ZPT + ZSQL?
by Scott Finnie 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

Probably a newbie question, but couldn't find the answer on zope.org... I'd like to use ZPT with data in a relational db. ZSQL methods use dtml vars, so I'm wondering: . Is ZSQL the only/recommended method for ZPT access to a relational DB? . Any tutorials/references, etc. that cover use of the two together? Thanks, Scott.

External method question
by Uwe Schuerkamp 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

Hi folks, I've run into a problem using an External Method with reads an mp3 info tag from a *file* and expects a file name argument as such. Then, the function happily calls os.stat on the argument and so on, which all break because the mp3 file is actually an object in a zope folder and not something living in the file system. Is there an easy way to modify the function to operate on a zope file object? I'm using the python snippet I found here: https://sourceforge.net/snippet/download.php?type=snippet&id=100048 I've also looked at the audio object, but it seems that I would have to re-upload all mp3's in order to have properties added, right? newbie auth advice.
by Nathan Valentine 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

This is probably a newbie question but I have read lots of docs and the Spicklemire book and I'm still not sure where to start... I am working on a site for several clients and I would like for clients/users to login with: - username - password - client company name Those three pieces of login information will then be used to determine what information a user sees on their default page and where they can go on the site. I'm not sure if I should be looking at LoginManager, exUserFolder, SimpleUserFolder, CoreSessionTracking, or possibly even CMF. Most of the site content will be pulled from a Postgres database. I would appreciate advice from experienced Zopers. I would like to take whatever path is simplest and also likely to be supported in later versions of Zope. I get the feeling that there are many ways to do what I am trying to accomplish...perhaps too many and that is why I am confused. Thanks. :) -- --- Nathan Valentine - nathan(a)nathanvalentine.org Jabber: NRVesKY AIM: NRVesKY ICQ: 39023424

ImportError with unlrelated and obsolete module
by Jay, Dylan 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

I think some time in the past the transactions must have got tangled. ZSQLMethods has nothing to do with PTKBase. When I try to access any advanced tab from an ZQLMethod I get the following error. (PTKBase is no longer installed and I have to need to install it) Error type: ImportError Error value: No module named PTKBase </BODY></HTML> Can I reinstall/clear/something ZQLMethods or something? I've had these kind of problems before and they suck.

How to store variables in one session
by tillea＠rki.de 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

Hello, I want to write an application which builds a SQL query after answering a set of questions which were presented on several HTML pages in some forms. At first I've thought that I could store the answers in the REQUEST object but I found out that this object does not store values of variables over several requests. Thus I need a way to store some variables over a certain number of user interactions. In the Zope Developers Guide I found something about "ZODB Persistent Components" (Chapter 4) but first I do not understand how to do this with dtml and second I'm really unsure whether this is the right method for my application. I would like to know what is the best way to store some values temporarily in one user session. Kind regards Andreas.

Problems with long strings in RDBMS
by Antonio Carrasco 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

I´m having problems trying to add strings greater than about 150 chars. These strings make the database cursor to crash. I have mysql with ODBC with ZODBCDA under W98. I´m sure it is a ZODBCDA problem, because of I tried to connect with Access2000 and the row with the long string is inserted and I can read it. I tried to hack the code, but I think the problem is in a binary file of the ZODBCDA distribution. Someone experiment something like this?. is it better if i post the traceback? I have searched on Zope.org but it´s nothing about this. ------ Antonio Carrasco

Log Out Problems With Cookie Authentication (& LDAPUserFolder)
by Riggs, David 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

Hi all, I'm using Zope 2.5.1 under Win2k, and authenticating users via the LDAPUserFolder (1.5beta1) with cookie based authentication. I've got a logout link that looks like this: <a href="/mysite/acl_users/logout">Log Out</a> Where the acl_users object is my LDAPUserFolder, and the logout object is a custom form I've placed in it that looks like this: <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.expireCookie('__ac',path='/')"> <dtml-call expr="SESSION.invalidate()"> <dtml-call expr="RESPONSE.redirect('/mysite/index_html')"> The redirect works, but what I expect to happen is that the user should be presented with the login form, instead they are presented with index_html and are most definitely not logged out (user Anonymous does not have 'view' permissions while Authenticated does). In fact, I can't seem to kill the session without closing down the browser entirely. Could anyone give me any pointers to using cookie based authentication, or let me know what I'm doing wrong in this case? Thanks! David A. Dreamweaver MX rewrites ZPT XML?
by hpinson＠indepthl.com 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

Has anyone else experienced this? Dreamweaver MX seems to completely replace ZPT XML tags. Here's the scenario. Connect to Zope via WebDAV and open a document for editing (content.htm). Dreamweaver MX parses: Page Title and replaces the span with the expanded variable information. Publish the document from MX back to Zope, and the XML is gone, replaced by the hard-coded varibale information, i.e.: <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="4"> <tr> <td align="left" valign="top" bgcolor="#6699CC"> Court Information: District 1 </td> </tr> </table> Say it isn't so. I hope i'm misunderstanding something here! I'm also very much hoping that there is a setting in DW MX preferences that prevents this, but have not found it. passive ftp?
by Russell Uman 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

howdy. i'm running zope on linux server that also runs iptables. i'm having trouble getting iptables to accept passive ftp connections to the zope ftp server. i'm assuming that this is because the iptables ftp module doesn't know that port 8021 is ftp as well. i suppose i could set the zope ftp port to 21. has anyone found any other ways around this problem? thanks!

Hosed up site root, can't access site!!!
by Phil Glaser 20 Jun '02

20 Jun '02

Hi, I just royally hosed up my configuration. I was changing the properties of the SiteRoot object, and modified the path to /testsite but did not change the base URL. After comitting this change, none of the site's pages come up -- all I get is "Resource not found." I've tried modifying the URL by which I'm accessing the site in various ways (e.g., /testsite/manage, etc.) but nothing comes up. SInce I can't get into the management screens to fix this, I don't know what to do. Any ideas? Thanks!
