Hello ! My freshly installes zope 2.50 works fine with ZServer, but if I access Zope via pcgi (Zope.cgi ) no images are displayed in the Zope environment. I work with Apache and mod_rewrite as shown below: NameVirtualHost 194.31.185.11 <VirtualHost 194.31.185.11> ServerName umwelt.saturn <Directory /home/httpd/cgi-bin> Options +ExecCGI AllowOverride None Order allow, deny Allow from all </Directory> RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/(.*) /home/httpd/cgi-bin/Zope.cgi/$1 \ [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] </VirtualHost> Python 2.1.2 Solaris 2.7 Zope 2.5.0-src Somebody with an idea? Re: [Zope] System performance threads/proccesses & random crashes (SIGPIPE)

Hello Zahid If you've set threads (-t 1) then Zope should run singlethreaded. The prformance of pages beeng rendered should be unchanged. The problem would be that two or more surfers cannot access the site at the same time. Check the Appendix of http://www.zope.org/Members/glpb/solaris. There is a script & explanation on how to test this behaviour. Regards Oliver Erlewein

To Mr. Haqa. [ZStyleSheet possibly bloating ZODB]
by Sidnei da Silva 22 Mar '02

22 Mar '02

Hello Mr. Haqa. I think i found a bug in your ZStyleSheet Product. For some strange reason, after upgrading to the version 4.2.3 of it in sync with Zope 2.5.1b1, my ZODB started to get bigger and bigger with no apparent reason. So, i asked on the #zope irc channel and SteveA told me to use tranalyzer.py to see what was bloating it. So, after running tranalyzer, i found a lot of lines like this: TID: 3438E1065A63CCC @ 139644468 obs 86 len 22979 By Anonymous User "/ucs/tplPadrao/estilos.css/index_html" OID: 214ad len 221 [Products.ZStyleSheet.ZSSAttribute.ZSSAttr] OID: 214ae len 221 [Products.ZStyleSheet.ZSSAttribute.ZSSAttr] OID: 214ac len 225 [Products.ZStyleSheet.ZSSAttribute.ZSSAttr] OID: 21481 len 221 [Products.ZStyleSheet.ZSSAttribute.ZSSAttr] So, the only thing that i can realize about this, is that the ZStyleSheet is writing something to the ZODB with each access my home page. I did not tried to look at the source to figure what the problem is, but i will do it soon while you fix this. Thank you for your great product. System performance threads/proccesses & random crashes (SIGPIPE)
by Zahid Malik 22 Mar '02

I had similar problem with zope 2.5.0 and 2.5.1b1 crashing all the time it was a real pain and really embarrassing (luckily still beta testing). After experimenting around we narrowed it down to the fact the crashes seemed to happen when two of us tried to write (possibly) to the postgres database (using ZPoPy 2.0.8). We could more or less make it happen at will doing with two people on at the same time. My solution: in z2.py set NUMBER_OF_THREADS=1 instead of 4 (default). This fixed it completely never had a crash since. Performance doen't seem affected either although haven't really stress tested performance (we did stress test for crashing and it was fine). My guess is that the problem is in ZPoPy although I'm not sure. When I get the chance I will do a more thorough check and send it to the collector. Good luck and let us know how it goes. I must admit I really hoped that going to 2.5.1b1 would solve the crashing problems, the whole thing seriously made me think twice about zope in a production environment. RE: [Zope] newbie question - one page per DB record
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 21 Mar '02

Since your data is in XML, and supposing you know DOM, this sounds like it might be suitable to stick into a ParsedXML document in a folder in Zope, and then create Python Scripts that do the various pieces of lookup for you from the XML. You then could write a generic set of templates in DTML or Page Templates that would use these Python scripts to render individual product pages, including links to the next product, etc, provided each product listed in your XML had some sort of unique id... If you know DOM, this approach should be pretty easy, and it keeps your data tier, logic tier, and presentation separate... Every page has a navigation link to its predecessor and its successor. I also link to a specific page from other pages (e.g. product1.html). I currently do this by putting all the product info in an XML file to which I apply an XSL file that produces the various HTML files. If I put the products in a database in Zope (Gadfly would do since there are not too many products), what should I do to get to the same results? I.e. each page can be linked to individually from a non-Zope page and each page has a navigation link to the previous and next products. Thanks for helping. Problem with adding importable modules
by David Thibault 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

