How to convert an Image to an Photo programmatically ?
by Joachim Schmitz 21 Mar '02

Hi, I have a bunch of images in the ZODB, which I want to convert to Photos in the Photo product. The following script: request = context.REQUEST # Upgrade Photos for photo in context.objectItems(['Image']): # Convert old photo object to new. print photo photoid = photo[0] photo = photo[1] if photo.data: id = context.Photos.manage_addProduct['Photo'].manage_addPhoto( photoid, photo.title, photo.data, store='Image', engine='PIL', REQUEST=request) ##newphoto = getattr(context, id) results in: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: read ..... ZCatalog Update hangs Zope
by oliver.erlewein＠sqs.de 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

Hi all When Updating the ZCatalog manually from the management interface Zope hangs itself up. Apache reaches the timeout and returns an error after 5 Minutes. Zope never comes back. After a restart all's fine again. I don't know whether ZCatalog did an update. Same thing happens when Cataloging the whole Site. (Zope 2.4.0 (Solaris)) I have manny "unable to uncatalogObject" errors in my Stupid.log. Regards Oliver Erlewein

testing for folders
by Tom Cameron 21 Mar '02

I am trying to traverse all children of a folder and find all users in all userfolders. I have discovered the following attributes: isAUserFolder isAnObjectManager isPrincipiaFolderish Which I guess were created for this type of task. But I am not sure what the difference is between 'isAnObjectManager' and 'isPrincipiaFolderish'. Could someone explain when I should use each of them. Thanks Tom

How to start zope in more than one group
by Fischer Ulrich 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

Hi normaly, zope is started as root and runs as user 'nobody' or a predefined user 'zuser'. I use zope (Zope 2.3.3) in the second way on SUSE Linux7.2. Zope is connected to Apache. The 'zuser' is in the user groups A, B, C, ... The membership in group 'A' is defined in the passwd file ('user's primary group'), the other memberships are defined in the group file. My problem is, that z2.py reads only the 'user's primary group' in the passwd file. But I need for full functionality all the grouprights of the user 'zuser'. Is there a possibilty to fix this? Do I have to change z2.py, when, how (I only know how to write 'python') z2.py (the part where the gid is set) : : # Try to set uid to "-u" -provided uid. # Try to set gid to "-u" user's primary group. # This will only work if this script is run by root. try: import pwd try: try: UID = string.atoi(UID) except: pass gid = None if type(UID) == type(""): uid = pwd.getpwnam(UID)[2] gid = pwd.getpwnam(UID)[3] elif type(UID) == type(1): uid = pwd.getpwuid(UID)[2] gid = pwd.getpwuid(UID)[3] else: raise KeyError try: if gid is not None: try: os.setgid(gid) except OSError: pass os.setuid(uid) except OSError: pass except KeyError: zLOG.LOG("z2", zLOG.ERROR, ("can't find UID %s" % UID)) except: pass : : Thanks Best regards Ulrich _______________________________________________________________ Ulrich G. System performance threads/proccesses & random crashes (SIGPIPE)
by Doyon, Jean-Francois 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

Hello, I'm running into random crashes of my zope processes, but I'm not finding any reference anywhere in the mailing list archives or on the site about this specific one: I'm getting: 2002-03-21T14:48:52 ERROR(200) zdaemon zdaemon: Thu Mar 21 09:48:52 2002: Aiieee! 20070 exited with error code: 13 Every now and then, for now apparent reason. signal 13 is a SIGPIPE ... This is Zope 2.5.0 with CMF 1.2 on a severly upgraded/updated/patched RH6.2 ... with a Python 2.1.2 built with defaults. It runs with FastCGI to Apache 1.3.2x ... Usually I just wait a couple of seconds, hit referesh in my browser and things come back to normal, but it's still annoying, and doesn't look good to the public. Note that when this happens, it ususally seems to happen to ALL processes. It looks to me like the PIPE's between the master zope process and it's children dies, and they all have to restart for some reason. Could this be ? and if so , why ? Note that I started noticing this when I for the first time started using Psycopg to create RDBMS connections to my PostgreSQL ... Could there be a relation somehow? On a slightly similar topic, How to I manage performance? I plan on using Zope for a fairly high demand web site .. I noticed I can control how many processes/threads start, but then I also read somethign about the ZODB pool_size ... What is the relation between the two exactly ? (Sorry forgot the Subject - therefore repost) Hi Paul I tried to find out more on my systems but all I have are the values below. I rechecked all of them. 1) SUN 420R, 4x450Mhz UltraSparc II, 4GB RAM, Sol. 8 2) DELL 19" rack, 1xPIII 1Ghz, 512Mb RAM, Sol. 7 Both have the same problem with threading. The computers were set up by two different ISP's. So the problem probably won't be a specific config thing!?? Oliver Erlewein

generic properties viewer?
by Reinoud van Leeuwen 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

Hi, often when I am working in Zope, I find myself constantly googling for all kinds of documentation on the objects I am working with. And I keep asking myself "is there a more simpel way?" What I am looking for is a Zope product that lets me view all methods and attributes of a given class. For instance for the object type DTML-Document it should list something like: - attribute id (inherited from class objectmanager) - attribute title (inherited from class objectmanager - method view (inherited from...) etc. It would be even better when it could produce a tree of the class-hierarchy. I am sure that I must not be the first who has had this idea. Has somebody implemented something like this yet? TIA, Reinoud -- __________________________________________________ "Nothing is as subjective as reality" Reinoud van Leeuwen reinoud.v(a)n.leeuwen.net http://www.xs4all.nl/~reinoud __________________________________________________

Image instead of ImageFile for product icon?
by Jean-François Ménard 21 Mar '02

21 Mar '02

I use PIL to create on-the-fly icons for my python product. So in my product __init__, instead of ImageFile icons, I create Image icons. Everything seems fine, but when I try to use it, I get a login dialog and, on cancel: Unauthorized You are not authorized to access this resource. Username and password are not correct. Traceback (innermost last): File C:\PROGRA~1\Zope\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File C:\PROGRA~1\Zope\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 114, in publish File C:\PROGRA~1\Zope\lib\python\ZPublisher\Publish.py, line 89, in publish File C:\PROGRA~1\Zope\lib\python\ZPublisher\BaseRequest.py, line 404, in traverse File C:\PROGRA~1\Zope\lib\python\ZPublisher\HTTPResponse.py, line 511, in unauthorized Unauthorized: (see above) It seems that it's a security problem... Any clues?
