creating a python function callable within zope
by Steve Nicholson 02 Aug '02

02 Aug '02

I have created a python based zope product for the cmf which is working ok. I would like to create a function that belongs in the same .py file as the product class but the function will not be a method of a class instance. I want to be able to call this function from anywher within zope to do something related to the product class but not an instance of that class. I assume the function "def function( self ): etc..." is placed outside of the class statement in the .py file but I cannot work out what I need to do to be able to call it in zope, or if it's possible or wise to do. At the moment I have this function written in a zope "python script". Or am I supposed to make it an external method? Hope that makes sense as I'm still trying to get my head around this class, instance, method, function thing! Any ideas or help on where I am going wrong would be much appreciated. (Running zope 2.5.1 / python 2.1.3 / win2000) Thanks Steve.

StructuredText & LocalFS in Python Script
by Elena Schulz 02 Aug '02

02 Aug '02

Dear List, having the following objects: sourceFolder points to a LocalFS-Instance, fileId points to a file in the LocalFS-Instance, and convert_nonascii_1(string) is just a method to exchange some text in string. in DTML I can do the following: <dtml-var "convert_nonascii_1(_.str(_.getitem(sourceFolder, 1)[fileId]))" fmt=structured-text> But how is it done in Python Script? if myLFSname is the name of the LocalFS-Instance and file.txt the name of a file in the LocalFS-Instance this works fine: context.myLFSname['file.txt']() But as soon as I try to do it with sourceFolder and fileId, I get only errors even if the Script can resolve both. Does anybody know why? And how do I use structured Text in Python Script as in DTML: <dtml-var my Var fmt=structured-text> Thanks a lot for your help, Elena

Beginner question: user defined variables
by Michael Guerrero 02 Aug '02

02 Aug '02

Hello, This my first zope project. I am trying to declare a variable called 'tot' for a total field. Within a dtml-in I would like to add a value to this variable. Then display the value of 'tot' after the dtml-in finishes. I have tried the following ( I have placed my comments at the end of each line): <table> <dtml-in sql_billtest> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('tot','tot' + charge_amt)"> -- here is where I try to declare/add to the variable 'tot' <tr> <td><dtml-var invoice_num></td> <td><dtml-var item_type></td> <td><dtml-var charge_amt fmt="%0.2f"></td> -- for each row I want to add this field to 'tot' <td><dtml-var tap_num></td> <td><dtml-var subscriber_name></td> </tr> </dtml-in> <tr> <td><dtml-var tot></td> -- now I want to display the value of 'tot' </tr> </table> When I try this I get 'cannot add type "float" to string'. Is there a way to declare 'tot' as a float? Is this the correct way to do this? I have the 'Zope Bible' but it doesn't have any good examples. One way a was able to get the total was to put another dtml-in after the first and user the 'total' statistics variable. <dtml-in sql_billtest size="1"> <tr> <td><dtml-var total-charge_amt fmt="%0.2f"></td> </tr> </dtml-in> I do not prefer this way. Since 'sql_billtest' is a database query I do not want to query the database twice (once for the detail and once to get the total). Thanks for your help. Mike

session within standard_error_message
by KevinL 02 Aug '02

Can you set values inside the session object from within standard_error_message? I note that doing a request.RESPONSE.redirect requires a "lock=1" arg, I'm wondering if session variable setting suffers similar problems or not. Reason I ask is, I have an app that tries to set session variables within the standard_error_message, and debug indicates the variables are there within that transaction, but gone on the next request from the browser. Log File Analysis Software
by James Bragg 02 Aug '02

02 Aug '02

Hello everyone! I'm attempting to get Sawmill (www.sawmill.net) working with Zope log files. First, Is anyone using Sawmill with Zope? If you are would you care to share your log definition file with me :o) Second, what module is responsible for writing the Z2.log file? Is this part of Medusa, ZServer, or Zope? Third, does anyone know where I can get the field definitions for the Z2.log file. I can't seem to find any docs on it. Almost finally, what other log file analysis tools are people using with Zope? Would you care to share your opinions? Finally, If I'm being blatantly stupid here, please forgive me I'm still a newbie :o) Thanks in advance for any advice or encouragement you have to offer. -james

RE: [Zope] Pointer to ZSQL Method using the UPDATE call

Hi, Thanks to all for their solutions, I'm up and running. -----Original Message----- From: zope-admin(a)zope.org [mailto:zope-admin@zope.org]On Behalf Of Ed Leafe Sent: Thursday, August 01, 2002 4:37 PM To: McDonnell, Larry Cc: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Pointer to ZSQL Method using the UPDATE call On Thursday, August 1, 2002, at 03:27 PM, McDonnell, Larry wrote: > I have been poking around to try to find the proper syntax to do an > UPDATE > within and ZSQL Method. TIA You might want to check out the patch to SQLgroup made by Andy Dustman. I posted a similar question a couple of weeks ago, and got this reply: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/zope/message/94058. I've installed the two patch files (but not SQLBlender itself), and it's working flawlessly. I now have ZSQL methods for updating that look like: update reg <dtml-sqlgroup set noparens> <dtml-sqltest iplayerid type="int" op="eq"> <dtml-comma> <dtml-sqltest ilastteamid type="int" op="eq" optional> <dtml-comma> <dtml-sqltest clastteamtype type="string" op="eq" optional> <dtml-comma> <dtml-sqltest cotherdesc type="string" op="eq" optional> <dtml-comma> <dtml-sqltest itryoutage type="int" op="eq"> <dtml-comma> <dtml-sqltest cpostip type="string" op="eq"> </dtml-sqlgroup> where iid = <dtml-sqlvar iid type="int"> ___/ / __/ / ____/ Ed Leafe http://leafe.com/ http://foxcentral.net _______________________________________________ Zope maillist - Zope(a)zope.org http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope ** No cross posts or HTML encoding! ** (Related lists - http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-announce http://lists.zope.org/mailman/listinfo/zope-dev )
