What do most people do with Zope logs?
by Chris Ryland 17 Mar '02

17 Mar '02

Since I'm now using Zope behind Apache (www.emsoftware.com) using a set of RewriteRules, shouldn't I turn off (-l /dev/null) the Zope log, which is mostly redundant? It builds up might fast... -- Cheers! Chris Ryland Em Software, Inc. www.emsoftware.com

Zope slooooowww
by Ron Arts 16 Mar '02

16 Mar '02

Hi, I installed Zope 2.5.1b2 + CMF1.2 + Plone 0.9.9PR5 Restart zope: 90 seconds. Log into /manage: 7 (!) minutes. Next pages in /manage: 5-20 seconds Site itself: 5-10 seconds During all these attempts, z2.py is in the top of `top`. I tried to add RAM cache manager, but only Members/index_html shows as cacheable when I try to associate. All this on a Pentium 233, 128MB, no swapping. Hardly any other activity on this machine. Is there a way to profile this? I know nothing about python, but am a proficient sysadmin, C, perl, PHP programmer. Thanks, Ron Arts

Templates and Attributes
by Colin Fox 16 Mar '02

16 Mar '02

Hello, everyone. I'm trying to create a page for editing a database entry. The form I'm using has a pair of radio buttons for a person's gender. I'm using the page template's tal:attribute feature to set the default values of all the text input fields, and that works great. But I can't figure out how to do this with the radio buttons, since they don't use the format 'value="CHECKED"', they simply use 'CHECKED'. The tal:attribute command seems to want the 'field=value' format, which HTML doesn't want. Here's a line from my template page: <td> <input type="radio" name="gender" value="M" ischecked tal:attributes="ischecked python:here.checkbox_test(here.gender,'M')" tabindex="3"> Male</td> I tried to trick it with an artificial 'ischecked' flag (hoping it would simply be replaced), but I end up with 'ischecked="CHECKED"'. Has anyone done this, or can anyone point me to some code that does it? I haven't found any examples or tutorials yet that describe this specific problem. Internationalization, locale support etc.
by Ron Arts 16 Mar '02

16 Mar '02

Hello, I am confused about the many products available for localization. Suppose I want to build a multi-language site (which might use CMF, but not plone). It should have monetary support, searches, but only for latin alphabets, so no cyrillic, chinese, arab etc. Which product(s) should I install? I found: Localize InternationalObjects zBabel Unicode Support VaryTag zzLocale ISO8859-1-Splitter Internationalization ZClasses Voodoo Kludge Splitter.py Thanks, Ron Arts

Anybody know whom I should contact about a very odd bug in the portal at cmf.zope.org? There's no contact information on the site (and not much else of use, that I can find). -- Bruce What would Edward Woodward do?

Fun with proxy, Apache and Zope :-/
by Max M 15 Mar '02

I have a site running with Apache. <VirtualHost *> ServerName www.mxm.dk DocumentRoot C:/inetpub/wwwroot/www_mxm_dk DirectoryIndex default.htm default.html index.html index.htm RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/kunder/ots/(.*) http://192.168.1.60:8080/$1 [P,L] </VirtualHost> Behind it I have another machine running with Zope. If I do: http://www.mxm.dk/ I get my apache-served static file allright. If I do http://www.mxm.dk/ots/ I also get the page served by Zope. But any relative link on the page has the adress: http://192.168.1.60:8080/somelink when I would expect them to have the adress: http://www.mxm.dk/ots/somelink Somehow Apache returns the ip adress of my private IP, and what I am interrested in is the domain name. It's probably something simple, but the docs at: http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/mod/mod_rewrite.html are somewhat unclear as to what I am doing wrong ... please ... regards Max M

Re: [Zope] Form validation
by Lee Marzke 15 Mar '02

Hi, I've managed to get Formulator to work with ZSQL (postgresql) methods for Add and listing contents as documented in the HOWTO. Are their any examples for using Formulator to update database records ? You nee to populate the form with the current values first, then post the results back normally. I've found one work around that seems to do this with a separate for forms for adding and updating, but I was hoping for some solution that does both with one form. Has anyone done this, or can you point me to a page that might have more information.
