Calling a dtml method from a product
by Geoff Armstrong 03 Apr '02

03 Apr '02

Hi all, This is a very basic question, I know; but is it possible to call a dtml method from a product file such as myproduct.py ? If so, can anyone advise me the correct syntax and whether the dtml method has to reside within the products folder or whether it can be any method within the ZODB? Thanks geoff

I believe I want -u zope because I don't have Apache, zope is the web server. So zope has to serve on port 80. I mean, if one copies a site > using this product will invididual objects in the newly minted copies have > the same modification dates as the originals? No, I believe it changes the modification dates. This is how it knows what is out of synch, unless I am very much mistaken. I'm less sure of the behavior of import/export, though I think it changes dates too. IMHO, if you are moving a site en-masse, I think you'd be better off to use import/export. Zsyncers value would seem to be in moving small changes from the staging site to the production site, after having made the initial deployment. I am still not happy with the mechanisms for staging a site when it is necessary to merge-back changes originating from the production site (e.g. user comments which have been added to a website). This requires some very careful thought on your part, if you have such a requirement (I still haven't figured it all out, so I would muddle the issue with any specific recommendations!). Of course, ultimately this is what ZEO is about, but it's an automatic method, so I don't think there's much opportunity to intervene in the process and copy selectively. That's what Zsyncer does. There is a hack to Zsyncer to make it reversible (I have a copy emailed from the original author -- it may not be available on the web, yet), but it's supposed to have some significant bugs with the file time handling. It does the synching manually though, so it's not like a CVS check-in, where you get the *most-recent* version from either site. That's probably what I really want, but I don't know how to set it up yet. I've been meaning to look into that, but haven't found the time. sigh. But it does exist. Ultimately ZEO + versions may be the "right" way to do this, but I haven't even begun to figure that out. Acquisition for bilingual site
by Stephan Goeldi 03 Apr '02

03 Apr '02

Acquisition trouble I am setting up a bilingual website (english/german). I followed the instructions in http://www.zope.org/Members/Hoekstra/ChangingZopeContexts which I modified a little, because I don't have more than 2 languages on this site. I created the following structure: / navigation standard_html_header standard_html_footer index_html de/ content about/ order/ ... en/ content about/ order/ ... home/ index_html The logic is this: By entering the website, /home/index_html is called. It looks at the browser language and decides, whether it is german (->de) or anything else (->en). This is /home/index_html: ---------- /home/index_html ---------- <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-if "REQUEST.HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE=='de'"> <dtml-var de> <dtml-else> <dtml-var en> </dtml-if> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ---------------------------------------- So this should point at /en, if the browser language is different than german (language selection works perfect in this case). The content of /de are some subfolders without an index_html, so the index_html of / should be used. This is /index_html: ---------- /index_html ---------- <dtml-var standard_html_header> <dtml-var navigation> <dtml-if content> <dtml-var content> </dtml-if> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> ---------------------------------------- ---------- /navigation ---------- <a href="<dtml-var about>">about</a> | <a href="<dtml-var performance>">performance</a> | <a href="<dtml-var security>">security</a> | <a href="<dtml-var prices>">prices</a> | <a href="<dtml-var support>">support</a> | <a href="<dtml-var order>">order</a> | <a href="/en/"><dtml-var english></a> | -->icon <a href="/de/"><dtml-var deutsch></a> | -->icon ---------------------------------------- So if the browser language is detected, and points to /de or /en, /index_html should be used, to display an object called 'content' (if it exists) and the /navigation object should be included. If the user decides to select another language, he/she can click on the appropriate language link (de/en). On this level, the browser language detection should no more be active. But what I get is this traceback, which seems to originate from /navigation: Traceback (innermost last): File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 114, in publish File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\Zope\__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: zopehosting) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 98, in publish File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\ZPublisher\mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: index_html) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: index_html) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 127, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: index_html) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 120, in __call__ (Object: standard_html_header) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: standard_html_header) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\OFS\DTMLMethod.py, line 120, in __call__ (Object: navigation) File C:\ZOPE\lib\python\DocumentTemplate\DT_String.py, line 473, in __call__ (Object: navigation) KeyError: about So there seems to be a problem with the first called navigation object (about). This is a subdirectory of /de and /en. ZGDChart - Passing parameters
by Igor Leturia 03 Apr '02

Hi all! I am using ZGDChart to draw a chart, and I use a Data Method to obtain the values for the chart. The problem is I want to pass some parameters to the Data Method, and I can't get it right. I put the parameters in the REQUEST object and then I include <dtml-var chart>, but it gives me an error. Any ideas? Igor Leturia

unix security patch
by notices name 03 Apr '02

03 Apr '02

Hi. I am trying to run zope as a user "zope", neither root nor nobody, and I am having the hardest time. I am new to both Linux and Zope, running zope 2.5.0 on Linux 7.2. I applied zigg's UNIX security patch, Zope-2.5.0b3-unix-security.patch and then I edited start to add -u zope I got System Exit: Cannot safelt setuid without initgroups There was a line in the instructions - "you must run the build script in order to get the new module built". I can't figure out what the build script is or how to run it. (I have that sinking feeling my inexperience is showing, sorry!) I did run the install script again to see if it would compile the right piece, no luck. I seem to have a c compiler, gcc, which seems to respond to the cc command, although I can't be sure because I know nothing about c. I found a file called initgroups.c, but if I do cc initgroups.c, I get initgroups.c:28:20 Python.h No such file or directory. (sure enough line 28 says include "Python.h") I found a Python.h and copied it into the initgroups dir and tried cc initgroups.c again, and got a slew of missing things inside Python.h. Am I on the right track? Is there an easier way? Thanks, Annie
