ZCatalog secondary sort
by brian.r.brinegar.1 08 Apr '02

08 Apr '02

I have a ZCatalog and I would like to search it and sort the results first on a Priority value and then sort all results with the same priority on a date. I would like to be able to do something like this: results = catalog.searchResults(sort_on=['priority','event_date']) but sort on cannot be a list. Is there a way to do this, or do I need to sort the results on my own? Thanks, -Brian Brinegar ECN Web Systems Developer

Im having the following traceback when removing some catalogAware objects from my zodb. What i dont understand is why this should not happen. I have ignored this thread to this point but felt obliged to offer my favorite animal - The Hippo, or River Horse as it's name is derived from. Looks like a lumbering beast on the outside, but once you get to know it, it's a graceful animal in its familiar surroundings.... -Allen -----Original Message----- From: Jonas Bengtsson [mailto:caelumse@yahoo.se] Sent: Monday, April 08, 2002 12:54 PM To: zope(a)zope.org Subject: Re: [Zope] Zope Mascot? :-))) > so why don't have a group of friendly animals... something like a ZOOpe? I don't know about you, but I think that a bunch of dancing elephants are best. What about http://www.zope.org/Members/caelum (It is based on a clipart I found but I think that it is ok to do this, but I'm not sure. If anyone have any input let me know!) HTML to STX
by vsbabu＠vsbabu.org 08 Apr '02

Hi, We've some documents in valid XHTML, using only H?, A, B, I, UL, OL, LI, CODE, PRE and P tags. Programmers like STX better than HTML, so I'm looking for any scripts out there that can convert this into STX fairly easily. Just trying to avoid writing one using SGMLLIB :-) -vsb

dtml-tree
by JesusAvila＠apb.es 08 Apr '02

Hi there, I have some trouble with <dtml-tree>. Imagine i have the following directory structure: 1 1/2 1/2/3 1/3/4/5 1/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 1/5/6 1/7/8/9/10/11/12/13/14 I am in 1/3/4/5/6/7/8 and from there i call <dtml-tree>. The result of that would be the display of the tree starting from 9. How can i call dtml-tree and tell him that i want to display all the tree structure starting from the root "1". I want to call <dtml-tree> from anywhere in the site, and be able to display all the site. I have read the documentation about dtml-tree and there is an attribute called "url", but i do not know how to use it. I have tried to enclose the dtml-tree into a dtml-with, but it doesn't work. I have given to the attribute url the value "1", but it still doesn't work. Could anyone help me, please? Thanks a lot. Jesus

weird, zpt security problem?
by Phil Harris 08 Apr '02

all, I have a problem and need someone to verify it for me, just so's I know I'm not going insane. Here's what I did: 1. Create a folder in the root, call it folder1 2. Create a new role in folder1, call it member 3. Create a user folder within folder1, and create a user in there with member role 5. create a folder within folder1, call it folder2 4. change the security for folder2 to turn off aqcuisition for the 'Access contents information' and 'view' and explicitly turn them on for the new member role and manager 6. create a zope page template within folder2, call it index_html keeping the default content now start another browser and try and view the /folder1/folder2/index_html as the user you created earlier At this point I can't login with anything but a user with manager role, the member who should have enough access (and would have with a dtml method in place of the zpt), can't see this page at all. The error I get back is that the user is: Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access title in this context With a traceback like this: Traceback (innermost last): File D:\zope25\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File D:\zope25\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 114, in publish File D:\zope25\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py, line 159, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: ftest2) File D:\zope25\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 98, in publish File D:\zope25\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: index_html) File D:\zope25\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: index_html) File D:\zope25\lib\python\Shared\DC\Scripts\Bindings.py, line 252, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File D:\zope25\lib\python\Shared\DC\Scripts\Bindings.py, line 283, in _bindAndExec (Object: index_html) File D:\zope25\lib\python\Products\PageTemplates\Expressions.py, line 177, in _eval File D:\zope25\lib\python\Products\PageTemplates\Expressions.py, line 134, in _eval (Info: template) File D:\zope25\lib\python\Products\PageTemplates\Expressions.py, line 327, in restrictedTraverse (Object: index_html) (Info: {'path': ['title'], 'TraversalRequestNameStack': []}) File D:\zope25\lib\python\Products\PageTemplates\Expressions.py, line 345, in validate2 (Object: index_html) File D:\zope25\lib\python\AccessControl\SecurityManager.py, line 83, in validate File D:\zope25\lib\python\AccessControl\ZopeSecurityPolicy.py, line 177, in validate Unauthorized: (see above) Does anyone else see this, am I doing something wrong, is it a bug, or am I completely insane? I'd appreciate any reports sent either to me direct or to the list. tia ps. reporting on my sanity will get you no brownie points whatsoever ;) Phil

