Populating a form
by McDonnell, Larry 27 Apr '02

27 Apr '02

Hi, I am new to the Zope environment but I have been successful. I have been able to add odbc database connection and through a form input information to this database. Now I would like to view this information. I have set up z sql methods and I can see the info under the manage_test format. I would like to be able to re-populate my output form (its a copy of the input form but without the submit). I have gone through the zope book but maybe I missed something. Any examples or pointer I can use, thanks. Larry McDonnell Proton Energy Systems 50 Inwood Rd. Rocky Hill, CT 06067 (860) 571-6533 ext. 531 Email:lmcdonnell@protonenergy.com www.protonenergy.com

interactive mode
by Ian! 27 Apr '02

Is there a way to use an interactive python shell with zope? I find it's really helpful to use an interactive shell when writing python programs - is there some way I should be doing this? Right now I'm just calling os.chdir() to the right directory and importing Zope, but I get some odd errors, and when I do dir(Zope) it contains very few things. Am I doing that wrong? Should I be importing something else? Also, for python scripts for zope, how does everyone know which python modules, classes, and functions to import and use? The zope.org documentation is pretty sparse w.r.t. the python side of things - should I just read through the source code, or did I miss something when I was reading the documentation? The same thing applies for CMF, I can't find any references to read through.

~homepages in Zope
by Laurie Nason 26 Apr '02

Hi all, Due to a problem involving a hacker and our web server, we are going to be moving all of our users from Apache (~username) home pages into Zope - but the problem is, how do I redirect any entries from the original ~username to the new location, homes/username. Anyone done this before. Laurie PS Don't bother replying and telling me not to migrate users - it's not been my decision! :-) Laurie Nason Scientific Programmer National Center for Macromolecular Imaging Houston TX USA

How to use a ZSQLMethod from a Python Script
by Igor Leturia 26 Apr '02

26 Apr '02

Hi! I want to call a ZSQLMethod from a Python Script. In Zope.org, I couldn't find a specific how-to on the subject, but accidentally I found some other how-to's in which there are examples that use ZSQLMethods from Python scripts. It seemed very easy, so I tried it that way: res = context.mysqlmethod() It gives an error message, 'resource not found'. Both the script and the sql method are in the same folder. What's going wrong? Thanks in advance, Igor Leturia

Tiny Tables Plus's Constructor
by Dennis Allison 26 Apr '02

26 Apr '02

I've been using TTP and find it meets my needs for a "not quite a database" sort of object. Up until now, I've created the tables using the usual ZMI management interface. Now I need to create, delete, and modify the tables programatically. I've don't quite understand the interface for the product. A little help would be much appreciated. As I understand Zope, a Product's constructor is registerd with an ObjectManager and accessed throught it, e.g., self.manage_addproduct['OFSP'].manage_addFolder(id,title) is the usual pattern for creating a folder. I looked at the TTP code. The constructor is addItem( self, id, title) but I've been unable to grok how the product has registered with an ObjectManager and under what name it is to be found. Where is the product-type specified in the Product so I can locate the proper ObjectManager instance to create new instances. I have tried the obvious'TinyTablePlus' key. It found an ObjectManager but the constructor 'addItem' was not found and so the constructor self.manage_addproduct['TinyTablePlus'].addItem( 'newtable', 'test') failed with a getattr error for addItem. I suspected it might be a permissions problem. I checked the permissions on the product panel and enabled all of the Tiny Table options (Add and Change). Truth be told, I am not sure what the impact of those permissions should be. I saw no change with my constructor problem... Thanks for any help you can provide.
