Having to keep typing "./start &"
by Rachel Cunliffe 30 Mar '02

30 Mar '02

Hi there, I just installed zope yesterday (running on linux) and found that I could use the area mysite.com:8080/manage for a little while, and then the process would be killed. i.e I'd have to keep typing "./start &" every few minutes to be able to continue doing the tutorial. I found some info that says that I should change the port from 8080 (I'm running cpanel under that port anyways), so I changed it to 9080 as suggested. However, the problem still exists. Can anyone tell me how to fix this problem? (See my shell record below) Thanks *so* much, Rachel bash$ ./start & ------ 2002-03-29T23:41:16 INFO(0) ZODB Opening database for mounting: '142013944_1017373373.101104' ------ 2002-03-29T23:41:16 INFO(0) ZODB Mounted database '142013944_1017373373.101104' at /temp_folder ------ 2002-03-29T23:41:17 INFO(0) ZServer HTTP server started at Fri Mar 29 18:41:17 2002 Hostname: rome Port: 9080 ------ 2002-03-29T23:41:17 INFO(0) ZServer FTP server started at Fri Mar 29 18:41:17 2002 Hostname: rome.dnsvault.com Port: 8021 ------ 2002-03-29T23:41:17 INFO(0) ZServer PCGI Server started at Fri Mar 29 18:41:17 2002 Unix socket: /home/cellsite/zope/var/pcgi.soc Killed

List editing
by Richard Wesley 30 Mar '02

I am trying to make a web page that edits a list: Name Age ---- --- Sean 32 <delete> Richard 40 <delete> Name: ___ Age: ___ <Add> The question is, how do I pass the list at the top around between invocations of the page, especially in the case where there is no list at all! I can see that I could build a list of records in the form and pass that to the action script (to send back to me again), but I am at a loss as to how to generate an argument consisting of an empty list. And I am also concerned that this is not the best way to do this. (I am using Page Templates BTW). Accessing arbitrary Python objects from ZPT
by Michael Lausch 30 Mar '02

how to make attributes of arbitrary complex python objects (assume you don't have access to the python source code of these objects) accessible from zope, without reverting to tricks like marshalling the objects into dictionaries? will a deeper look into the ZSQL source code help me mastering this problem? i have some functions from a python application which give back objects as their return value. i want to access attributes from these objects from ZPT. I'm calling the functions via external methods which return the objects. it is also possible to display the objects themselves (their __str__ or __repr__ function is called). when i want to access a member variable of such an object, zope wants me to authenticate again. i know, this has something to do with security an i also read the appropriate chapter in the zope developer guide, but i don't want to implement a container for each class which transforms objects into dictionaries and perhaps back again. BTW persistance is not needed, it is even a thing i never want for these type of objects. -- Michael Lausch See my web page <http://www.lausch.at/> or query PGP key server for PGP key. Has anyone else had a problem managing View Templates in zope with Mozilla .99 ? Edit the start script and activate logging: Should look something like: exec /usr/local/bin/python2.1 \ $INST_HOME/z2.py \ -D -t5 -L '' \ STUPID_LOG_FILE=zope.log "$@" The essential thing is the "STUPID_LOG_FILE=zope.log". Restart and look into zope.log to learn about startup problems. > I then find Paaage template. > For the above message, I remove Zope-2.4.3 and I can't reobtain it. Stay with Zope-2.5.1b1! It contains Page Templates. Zope 2.4.x (x <= 3) contains serious stability problems. Dieter

Missing objects do not support conversion to float
by theeba 29 Mar '02

Hi, I'm trying to insert a value which is computed using python into a table. The python script looks as follows: - import string return((string.atof(QuantityA) * string.atof(WeightA)) + (string.atof(QuantityB) * string.atof(WeightB)) + (string.atof(QuantityC) * string.atof(WeightC)) + (string.atof(QuantityD) * string.atof(WeightD))) The sql query to insert this value into the table is as shown below: - [Arguments : QuantityA, QuantityB, QuantityC, QuantityD] insert into table (Net_Weight) VALUES (<dtml-in sqlGetSackWeight><dtml-var expr="pyCalculateSackWeight(QuantityA, WeightA, QuantityB, WeightB, QuantityC, WeightC, QuantityD, WeightD)"></dtml-in>) The sqlGetSackWeight is another sql query to retrieve the value of WeightA, WeightB, WeightC and WeightD which is stored in a separate table. These values would be multiplied by the value of the arguments and the total is computed. The problem is, when I test the sql query to do an insert, I get an error as shown below Error Value: Missing objects do not support conversion to float. (Info: ({'script': <PythonScript instance at 08C40F00>, 'context': <r instance at 08EE1D40>, 'container': <Folder instance at 08DD16D0>, 'traverse_subpath': []}, ('1', Missing.Value, '2', 10, '3', Missing.Value, '4', Missing.Value), {}, None)) File Script (Python), line 5, in pyCalculateSackWeight File E:\Zope2.4.1-NEW\bin\lib\string.py, line 199, in atof TypeError: (see above) Why is it that the value for WeightA, WeightC and WeightD seems to be a missing whereas, the value for WeightB (i.e 10) is inserted? I hope you could help me solve this problem as soon as possible. Thank you, Theeba

Assuming you have followed: http://www.zope.org/Members/mcdonc/HowTos/zopeinstall/ZOPE-INSTALL-HOWTO the next thing to look at is http://www.zope.org/Members/jens/docs/newbie_caveats I think your problem may be to do with the fact that the Zope binaries for Linux ship with the -D (=debug) option in the start script enabled by default. With this enabled, when you close the terminal you started zope in, you stop zope. If I am right, then this is an FAQ. Each time I answer it, I plaintively wonder aloud why the -D flag would be the default, but I am generally ignored. Good luck with it anyways.