twiki and zope

Thanks for the information. What is the difference between twiki and zope? Thanks, Samy Rengasamy. -----Original Message----- From: Dieter Maurer [mailto:dieter@handshake.de] Sent: Tuesday, April 02, 2002 2:01 PM To: Rengasamy, Samy Cc: 'zope(a)zope.org' Subject: Re: [Zope] How to refer an object in a sub folder? This is an FAQ: * "dtml-with" * attribute access 'expr="java.index(_.None,_)"' (in case "index" is a DTML object) * "restrictedTraverse" Please read the Zope book or <http://www.dieter.handshake.de/pyprojects/zope/book/chap3.html> to learn more about these options. Re: [Zope] Problem: performance of retrieving properties from objects...
by Antwan Reijnen 08 Apr '02

Hi Lennart! Thanks for your prompt thoughts. Let me elaborate on some points: >The depends entirely on what the data retrival methods are... I use two methods: one 'official' one: propertysheet.propertyItems(), and one I wrote myself, which fetches the properties loop-wise with propertysheet.getProperty(id). The time they require, is roughly the same... > > 2) Suppose I have to switch to a database (there goes my weekend and free > > evenings next week). I want to retrieve the properties as one record then. >I > > think the number of 400 props will decrease in this matter, too. > >Why would they decrease just because you move them to a relational database? Quite af few properties are 'lines' and 'selection / multiple selection'. I guess when I use a rdb some of this zope-specific properties won't be nessecary. > > I assume the database will retrieve these results a LOT faster. > >That depends on the database... And it depends on why it is so slow. I think >the fact that you have so many properties add to the slowness, since each of >then has to be looked up. Agree, but consider this: when I retrieve a fixed set of data, on propertysheets with varying number of properties (N), the fetchprocedure takes more time when N increases... Why should propertysheet.getProperty('aProperty') take longer on a larger propertysheet? >So a database would be faster here, since they >have a fixed data structure. On the other hand, you might get the same >effect by radically altering your data structure. Which brings us to the >main question: > >***Why on earth do you have 400 properties?*** I already drastically REDUCED it. I made 6 categories (propertysheets) which makes about 400 properties per propertysheet :-)) Each sheet contains 13 questions with lots of answerfields. I already told my boss that these kinds of large questionaries will not work in practice (BORING), but... you know, he is the boss ;-) > > How about using this database in combination with an existing catalog? > >It can be done, but is not necessary. Index the data in the database >instead. Ok. This way I have two different searches on the website, but that's acceptable. > > 3) Suppose I build a CMF product entirely in python (may god help me), and > > I store all these properties as mentioned in (1), would the performance be > > higher than in case (1)? > >Python classes are supposedly faster than ZClasses (I don't use ZClasses, as >I find them complicated, limited and cumbersome), so yes it would probably >be faster, but I can't say how much Ok, thanks again Lennart. If you have the time to enlighten me further, you are more than welcome!! Many greetings from the Netherlands, Antwan.
