Formulator and ZDebug incompatibility
by Itai Tavor 02 Apr '02

Hi, I posted this question on the Formulator mailing list but it didn't seem to interest anyone there, so I'm posting it here in hope that anyone here has some helpful info or a workaround. It seems that Formulator is still incompatible with ZDebug. This problem was discussed briefly back in May 2001 (<http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/2001-May/091103.html>), related to Formulator 0.9.1 and ZDebug 0.2. I'm using Formulator 1.2.0 and ZDebug 0.3 in Zope 2.4.4b1, and I have the same problem - an error message if a form field fails to validate - although the error message is a bit different this time: Error type: TypeError Error value: __init__() takes exactly 3 arguments (2 given) Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 223, in publish_module File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 187, in publish File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 226, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: Forms) File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 171, in publish File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 160, in mapply (Object: feedback) File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 112, in call_object (Object: feedback) File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/OFS/DTMLMethod.py, line 200, in __call__ (Object: feedback) File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_String.py, line 546, in __call__ (Object: feedback) File /.../Zope/Products/ZDebug/DTMLDebug.py, line 305, in debug_render_blocks File /.../Zope/Products/ZDebug/DTMLDebug.py, line 237, in debugException File /.../Zope/Products/ZDebug/DTMLDebug.py, line 303, in debug_render_blocks File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Try.py, line 212, in render File /usr/local/zope/2.4.4b1/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/DT_Try.py, line 221, in render_try_except File /.../Zope/Products/ZDebug/DTMLDebug.py, line 287, in debug_render_blocks File /.../Zope/Products/ZDebug/DTMLDebug.py, line 237, in debugException File /.../Zope/Products/ZDebug/DTMLDebug.py, line 182, in debugWithNamespace TypeError: (see above) Anybody else seeing this? IIS, PCGI, authentication
by Tom Nixon 02 Apr '02

I am running Zope under IIS using PCGI and it works great, but I can't view pages that require authentication. I found the following in the archive but it caused a forbidden error rather than popping up the login dialog. Does anyone know what the easiest way to do this is? T. Note that you probably have to tweak your IIS configuration to get IIS to pass authentication headers to Zope. You need to make sure that BOTH "Windows NT Challenge/Response" AND "Basic Authentication" are DESELECTED for the cgi directory where you placed the cgi exe. Otherwise, IIS will intervene on every request and try to do the authentication itself (which will fail, of course).

Shameless plug or not, an interesting idea. I'll have a look. (I still want to know where my little code has gone off the rails though.) Thanks, Bak. The better way is to create a wrapper class and use declarative security on it to allow access to only those methods and subobjects that you really need TTW access to. That is not usually a five minute solution though. See the zope dev guide for details on this. > Will components be of any help? i can imagine to implement the interface > class as a zope integrated class and use any other class as the > implementation. Well first off, Interfaces aren't classes regardless of whether you use a "class" declaration to create them or not. Hopefully future Python versions will allow us to define interfaces without using the confusing "class" statement. Declarative security will still be the way it works in Zope 3, however those declarations can be made in configuration files rather than code. That allows you to use modules and secure them properly in Zope without modifying code or creating wrapper classes. -Casey

To ZEO or not to ZEO
by Carlos de la Guardia 01 Apr '02

01 Apr '02

Hello, please help me out here. We have a site with the following characteristics: - Zope 2.5.0, Python 2.1.2, Linux 2.4.7 - Heavily dynamic content, mostly using ZPT with python scripts, Python products and Zcatalog (65,000 documents with a full text index). No SQL databases. - 500,000 hits daily average, 45,000 pageviews, peaks at 40-50 requests per second. - We have Squid in front, but since the site will have user accounts, many pages which display user specific information cannot be cached. Currently the site is running on a single PC with 1GB RAM and two processors. It is doing fine with Squid at the front, but the thing is we are about to enable the user account features and don't think the performance will be adequate. We are thinking of adding another machine or two behind a switch and use ZEO to handle Zope calls. Any recommendations or ideas on how to do this (or not) and what kind of machines to use will be very appreciated. Thanks a lot, Carlos de la Guardia Aldea Systems

List editing with page templates
by Richard Wesley 01 Apr '02

01 Apr '02

I need to create a form (using page templates) that does roughly this: <BasicData> <selectable list of homogenous objects to attach to BasicData> <list of homogenous objects already attached to BasicData> The problem is that I can't seem to make the attached list persistent. In my action script for attaching a new list object, I check the request to see if the list is present and append the selected object to the attached object list, but the script never seems to have access to the request passed to the form. Slightly simpler test script (trying to accumulate two form variables): names=[] if request.has_key('names'): names=request.get('names') names.append ({'name':name,'age':age}) request.set('names',names) return container.form() What am I missing?
