Strange error with Photo Product
by Dennis Allison 15 Jul '02

15 Jul '02

A work in progress using Zope 2.5.1 incorporates Photo 1.2.3. The use is what one would expect. There's a Photo Folder which holds Photos. In my case, the Photo Folder was constructed through the ZMI. Photographs are uploaded from the web using a <input type=file ...> form. The action for the form is a python script that creates a Photo object in the Photo Folder using the passed-in File Object. The form action calls container.manage_addProduct.manage_addPhoto(id,title,file,.. ) which apparently executes correctly, up to a point. Here "container" is the Photo Folder object. The Photo object is constructed and stored in the Photo Folder. BUT, after creating and string the Photo in the Photo Folder, Zope raises a key error on the File Object variable. The traceback isn't very helpful at localizing the error. Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: KeyError Error Value: the_file ... File /var/zope/lib/python/Products/PythonScripts/PythonScript.py, line 302, in _exec (Object: photo_upload) (Info: ({'script': <PythonScript instance at 8b70a88>, 'context': <Folder instance at 8d91b60>, 'container': <Folder instance at 8d91b60>, 'traverse_subpath': []}, (), {}, None)) File Script (Python), line 8, in photo_upload File /var/zope/lib/python/AccessControl/ZopeGuards.py, line 90, in guarded_getitem File /var/zope/lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPRequest.py, line 847, in __getitem__ KeyError: (see above) File Protections for the Photo Folder allow anyone to Add or change Photos (at the moment). So, I'm at a loss to know where and how this happens. The logic of the Photo Product defers the actual insertion, but it appears to function by value (that is, the data is saved, not the object that contains it). Help much appreciated.

horrible ZCatalog kludge
by Kyler Laird 15 Jul '02

O.k., so I want to know how to get a list of all objects in a ZCatalog for which some variable has a non-null value. A star (*) by itself doesn't work, so how to do it? Well, here's my kludge... catalog = container.people.catalog values = [] for value in catalog.uniqueValuesFor('nominator'): if value: values.append(value) print len(catalog(nominator=values)) I feel so dirty... --kyler

ZODB Conflict, Thunked_TM and transaction hoseups
by Brad Clements 15 Jul '02

15 Jul '02

I have an irritated customer whose data driven zope website is screwing up, seemingly due to ZODB Conflicts on StyleSheet. Description: Zope 2.5.1 binary on linux Interbase, gvibDA Page Templates Use PageTemplates and lots of javascript with xml-rpc requests to pythonscripts to interace through ZSQL methods to talk to interbase via gvibDA. I also use SQLDict, maintaining a pool of SQLDict instances (they're expensive to create) in a Queue (stored in an external method) After pulling an SQLDict from the queue, I attach a gvibDA connection to sqldict by calling the Interbase DA object (to get a db instance), then (from an external method) I call db._register() and then use the connection object from that thread. This works rather well. However, as soon as I get a ZODB conflict, all subsequent transactions fail. That is, I am unable to alter the back-end (interbase) database at all. It's as if every single transaction after that point gets a permanent _rollback(). I have no idea why I'm getting conflicts on ZStyleSheet. I even tried creating a cached DTML method that caches the stylesheet, then serving that. But now I get conflicts on that object as well. 2002-07-12T18:45:38 INFO(0) ZODB conflict error at /Smoking/CachedStyleSheet (1 conflicts since startup at 2002-07-12T18:42:15) ------ 2002-07-12T18:47:02 INFO(0) ZODB conflict error at /Smoking/CachedStyleSheet (2 conflicts since startup at 2002-07-12T18:42:15) So .. it seems that my method of hooking into gvibDA/db.py, calling _register on it (it subclasses THUNKED_TM) is not entirely proper, because once a transaction error occurs, I seem to be blocking some proper rollback. But, why am I getting a conflict error in the first place? It makes no sense. . Just like getting conflicts on helpsys. Maybe, a local role helps you. See the Zope Book for "local roles". Dieter PS: please stay on the list.

