Barnes & Nobles Putting Zope Books in the wrong place!!!!!!
by Robert Geiger 04 Mar '02

04 Mar '02

I don't know who knows anybody at B&N, but maybe the authors of the ZOPE related books can all call the booksellers and get them to put the Zope books in the correct section! Currently, B&N keeps the ZOPE books in the Networking systems section, a hodge podge of books that have absolutely nothing to do with Web App development. I brought this to the attention of the section manager, and, although he agreed with me, he told me there are other people higher up the food chain that decide these things, and that he could not move them. The computer inventory system would have to tell him where to put the books. There is a Web Development section, and a Languages section. Either one would be more apropos for Zope books. The Python section has grown considerably, and if placed in the language section, would be within a shelf of the well-browsed python language books. The Web development section is fairly huge, and mostly related to various ASP, PHP, and other tools, and, given it's size, would be harder to stand out in, although it would be a more apropriate section. On the plus side, being at the END of a section (Z) is a good thing. So, after having to browse EVERY section at B&N, and finding Zope in the 'wrong' one, I'd like it to be easier for EVERYONE to find these books. Enough said, just wanting to let somebody know. I tried, now it's the communities turn! -- Robert Geiger

TAL compilation error
by Tom Nixon 04 Mar '02

I am compiling a page template and I get this message: Compilation failed TAL.TALDefs.METALError: METAL attributes on <div> require explicit </div>, at line 203, column 1 I have checked my code and there is definitely a matching </div> for every <div> on the page. Does anyone know how to go about debugging this? The tag at line 203, column 1 is <div metal:fill-slot="main"> if that makes any difference. T.

Including images into stx
by Tom Deprez 04 Mar '02

04 Mar '02

Hi, Are there people who already have experience with using images into stx? I'm trying to use the stx_to_html method on zope2.5 but it returns me an Attribute error concerning expandtabs. Are there other ways to include images inside stx? I really need this to convince the people. They now make every tutor page (consisting of some parts text and images) in html. They themself realise that this will not be maintainable in the future (when non-html users must make the page). So I proposed STX. Which is concerning the text part very handy (they only need some bullet lists and bold text)... but now I'm a little bit uncertan concerning putting images inside STX... Is there somebody who can give me a small example? I'm afraid that if I'm not able to find a solution on this, people will use other products. Other ideas are welcome! Regards, Tom.

Make a Python Script and submit to it, getting the parameters out of context.REQUEST and doing whatever you feel like with them. LocalFS problem while booting server
by Reinoud van Leeuwen 04 Mar '02

04 Mar '02

Hi, I have installed Zope 2.5.0 (with Python 2.1.2) on a FreeBSD 4.2 server behind Apache 1.3.20 with PCGI. Zope is started at boot time from /etc/rc.local with the command /usr/local/zope/bin/zopectl start After booting, LocalFS does not work. ErrorMessage is: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/OFS/Application.py", line 531, in import_product product=__import__(pname, global_dict, global_dict, silly) File "/usr/local/WWW/zopetest.domain.com/Products/LocalFS/__init__.py", line 65, in ? traceback.print_exc() File "/usr/lib/python2.1/traceback.py", line 210, in print_exc print_exception(etype, value, tb, limit, file) File "/usr/lib/python2.1/traceback.py", line 122, in print_exception _print(file, 'Traceback (most recent call last):') File "/usr/lib/python2.1/traceback.py", line 13, in _print file.write(str+terminator) IOError: [Errno 5] Input/output error (As you can see, the LocalFS product is installed in the Products directory of one site only) But when I log in as root and issue the command /usr/local/zope/bin/zopectl restart manually it works (only with a warning: /usr/local/zope/zope/lib/python/ts_regex.py:15: DeprecationWarning: the regex module is deprecated; please use the re module import regex, regsub #, Sync /usr/lib/python2.1/regsub.py:15: DeprecationWarning: the regsub module is deprecated; please use re.sub() DeprecationWarning) But then it *does* work. Can anybody give me a clue what is different in starting it from rc.local and by hand? Dreamweaver - ANYTHING!- and SSL (Was RE: [Zope] Cut the Dreamweaver bashing ;-))

Hi Ron (and everyone): I'd like to tap into your experience of DW, ZPT and SSL (I only just noticed your SSLAbsoluteURL product) if I may. We (i.e. the University of Bristol) are trying to decide about which authoring tool to support for use with Zope. We have a requirement that any tool must work securely - no passwords floating about in the clear. We have found this requirement to be to be severely limiting - Dreamweaver, GoLive et al just don't support https (good 'ol cadaver and vi have no such problems). So first question: is this assessment correct? We have had some success if we insert WebDrive into the equation - GoLive and even FrontPage (if you open via the File menu rather than a drag and drop) seem to then work fine over https, but NOT Dreamweaver. In trying to understand the DW problem I tried making DW's local folder a Webdrive mounted Zope folder. As far as I can see DW insists on creating a .TMP file (to hold the edits of any original object) which then gets renamed on being saved - but then you loose the original ZPT object metatype. Second question: has anyone a working workaround for the DW problem? I think I can see how to attack it with PUT_factory but I don't have deep Zen in this department (or any other!).
