[ANN] TextIndexNG 1.01 released
by Andreas Jung 10 Jun '02

10 Jun '02

I am pleased to announce the release of TextIndexNG 1.01. TextIndexNG is a pluggable index for the ZCatalog that enhances the fulltext indexing capabilities of Zope by providing the following features: * support for document converters (HTML, PDF, WinWord, PowerPoint, Postscript). Custom converters can be easily added * stemmer support for 12 languages * optional support for right truncation * similarity search (soundex, metaphone support) (for english) * NEAR search * phrase search * pluggable query parsers (two parsers included) * stop words support * new test tab for interactive testing * 2-3 times faster than Zopes TextIndex (more to come ;-) ) * compatible with ASCII, ISO-8859-1 Requirements: * Zope 2.5 or Zope CVS trunk checkout Documentation: * http://www.zope.org/Members/ajung/TextIndexNG/wiki Download: * http://www.zope.org/Members/ajung/TextIndexNG/ This is a bugfix release and fixes some minor problems with similarity search and the PyQueryParser. See http://www.zope.org/Members/ajung/TextIndexNG/wiki/ReleaseNotes for details. --------------------------------------------------------------------- - Andreas Jung http://www.andreas-jung.com - - EMail: andreas at andreas-jung.com - - "Life is too short to (re)write parsers" - ---------------------------------------------------------------------

"Diffing" between the versions of a property
by Pierre Godefroy 10 Jun '02

10 Jun '02

Hello everybody, Would it be possible through a script to compare ("diff") between the different successive versions of a property (as you can do for the contents of a DTML document or method, through the "compare" button of the history tab)? I tried to write a Python script (ven External) but the import of the necessary ndiff module does not seem to be allowed. Any hint? Pierre Godefroy

Stupid newbie question
by David Archer 10 Jun '02

10 Jun '02

Hello everyone. I have a small problem. I was trying to install the etcUserFolder object on my Zope server so I downloaded the tarball and it extracted into the correct directory (lib/python/Products/etcUserFolder). I had to muck about with some sym-links to libcrypt on my box (It's running FreeBSD 4.4) and after a few restarts, it saw it as a successfully installed product. I then proceeded to delete my root acl_users folder (it only had one entry in it anyway) and add a new etcUserFolder object. Now I can't login at all to any of the manage screens to fix it. I tried the zpasswd.py script to generate an access (and an inituser) file to see if either of these would get picked up but it still won't let me log in. I tried using my UNIX system username and password and that didn't work either. I know that FreeBSD actually uses a /etc/master.passwd file to hold the encrypted passwords, not /etc/passwd so I don't even know if the etcUserFolder is looking at the right file. The documentation on this product is limited (from what I can find) to the two-paragraph README file that it comes distributed with. I've tried looking through the source code to see if I could get more information about the product but the comments aren't very helpful. I'm at the end of my ideas and short of scrapping the whole installation, can anyone suggest a way for me to fix this problem? If it's simply not possible (which I doubt), is there a way for me to retrieve the objects (DTML documents and such) that I've created and just re-install Zope completely? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Regards, David Archer

I'm running Zope 2.5.1 under Debian Woody and the latest version of TransparentFolders that I could find on zope.org (0.3.2). I just created a simple test case: /test/ << folder tf/ << transparent folder hidden << dtml method index_html << dtml document index_html contains only "<dtml-var hidden>" Using Zope 2.4.2 under Debian Woody, I see the text contained in hidden when I view index_html. Under Zope 2.5.1, I get the error... Error Type: KeyError Error Value: hidden ...with the following traceback... You may be able to save off your data.fs, reinstall zope, the attach your old data.fs as mountable storage? I have never used mountable storage, so I have no idea if this would work or not. Look on google for more info on mountable storage. Scott -----Original Message----- From: Jorge O. Re: [Zope] RV: what's the best way to do this?
by Jaroslav Lukesh 10 Jun '02

| Odesílatel: Casey Duncan <casey(a)zope.com> | Anyone serious about developing in Zope should also learn Python, which, | if you've programmed in any other language before can be done quite | quickly. Its also a great language for beginner programmers. Knowing | Python gives you a tremendous advantage in understanding Zope and the | CMF (because you can read tracebacks and the source code and write | Python scripts, external methods and products). Hmm... I was programmed before 13 years ago in native code (no assembler, raw hexa code). Today I was able to make little modifications to source code (asm, c, some little dtml-ext), or make small "programs" in JavaScript only. DTML external methods are "spanish village" for me :( I need to develop corporate intranet, so I decide for Zope instead VisualInterdev. So if in todays view I have no programming skills, should I begin to learn Python? It is good starting point? I have no accessibility to the university and students community (too long distance), so I need to be self-teached. Thanks Jaroslav Lukesh

importing/exporting
by John P. Looney 10 Jun '02

I'm new to Zope, and decided to play around with it at home for a few hours. I built up a small site, and decided to export it out, and mail it to myself in work, where I uploaded it to a Zope server there. When exporting, I clicked on 'import/export' in the root folder, I didn't give an export object id (assuming it would just choose /) and clicked 'Export'. I got a 2MB file (big, considering I'd typed in maybe 5k of HTML and 100k of images). I imported that into the Zope server in work. It seemed to be OK, only that it created a folder called 'Zope' and stuck it in there. I decided to try move the folders & DTML documents from /Zope to /, with cut & paste, but I kept getting errors like: " One or more items referred to in the clipboard data was not found. The item may have been moved or deleted after you copied it. " Also, I noticed that I had been using a gadfly database - the import did not create a /var/zope/var/gadfly directory at all, so any time I tryed to access those methods, it was throwing me errors ! Have I done something incorrectly ? Or does the import/export functionality not work in 2.5.x ?
