Displaying list of documents in sub-folders?
by EvH 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

Hello, I'm still a newbie at Zope, so please bear with me as I read through the Zope Book and experiment... In the main page, I'd like to have a index_html DTML Method object display a list of documents that are located in sub-folders, eg. computers/, news/ The following doesn't work: <dtml-in expr="objectValues('computers/DTML Document')"> <tr> <td><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a></td> </tr> </dtml-in> Should I use a Python Script object instead? Any tip much appreciated Eddie.

Using standard_html_header to display banner
by EvH 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

Hi, I've been checking out Zope by reading the Zope Book, and am stuck with something: I'm building an intranet to contain documents. Each document should have a banner to display the document's Title and a bitmap whose id is the document's title and ".png" appended. For instance, a document called "widget.html" will have a Title section called "Quick & Dirty Guide to Widgets", and the Image object displayed along the title in the banner should be widget.html.png . 1. Here's the standard_html_header DTML Method: <html> <head><title><dtml-var title></title></head> <body> <table border="0" width="100%"> <tr> <td width="70%"><h1><dtml-var title></h1></td> <td align="right"><img src="<dtml-var id>.png"></td> </tr> </table> 2. And here's the index_html DTML Method that includes code to display a list of sub-folders: <dtml-var standard_html_header> <table width=100% border=0> <dtml-in expr="objectValues('Folder')"> <tr> <td><a href="&dtml-absolute_url;"><dtml-var title_or_id></a></td> <td><dtml-var bobobase_modification_time fmt="aCommon"><td> </tr> </dtml-in> </table> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> Problem: - If I use a DTML Method object for a document, <dtml-var title> in the standard_html_header shows the container's Title (!) instead of the document's Title - If I use a DTML Document instead, <dtml-var title> does show the document's Title as expected, but the <dtml-in ...> code is not run. Do you know of any easy way to let writers include a banner by just including <dtml-var standard_html_header> ? Thx a bunch for any tip EvH.

small (newbie?) problem using the binary upgrade to 2.5.1
by H.de.Wit＠SFK.NL 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

Hello, I tried to use the Zope-2.5.x-to-2.5.1-win32-x86.tgz binary upgrade (from 2.5.0) I extracted the archive with Winzip, but this retrieved one huge python-like sourcefile without extension During the extraction i used "use folder names" to put the files in the correct places, but it doesn't seem to work out. What should i do with the huge sourcefile? Hans de Wit Stichting Farmaceutische Kengetallen Postbus 30460 2500 GL DEN HAAG Tel. 070-3737448 Fax 070-3737445

Hi! I am looking for a simple Time-Sheet Product for Zope. I have found TimeTracker but I'd like to have fields for start and end time each day. Maybe somebody has created such a thing. Juergen

[ANN] Small fix for ZShell 1.4
by Jerome Alet 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

Hi, ZShell 1.41 is now available with a small bug fix wrt history handling : an empty history (.zshell_history DTML Document) caused ZShell to break. This problem was mitigated by the fact that when creating a .zshell_history DTML Document, the default DTML Document content was there and ZShell knew how to empty it correctly. However you can now clear (history --clear) the history with no problem. A small modification was also made to reduce the number of bytes output by ZShell (usually almost 1/3), and documentation about setenv and unsetenv was clarified. To learn more about ZShell, try it online, or download it, please visit : http://www.librelogiciel.com/software/ NB : for the hundredths (Yes!) of persons who have tried the restricted ZShell online : the man command can display more than one manpage at a time, and with no argument all manpages are displayed (use man man :-) any comment appreciated. folders with same names (newbie question)
by Marie ROBICHON 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

First of all, thanks for your patience for reading this long post.......I posted it twice a while ago but had no replies so am trying again...... Our development site has approx the following structure: index_html - About | Guided Tour | Machine - Jobs - Beamlines - Machine | Parameters etc Inside each folder is a contents_html document. The index_html is at the root and displays this content under a generic banner with drop down menus (Javascript) with links to the top level folders and their subfolders. Local navigation is generated via a treemenu which generates absolute_urls. However we get the following error when clicking a link in the treemenu, to http://mysite/About/GuidedTour Error Type: KeyError Error Value: Parameters Traceback (innermost last): File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: GuidedTour) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 98, in publish File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 120, in __call__ (Object: javascript) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: javascript) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 76, in render (Object: Machine) File /zope/Zope-2.5.0-solaris-2.6-sparc/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_With.py, line 60, in render (Object: Parameters) KeyError: (see above) I presume that Zope moves up to the root to pick up the index_html then moves back down until it finds the first "Machine" folder, which is not the one we want then raises an error. Does this mean that in Zope no two folders can have the same id? This would cause problems when our contributors edit their parts of our site. Is there a way around this other than naming the folders differently? I remember seeing something about tpId somewhere.... problem with "old" dates
by John Schinnerer 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

Hello, I built a simple searchable image gallery using a ZClass and the default Catalog (zope 2.4.1). Gallery items have a field of type 'date' to store the image creation date. So far all the dates I've entered have been very recent (1999 and up). Then I added an image of a sketch done in August of 1957. It added fine, and reindexing the catalog caused no complaints. However, after that any gallery search that would have included that item in the result fails and returns a zope error. If the search does not return that item everything still works fine. If I change the year from 1957 to something recent like 1997 or 2000, it works fine. I haven't nailed down exactly what year it fails at because I'm hoping someone already knows... >From the traceback (last few lines included below) it looks like safegmtime in DateTime.py is choking on this date. The actual exception text in safegmtime says 'The time %f is beyond the range of this Python implementation.' I'm finding it just a little hard to believe that it can't handle 1957 correctly...?? I'm entering years as four digits (e.g. 1957, not 57). There appears to be a y2k patch in DateTime.py that just assumes 69 and lower is in the 21st century - not sure if that comes into play here but if so there goes anything before 1970. If pre-1970 (or whenever the limit is) dates can't be correctly handled as date types, do I have any recourse for "old" dates other than having to store the date as a string? I'm using 'date' because sometimes I want to display just the year, sometimes the month and year, etc. using the 'built-in' output formatting. And why no problem adding and cataloging the item? Seems like a date that can't be handled properly later on should be caught there... thanks, John S. --------------- last few lines of traceback: ... Postgres and BLOBS
by Colin Fox 29 Apr '02

29 Apr '02

Hi, everyone. I need to be able to store binaries (PDFs, JPEGs, etc) in postgres tables and embed them in web pages. The idea is I have entries in the database and there is an image to go with each entry. Postgres supports BLOBs, but there is a somewhat awkward interface to using them (you have to actually extract the blob to a file on disk). I was wondering if anyone had created an object (simlar to the Zope image object) that would let me reference binaries in the database without having to do local file manipulation? -- Colin Fox cfox(a)crystalcherry.com CF Consulting Inc. problems writing unit tests
by Robert Rottermann 28 Apr '02

28 Apr '02

Hi there, one of the methods I call from a unittest changes a property. When called from "normal" zope it works fine. When I call the same function from a unittest it breaks saying that URL1" is not defined. Here is the code I use. The first time (no property it) works fine. The second time it breaks if self.hasProperty('poolGroup'): self.manage_changeProperties(REQUEST = {' poolGroup':= group}) else: self.manage_addProperty(id = 'poolGroup', type='string', value=group) Setting the Property like this: self.manage_changeProperties(REQUEST = None, poolGroup = group) does not generate an error, but does not change it. Any hints are greatly appreciated. Robert www.redcor.ch
