Use the ZODB as an ODBC data source
by Tom Smith 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

Now wouldn't that be a good idea? It'd be a GREAT integration technology, being able to access the ZODB from PHP or ASP... Is it feasible? tom -- tom smith | tom(a)othermedia.com http://www.othermedia.com/blog 3rd Floor, The Pavilion, Newhams Row, London, SE1 3UZ 0207 089 5959

Seeing a DTML-LET from a Python Script?
by Jean Jordaan 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

Hi all Quick question: if I do this: <dtml-let somevariable="'whatever'"> <dtml-var pythonScript> </dtml-let> how do I get at the value of somevariable in pythonScript? I'd assume by binding the namespace _ and doing _['something'] but that raises a key-error .. The nearest info I could find on this in a websearch is: http://www.zope-forum.org/forum/viewthread.php?FID=24&TID=519 but I couldn't quite figure that out .. File Upload from Python
by Zanotti Michele 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

Hi all, Perhaps this is a Python question, not a Zope problem, but I hope someone can help me. I'm tryng to upload a file from PythonWin Ide (I have setted my Zope-test permissions to anonymous). I obtain a 400 error with this page: "...Invalid request id omitted...": but I don't understand where are my error(s). This is my code: >>> import httplib >>> bd='--7d01ecf406a6' >>> body=bd+'\r\ncontent-disposition: form-data; name="id"\r\n\r\naloha\r\n'+bd+'\r\ncontent-disposition: form-data; name="title"\r\n\nxx\r\n'+bd+'\r\ncontent-disposition: form-data; name="submit"\r\n\r\n add\r\n' >>> body=body+bd+'\r\ncontent-disposition: form-data; name="file"; filename="prova.txt"\r\ncontent-type: text/plain\r\n\r\nprova\r\n'+bd+'--' >>> conn = httplib.HTTPConnection("mypc:8080") >>> conn.putrequest("POST", "/manage_addFile") >>> conn.putheader('content-type','multipart/form-data; boundary='+bd) >>> conn.putheader('content-length',str(lenb)) >>> conn.endheaders() >>> conn.send(body) >>> r=conn.getresponse() >>> r.status 400 >>> print r.read() ...Invalid request The parameter, id, was omitted from the request.... Can anyone help me? Thanks and excuse if my errors are so trivial... Michele P.S. perhaps a better solution for batch upload is Curl or pyCurl, but I find pycurl has too poor documentation for my level... Has anyone used it?

Symlink product returns "Attribute Error"
by Joel Burton 28 Feb '02

Symlink product isn't working for me. When I go to add a symlink, I get an Attribute Error: Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: testa Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 150, in publish_module File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 114, in publish File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/Zope/__init__.py, line 158, in zpublisher_exception_hook File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 98, in publish File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/mapply.py, line 88, in mapply (Object: manage_addSymlink) File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 39, in call_object (Object: manage_addSymlink) File /usr/local/zope/instance/Products/Symlink/__init__.py, line 22, in manage_addSymlink File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/OFS/ObjectManager.py, line 235, in _setObject (Object: bury) File /usr/local/zope/2.5.0/lib/python/OFS/ObjectManager.py, line 215, in _getOb (Object: bury) AttributeError: (see above) bury is the folder I'm trying to add the symlink to, testa is the object I'm trying to symlink to. It would appear that the problem is that _setObject() call doesn't work, and is unable to find the newly added symlink after it's added. I've looked at the source code (it's a very short product) but don't see anything wrong with the constructor. I assume this has something to do with the deep magic of playing with the __of__ acquisition in the symlink. I'm running Zope 2.5.0. Anyone have any success with this version, or ideas of where to start? Thanks! Joel BURTON | joel(a)joelburton.com | joelburton.com | aim: wjoelburton Independent Knowledge Management Consultant

(no subject)

How can I add a subobject to a container where the subobject id is the same as a container property so that the subobject will be used instead of the the container property? Is this a good idea, and/or is there a better way? class Container(...ObjectManager, PropertyManager...) """A Folderish Object Product """ ... _properties = ( {'id:'title', 'type':'string', 'mode':'w'}, {'id:'default', 'type':'string', 'mode':'w'}, ) ... __init__(self, id, title='', default=''): self.id=id self.title=title self.default=default ... Now in Zope I add a 'Container' object with id ZContainer and set ZContainer.default = 'The default value.' In most instances this is sufficient, but on occassion is is necessary to get the value of content from a more complex object such as a Document. In such a case I would like to be able to simply add a Document object to ZContainer with 'default' as its id so that when ZContainer.default is called, the contents of the Document are returned instead of the value of the default property. If this is not a good idea, what are the alternatives? Regards, Jarrod Kinsley BTI Communications Company

Zope and MySQL
by Richard Hewison 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

We hadn't dabbled with Zope and database connectivity before, so we decided to initially try getting it connecting to MySQL. After some initial problems, we got this working fine with one exception. If our server has to be restarted for any reason, then the rpm of MySQL that we installed stops working (amongst other things, the socket seems to disappear off the server!). So, each time the server is restarted (not very often thankfully), we have to reinstall MySQL. Anyone hazard a guess why it's doing this? Richard H.