Hello all, I have a problem regarding allowing the import of extra modules. I've found various examples (like the "Allowing Import of Modules" in the Zope online help) and a mailing list item entitled "Import Libraries into Python Script" (http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/2001-February/009531.html) but these aren't helping me. I'm still getting this error. I'm trying to use the Reportlab toolkit from within a Zope script (NOT an external method). I DON'T want to just import the whole Reportlab toolkit, because within that toolkit there are sys and os sections with what appear to contain very dangerous items. Therefore, I'm following more along the lines of the help in the Zope online help. I created a folder called MyScriptModules in $ZOPE/lib/python/Products/. The __init__.py file therein looks like this: -------------contents of __init__.py------------------------------------- from Products.PythonScripts.Utility import allow_module, allow_class from AccessControl import ModuleSecurityInfo, ClassSecurityInfo from Globals import InitializeClass from reportlab import platypus from reportlab.lib import colors, enums, pagesizes, styles, units from reportlab.pdfgen.canvas import Canvas allow_class(Canvas) allow_class(platypus) allow_class(colors) allow_class(enums) allow_class(pagesizes) allow_class(styles) allow_class(units) ModuleSecurityInfo('reportlab').declarePublic('platypus') ModuleSecurityInfo('reportlab.lib').declarePublic('colors','enums','pagesize s',' styles','units') ModuleSecurityInfo('reportlab.pdfgen.canvas').declarePublic('Canvas') -------------end __init__.py contents--------------------------------- I only wanted to import the bare essentials of my current program and some other classes that looked harmless but useful (like colors, enums, etc). I first started with ReportLab by creating a shell-based python script, which ran perfectly and created my PDF file. Now I'm porting it to Zope and I'm getting errors. Here's a curtailed example of the script. This short example creates the same error I'm getting in the full version of the script: ------------begin sample problem script----------------------------- #_______DO ALL THE IMPORTS__________________________________________________ from reportlab import platypus from reportlab.lib import styles, units, pagesizes from reportlab.pdfgen.canvas import Canvas import string #_______END IMPORTS SECTION_________________________________________________ #_______SET UP GLOBAL VARIABLES_____________________________________________ PAGE_WIDTH = pagesizes.letter[0] PAGE_HEIGHT = pagesizes.letter[1] txt_styles = styles.getSampleStyleSheet() styleTITLE = txt_styles['Heading1'] #_______END GLOBAL VARIABLES________________________________________________ return "I didn't crash" -----------------------end sample problem script--------------------------- When I try to test it Zope tries to make me log in again, I do so, and it asks me to log in repeatedly. If I finally click "Cancel", it gives me this: ------------------begin error condition experienced--------------------------- Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: Unauthorized Error Value: You are not allowed to access Heading1 in this context (cut out "Troubleshooting Suggestions") Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook (Object: feedback) File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 98, in publish File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: test.py) File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: test.py) File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 252, in __call__ (Object: test.py) File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/Shared/DC/Scripts/Bindings.py, line 283, in _bindAndExec (Object: test.py) File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/Products/PythonScripts/PythonScript.py, line 291, in _exec (Object: test.py) (Info: ({'script': <PythonScript instance at 8ed0008>, 'context': <Folder instance at 8ecd2d0>, 'container': <Folder instance at 8ecd2d0>, 'traverse_subpath': []}, (), {}, None)) File Script (Python), line 17, in test.py File /usr/local/Zope-2.5.0-src/lib/python/AccessControl/ZopeGuards.py, line 94, in guarded_getitem Unauthorized: (see above) ------------------end error condition experienced----------------------------- It never returns the phrase "I didn't crash." However, if I comment out the line "styleTITLE = txt_styles['Heading1']" it does complete successfully. That means that the "pagesizes" stuff did import properly, because the PAGE_HEIGHT and PAGE_WIDTH get calculated properly (I can even return those successfully). Sorry for the long email, but I wanted to give a complete description of what I'm up against here. I suspect there's some problem in my __init__.py that's preventing me from accessing subobjects of what I've imported, but I'm not sure how to resolve it. Thanks, Dave

RE: [Zope] caching ?
by sean.upton＠uniontrib.com 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

Please be more specific; Zope uses object-caching at the ZODB level; there is SQL query caching; there is also built-in application-level caching via cache-managers that can store method results in a ram cache or page renderings via an HTTP accelerator like Squid or Apache/mod_proxy... Pages 47-50 of the printed edition of the Zope book have enough to get started on what you likely want. Also, as a future courtesy, please send plain-text messages to the list instead of HTML...
