[ANN] ZShell 1.4
by Jerome Alet 28 Apr '02

28 Apr '02

Hi, I'm pleased to announce the long awaited new version of ZShell, the Zope Shell. ZShell is an external Zope method which allows you to manipulate the ZODB using standard unix shell's commands from within Zope's Management Interface in your web browser. ZShell is the swiss army's knife of the Zope admin, but care should be taken when giving access to ZShell to mere mortals... ZShell is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License, with no special restrictions since the ZPL was certified as GPL compatible by the Free Software Foundation. New features are : * Commands tid, dbconn, davlocks, printenv, setenv, unsetenv, echo were added. * Preliminary support for variables assignments works fine : you now have access to every variable from Zope's environment, plus every variable from the REQUEST object (as their string representations), either for reading, setting or using them. The syntax is the *nix shell $ one, here's an example of what you can do know : exec ls -la $INSTANCE_HOME/* another one : setenv --zope ZDAEMON_MANAGE=FALSE Needless to say that you use this feature at your own risk ! ZShell version 1.4 now has a new home at : http://www.librelogiciel.com/software/ and a restricted demo can be tested online at : http://www.librelogiciel.com/software/ZShell/rsh Please be kind with this demo, any abuse will be severely punished ;-) (Now it's time for me to do a backup, I suppose) Any comment or help will be very welcome. Thank you for reading. Jerome Alet

Searching Metapublisher instances...
by Juergen Osterberg 28 Apr '02

28 Apr '02

sorry, if this is an stupid question: I created a search and a report method via the usual interface tab. In mp_catalog I indexed all MetaEntries. Doing a search (with any search item) however returns a list of all meta entries? Is there a clever way to do a simultaneous search in a folder having a bunch of DTML-methods and half a dozen Metapublishers instances? thanks for the help, regards Juergen P.S: Anybody knows, what happened to the metapublisher list, is it still working?

Global Editing
by Michael 28 Apr '02

28 Apr '02

Could someone direct me to a tutorial or other resource that explains how to do a global edit of database records in ZODB? For example: someone has a number of entries and their email address changes. Would the records have to be edited one at a time, or is there a way to change all of the records in one operation? 2.3.3/1.5.2 and 2.5.2/2.1.2 on the Same OSX Box?
by Chris Abraham 28 Apr '02

Hi all: I would like to have a version of 2.3.3 running on the same Mac OSX box one which I have my 2.5.2 Zope install. Is there a best way for me to set up 2.3.3 to run 1.5.2 as a special case so that I will be able to run then both on the box? Thanks in advance! Hi Chris, I went ahead and built a 2.3.3/1.5.2 binary installer to go with the 2.4.4/2.1.3 and 2.5.1/2.1.3 installers at http://opensource.spvi.com. You will also find MySQLdb, ZPsycopgDA, and TransactionAgents-005 for MacOSX (built for Zope-2.5.x) there. Let me know if you have any trouble with any of these. Good Luck! -steve > Chris Abraham cja(a)dds.nl > Fri, 26 Apr 2002 13:25:50 -0700 (PDT) > > Hi all: > > I would like to have a version of 2.3.3 running on the same Mac OSX box > one > which I have my 2.5.2 Zope install. Problem with "redirect" and Proxy
by sbergmann＠weblog.de 27 Apr '02

27 Apr '02

Hi! I have the following problem: To serve my site in multiple languages and not to copy the whole page, I want to use a SESSION-Variable. The variable saves the choosen language so I can use it in the whole page. To change the language I'm setting the variable with the new language and I'm making a redirect to the page with "RESPONSE.redirect()". Now the problem is that when there is a Proxy between, the page is served from the proxy without changing the language. The proxie uses the cached page in the old language. When I use the Refresh-Button of the Browser the changing of the language takes effect. Without a proxy it works fine. Does somebody know a possibility to make a refresh to the page to get the content really new from the server and not from the proxie? Bye Steffen

automatically reindexing one catalog
by Dianne Van Dulken 27 Apr '02

27 Apr '02

Hi everyone, Yet another problem from me. I have two catalogs (one for merchants, one for items). Whenever I make a change to the information in these catalogs, I want to automatically reindex the correct one. The merchant one does this, but, for some reason, the items one doesn't. Does anyone know how I can define which catalog I want to reindex? I've tried <dtml-with ItemCatalog>, dtml-in, but can't work out what I am doing wrong. It just sits there with old data in it. Thanks! Di

DTML in Product
by Terry Hancock 27 Apr '02

27 Apr '02

I'm converting a through-the-web prototype to a product. Following the conventions of the examples I've seen and the ZDG (and previous tutorials on products), I'm using DTML "manage_add..." forms. However, I have a number of these with shared information, so it would be much more convenient to factor out the common content into a separate DTML file, which I've done. To be more specific, I have an add-form for my "GalleryArt" object, called addGalleryArt, which includes a file add_contrib_dtml which has a common portion of the add form used by several objects in the product. However, I can't figure out how to include the component DTML in the DTML form. I'm using DTMLFile() to get the original DTML, which is then registered in my __init__.py. I've used the same DTMLFile() method to capture the shared component. So I now have a reference to add_contrib_dtml in the Python module which defines GalleryArt. Now, in order to get this into the namespace for the DTML form, I tried defining it like this: add_contrib_dtml = DTMLFile('dtml/add_contrib', globals()) manage_addGalleryArt = DTMLFile('dtml/addGalleryArt', globals(), add_contrib_dtml=add_contrib_dtml) (there's a line like <dtml-var add_contrib_dtml> in the dtml/addGalleryArt.dtml file). However, when I call this form in Zope by trying to add the GalleryArt object, I get an AttribError exception thrown from add_contrib which says it can't find "_aq_parent". This presumeably stands for "acquisition parent" and is certainly not referred to explicitly by me -- so it has to be something that DTML expects Zope to provide it with. So presumeably it did find add_contrib_dtml, but it isn't happy with its namespace. This must be because the DTML files are not in the Zope hierarchy, but are instead in my Product, but I then don't understand why the DTML forms worked in the first place. SO -- the question I'm asking is how was I _supposed_ to do this? (How) can I build a DTML hierarchy like this inside my Product? Thanks for any ideas! Session manager without pickle?
by Dietmar Schwertberger 27 Apr '02

27 Apr '02

Hi! I'd like to open and store a database connection per session to enable things like transactions over multiple http accesses, use of (existing) python code, user authorization via database server etc. Unfortunately the session manager tries to pickle the connection object, which of course doesn't work here. Is it possible to avoid this? Anyway, as session data should be stored in RAM, I don't see the point of pickling... If it's possible to do what I want, is it also possible/necessary to avoid multiple concurrent accesses from the same user/session? Regards, Dietmar
