How to allow users to change their passwords?

Hello, friends, I am attempting to implement the recipe for allowing users to change their passwords documented at <URL: http://www.zope.org/Members/msx/ChangeOwnPassword-mini-howto> However, it does not work for me. I believe I have coded the form and handler exactly as given in the howto (since I copy& pasted the code from the howto page), and I have given the handler method (changePassAction) the "Manager" proxy role. But when the "submit" button is pressed, I get the "Authentication failed" dialog, and nothing I enter in the subsequent login dialog will allow me to proceed. Cancelling the login dialog results in "Site Error: Unauthorized." Assistance would be appreciated. Incidentally, the platform is Windows NT4, and the Zope version is 2.5.0. 2.5.0 vs. 2.3.3 oddity w/structured text

I've got some structured text of the form Head1 Some text (indented 2). Head2 (indented 1) Some more text (indented 2) Head3 (indented 1) etc., and it all works fine under Zope 2.3.3. However, under 2.5.0, each succeeding Head2/3/4, etc., is one level lower, i.e., it gets rendered <h3>Head1</h3> <p>Some text (indented 2)</p> <h4>Head2</h4> <p>Some more text (indented 2)</p> <h5>Head3</h5> ... but *not always*. I can't figure out what the differences between the cases might be. It's possible that it's something to do with the fact that I moved the Data.fs from a Win2K box to my Linux server box, but under 2.3.3 it all works perfectly. Under 2.5.0 it doesn't. ZSQL Methods and SELECT functions

Hi all, I am using Zope 2.5.0 and the latest ZMySQLDA. I have a few related questions. 1) If I insert a new row into the mysql database that has an auto_insert column (say 'id'), how do I get the automatically generated id? In mysql you would use the LAST_INSERT_ID() function, but this doesnt work in a zsql method 2) The reason 1) doesnt work is that zsql methods (and the underlying python-mysql db interface) doesnt seem to allow select functions. Something like SELECT 1+1 doesnt work. Is there any way of getting this to work? 3) Actually, I see from the python mysql db interface that the cursor object has an insert_id() method. Does the ZMySQL DA allow any way of getting at this method? 4) Finally, the mysql docs say the last_insert_id() returns the last automatically generated id on a per-connection basis. If in zope only a single connection is made and a lot of clients are accessing it at once, how do I guarantee I get back the correct id? I thought you could concatenate multiple SQL queries in one zsql method, but that doesnt seem to work anymore. Thanks! Robert _________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Permissions problem with 2.5.1b1

Hi everyone, I just upgraded to Zope 2.5.1b1 from 2.3.3 today and the following DTML is now producing a permissions problem that is causing the browser to ask for my Manager password. The following is a DTML Method that queries a TinyTable to retrieve some events which are filtered according to their dates. The events are printed only if their date is in the future (visit_date.isFuture()), but within 30 days (visit_date-ZopeTime() < 30). Dear List, does anybody know how to perform a link with a popup window within structuredText? "myLinkText":javascript:openwindow() does not work because the brackets "()" are not rendered by the stx of zope. Is it possible to render also the "()" or does anybody know to implicit call a function via variable i.e. without the brackets. Thanks for your help, Elena

How to: ZServerSSL?

I keep seeing references to using SSL with Zserver, but I cant seem to find out how to.... When reading M2Crypto documentation, I notice that it is for NT versions of Zope (using Linux...) I thought I saw somewhere that Zope 2.5 supported SSL, but now I cant find that reference either.... I hacked through a workaround using APACHE and ZServer but it only kinda worked and I didnt feel comfortable running an instance of apache just for SSL There is some discussion, rather old, integration of an SSL server in Zope, did that ever happen? If it did, where do I find out how to use it? OR perhaps I should consider something else? What I am trying to do is use authentication over a secured channel to determine an enduser and their roles *without* asking them to login in again..... I know from the HTTP_REFER variable that they have already validated and I dont wnat to make them login in again..... If anyone has any slick suggestion on how I might do this easily, I would greatly appreciate it.... TIA WPH

Here is a low hassle work around if you run Redhat Linux 7.2 Install the Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86.tgz or latest. Just untar it, start it, connect and you are en-route. This version of Zope already has the needed Python 2.2 installed and Zope does a fine job of finding and executing the local Python 2.2. I run RH 7.2 and I have installed Zope 2.5.0 in an oddball disk area that has no path. Zope uses it's own copy of Python. In short: all by itself the tar file seems to be a pretty complete package. ---- I have had to do some Python filename tinkering and installing in the course of installing a PostgreSQL database Product. What seems to be going on is some Zope products are developed under Debian. When compiling a database adapter, the compiler expected to see header files in the Debian location. I just found the files with locate, fixed the "include" statements and proceeded to compile. When I have my Database connection tested and working, then I will try and post back the detail fixes so other RH 7.2 users can save a few hours. If anything puzzles me it is the use of the phrase "Zope binary". It seems to me that Zope is written in an interpreted language called Python. The tar file is a bunch of Python scripts: Zope is a scripts, most Products are scripts, there is a Python executable I guess. Of course I am not sure I understand it all that well, I have not suceeded in "grepping the source" and understanding what I see... yet.

Zope "picky" on Redhat Linux with Python1.5.2 and 2.2

I'm running Redhat Linux 7 and have installed Python2.2. However, the default Python on my system is Python1.5.2 (ie. if you type "python" at the command prompt, that's what you'll get). My scripts that wish to use Python2 usually have to state it explicitly with #!/usr/bin/python2. Why do I do this ? because Redhat use Python to create a lot of their software programs and some of them apparently only work with Python1.5.2 (which is what they distribute by default). Anyways, I now wish to install Zope2.5.0. I first downloaded the linux version Zope-2.5.0-linux2-x86 but notice that it is a precompiled binary and uses an install script (named "install" unsurprisingly) which uses the environmental Python home. What do most people do with Zope logs?
