a simple one, can't quite get it yet.... I have an internal squishdot site running and I want to give users the ability to post comments anonymously. I've looked through the permission & security settings but can't figure out how to turn this on, any advice? [fyi, I considered posting directly to squishdot mailing list, but recent comments were over a week old, so I thought my response could be quicker here]

Good realtime chat / whiteboard applications to be used with Zope?
by Heimo Laukkanen 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

Hi, this is a question related to the intranet thread. Does anyone of you have any good examples or experiences of good realtime chat or whiteboard applications that could be used with Zope? If you have been using something, what has been the setup and how has it worked. Here are some thougths without the whiteboard. 1) IRC-server + java irc-client This could be a nice way of doing things. Company's internal irc-server and you could connect into it via browser - or instant messenger that support IRC. Server would throw logs into the Zope and archive those in similar fashion like blog entrys. Whiteboard could then be another application ,applet, that only does the whiteboard part of it. IRC benefits is the possibility to use also other clients than browser and take part into discussions even though you are also doing something else. Bots etc. are also nice bonus, since engineers could write AI bots that diagree to everything and agree to payraise discussions ,-) Questions: - Good and easy to maintain irc-servers? - Good java irc-client? 2) Jabber Is this a dead idea? Iäm not that familiar with Jabber that I could actually say anything - but there seem to be a lot of people exited about Jabber. For me the instant messaging has never been anything important and in this application Jabber would be used in a conference mode - which is just like irc. And there is jabber.py library to access Jabber from python. Whiteboards and chats: ---------------------- I just downlaoded BabylonChat from ( http://www.visopsys.org/andy/babylon/index.html ) and was instantly impressed about it. It is written in Java, seems to work and can be used as an applet or application. I saw other software also on freshmeat and did some searches on google. Seems that chat and whiteboard are very popular terms in many pages. Now my question is, does anybody else use some other application for the same thing? What are your experiences? Others: http://www.duke.edu/~java20/jaws/ http://www.webponent.com/ - Commecial approx. $250 What else? ps. watching Sphere DVD now. Somehow there is a underwater / alien theme going on in the movies I take to my hands from my DVD-shelves. ,-) -huima

Newbie type questions about the REQUEST object
by Russell Hires 05 Aug '02

05 Aug '02

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, These are very simple questions, for my simple brain. ;-) I've been playing with the REQUEST object, and I see that I can set a use the mysterious REQUEST.set as so: <dtml-var "REQUEST.set('test2', 'test_Value')"> and put its value back out to the world like this: this is the request value: <dtml-var test2> My current question is how to get the value to "stick" as it were, so that I can come back and get it later. As it is above the value is only available for the current page (which, in this case, is the action part of a form from another dtml method). How do I use it in other pages/methods? I've read the Zope book about creating a guestbook, but I want to break it down to its simplest form so that I can understand how to keep the value once it's in there. For instance, I've gone through the Job Board Tutorial, and see that there is a relationship between the Class/Product, and the REQUEST.set syntax, the only difference being that the second item doesn't have single quotes around it. I tried to take the quotes off, but I get an error about that value not being available... Thanks for helping me understand this! ZMI Does Not Wrap Lines in IE6
by Jonathan Mark 04 Aug '02

04 Aug '02

The Zope Management Interface works great in Mozilla. However, when I access the ZMI using IE 6 the line wrapping is turned off, and I can only see the leftmost portions of my code. Clicking on the Wider and Narrower buttons at the bottom of the screen seem to have no effect on anything. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