Python script calling environment
by p.t. 15 Jul '02

15 Jul '02

I have this situation: root | |- actions (Folder) | |- action_1 (Script) | |- activity (Folder) |- aScript (Script) => running this script |- actions (Folder) |- action_2 (Script) If in aScript I call container.actions.action_1(), testing the script I get: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: action_1 I expected that, if "actions.action_1" was not found in "activity", it was searched in the parent folder of "activity", and so on up to the top of the tree. Is this a simple limitation rule, or there is a deeper reason? As an alternative, is there a way to "inherit" in "activity/actions" the scripts contained in "root/activity"? p.t.

DTML sql construction and IN keyword
by Shane Landrum 15 Jul '02

15 Jul '02

I'm writing some DTML to create a SQL query which uses the IN keyword. I need to select a set of records with a particular set of record IDs, like so: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE id IN (42,27,83); I'm constructing the list of ids externally, so that I pass in an idlist as a string: '42,27,83'. My DTML looks something like this: 'select * from tablename where id in \ (<dtml-sqlvar idlist type="string">)' Now, clearly this isn't working because it's generating SQL with quotes in wrong places, like: SELECT * FROM tablename WHERE id IN ('42,27,83') I'm assuming that I can't simply pass in a list of integers to my SQL method; what's the right way to do this? srl -- Shane Landrum (srl AT boston DOT com) Software Engineer, boston.com

dtml-tree items filtering
by Dan Meszaros 15 Jul '02

15 Jul '02

Hi, i'm trying to solve this thing: i'm building a sitemap. i have folders, that i want to show, and want to hide the others. to differentaite them, i leave the title string empty for those folders i need to hide. i used: <dtml-tree sort=title> <dtml-if "id != 'acl_users'"> <dtml-if "title!=''"> <A HREF="&dtml-absolute_url;" target=right> <IMG border=0 SRC="<dtml-var icon>"><dtml-var title></A> </dtml-if> </dtml-if> </dtml-tree> but having a folder with no title and a subfolder in it, the above gives me the expand-plus-sign in the tree (but show no icon) for that folder. can someone help? regards -dm

calling SQL methods from Scripts(Python)
by Dennis Allison 15 Jul '02

15 Jul '02

I thought they would behave as a variation on methods, but they don't seem to find the keyword parameters. For example, I have a query on a single key request = container.REQUEST RESPONSE = request.RESPONSE container.PhotoUpdate(context, request, user_id='STUD00001' ) return 0 where PhotoUpdate is a simple SQL query object. I thought the call would be the same as for a DTML-method, but I suspect now I am wrong. What's the correct form.

Zope Scaling (and Groups of Users)
by Eric Seidel 15 Jul '02

15 Jul '02

To all- Two questions: 1. Zope/ZEO Scaling. I spent several hours over the past 3 days reading about Zope scalability with ZEO. I am now looking for numbers. Two questions (nearly one and the same) which I did not find answered: a. How well does ZEO scale in DATA SIZE (not availability). i.e. How many items can I have in a folder? How many users/objects can it handle? b. Numbers. There were no specific configuration numbers which I found. How many objects? How many users? How much data? I'm looking to be able to handle at least 40,000 user objects and a similar number of other larger data objects of various sizes (2k - 20k+). Users could be pushed off to an ldap server or some other environment via the LoginManager Mod etc, however I would still have 40,000 user folders in a single folder. Much of my application is of course generate once, serve a million times, but almost all objects can expect regular changes. Currently I have implemented the bulk of my objects in an SQL database which I am serving through a Zope front end. A pure Zope object setup however offers some conveniences over my setup in terms of possibly simpler access controls and, if ZEO lives up to it's claim, simpler scalability. I would be interested in hearing users comments towards ZEOs ability to scale Zope and any specific numbers from various Zope/ZEO setups. Numbers from single Zope Installs are also very welcome. 2. Groups. I have also written my own Authentication system built off of an SQL database to accommodate for groups, and group based access controls. I have read the documentation on Zope3's plan for Groups of principles, however seeing as Zope3 has not even released a build yet I believe I will need to roll my own in this area. I have done some google searching but not found any other Zope modules to handle group based authentication. If anyone knows of such a module I would be very interested in knowing more. Thank you all for your time. Sincerely, Eric Seidel

I want that only one of the folder should be available to the user. 2) If i assign the user with role which do not contain permission ti 'View management screen' then he is not able to seen anything. 3) If i create any user in 'B' or 'C' then that user is not able to log in into the system. Pls. tell me where should i create the role & with what permission and where users should be created? Waiting for ur reply.
