A possible bug in AccessControl.User
by Dirksen 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

Hi, There's a line(#629) in AccessControl.User, within method validate(), saying: if emergency and user is emergency:.... I find out that, when I log in as emgergency user, 'user is emergency' always fails, even though logically user = emergency = self._emergency_user! I furthor discover that it seems to happen to all extention classes, i.e.: a = b = SomeExtentionClass() a is b will return 0. Well, this's not really a bug, since everything works fine, but there must be something wrong. Either a bug in extention class, or that line in user.py is useless. I'd like to hear some explanation. Cheers Dirksen __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Greetings - Send FREE e-cards for every occasion! http://greetings.yahoo.com

Data.fs Recovering...
by Miguel Rodríguez 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

My zope doesn't starts and I believe that my Data.fs file is broken. So I have tried to recover it using the fsrecover.py script, but I get the following error: [root@ZOPE zope]# python lib/python/ZODB/fsrecover.py /var/zope/var/Data.fs Traceback (most recent call last): File "lib/python/ZODB/fsrecover.py", line 92, in ? import FileStorage File "/usr/share/zope/lib/python/ZODB/FileStorage.py", line 197, in ? from zLOG import LOG, WARNING, ERROR, PANIC, register_subsystem ImportError: No module named zLOG Then I tried with tranalyzer.py but with this script I have another problem. my Data.fs is 1354027379 but when I execute: python tranalyzer.py Data.fs | tail -500 as last transaction I get: TID: 3426D352AE07955 @ 4923894 obs 2 len 601 By mrodriguez "/GestDoc/Index/1/manage_changeIcon" OID: 1889 len 256 OID: 1a97 len 201 16 322732752888 of course there is a "little" difference between 4923894 and 134027379, so I can´t make Data.fs truncate. Any idea?? **************************** DISCLAIMER ****************************** This message is intended exclusively for the named person. Uhm, now comes a real newbie question tho. How do i "unset" a variable? I must be blind in my Zope Book and assorted online resources. What i am trying to do is a simple "sort ASC/DESC" toggle on a sql-result page. > Please keep your questions on the list to help others. I would set it to a zero-length string. Zope handles the following OK on my machine. <a href="<dtml-var URL0>?sort_order_asc=1">ascending</a> <a href="<dtml-var URL0>?sort_order_asc=">descending</a> -- Jim Washington

RE: [Zope] Help! The suits are taking away my Zope! - THANKS
by Dunigan, Craig 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

I replied to seb, because his message summarizes the suggestions I've received. Thanks to all who responded, even if it was only commiseration. I'm looking at webdrive, but we have 500+ plus PCs in nine locations encompassing six countries and three US states, so I'm not sure that's really gonna fly.... Yes, seb, I did search the archives first, but your response prompted me to try again, and I have discovered that Zope 2.4+ includes a workaround for some of the M$-DAV problems. No one apparently noticed that I said I was still on Zope 2.3. I've done some preliminary tests with Zope 2.5 that are successful with Office 2K so far. It won't solve the Outlook problem, but I haven't seen any evidence yet that even SharePoint can do that, so I may be safe there. I do believe that DC or someone else should look at adding SMB to Zope. M$, especially Office, is the standard in the corporate world, and as long as someone with an impressive title but little technical knowledge can claim that Zope doesn't work with some facet of Office, no matter how obscure, they'll have an excuse to remove or refuse Zope. For anyone else reading and wondering about a solution - it looks like WebDrive and Zope 2.5 are the best ideas I've been given so far. However, it may still come down to some very good advice from Ron, who didn't copy the list on his response, but who I will quote here (with his permission): >Having been down the route you now find yourself, I can only give you this >advice: Take benchmarks of current performance levels and record them somewhere >where you won't forget about it. Record how much the Linux/Zope software is >costing your company (THAT should be easy to calculate:)). Then, give in to the >Beast of Redmond and switch over everything to M$. > >Yes, I am as die-hard Linux fan as you certainly are, however you are competing >not against your company management, but against Microsoft. You know that, and I know that, but your management doesn't know that and >there really isn't anything that you can do about it. > >What you can do is save your job, bite your tongue, and do the switch. Just >keep track of how much it costs your company and the reduction in performance. >Then you can pull out the Linux/Zope data and you will have an "I told you so" >when things (inevitably) go wrong. <small snip> >Sorry that I couldn't be of more help, but your problems are due to a failure of >management, not technological. No amount of coaching from this list will cure >that. >Ron <sigh> Well put, Ron. The core of the problem is marketing brainwashing, which isn't my area. Well, I can at least fight it until they tell me I have no other choice. Sorry for cluttering the list with my long, sad tale. Thanks again to all. Simple Example problem: ZooExhibit ZClass
by Derek Simkowiak 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

I am trying to create a simple ZClass as per Chapter 12 of _The Zope Book_. I can create the ZClass, but I cannot add one to my folders. When I go to the root folder and select "Zoo Exhibit" from the "Select type to add..." list, it asks for the id. (So my auto-generated ZooExhibit_addForm DTML Method is working.) But when I click on the "Add" button, thus [theoretically] invoking the auto-generated ZooExhibit_add DTML Method, I get the following "Site Error" page displayed to me as simple text -- that is, the HTML is not rendered by my browser, I actually see the raw HTML code in my right-side browser frame: --------------------------------------------------------- <TABLE BORDER="0" WIDTH="100%"> <TR VALIGN="TOP"> <TD WIDTH="10%" ALIGN="CENTER">   </TD> <TD WIDTH="90%"> <H2>Site Error</H2> <P>An error was encountered while publishing this resource. </P> <P><STRONG>NameError</STRONG></P> Sorry, a site error occurred.<p> <HR NOSHADE> <P>Troubleshooting Suggestions</P> <UL> <LI>The URL may be incorrect.</LI> <LI>The parameters passed to this resource may be incorrect.</LI> <LI>A resource that this resource relies on may be encountering an error.</LI> </UL> <P>For more detailed information about the error, please refer to the HTML source for this page. </P> <P>If the error persists please contact the site maintainer. Thank you for your patience. </P> </TD></TR> </TABLE> --------------------------------------------------------- Notice the NameError: global name 'ZooExhibit' is not defined I don't know what this means or why it's not working. I believe I have followed the instructions in the tutorial exactly. It's not a permissions thing because I have tried both (a) giving the Manager account the ability to "Add Zoo Exhibit", and (b) changing the "ZooExhibit_factory" permission to be "Add Documents, Images, and Files", with no change in behavior. I would be very grateful if somebody could advise me on how to troubleshoot this problem. Here is my system info: [dereks@dereks dereks]$ rpm -qa | grep -i zope Zope-zserver-2.4.3-1 Zope-2.4.3-1 [dereks@dereks dereks]$ cat /etc/mandrake-release Mandrake Linux release 8.1 (Vitamin) for i586 [dereks@dereks dereks]$ rpm -q python python-devel python-2.1.1-3mdk python-devel-2.1.1-3mdk Thank You, Derek Simkowiak

Portable way to get to OFS/dtml
by Joel Burton 28 Feb '02

28 Feb '02

Simple question for Python Product developers: Want to make sure that a properties management view in my product can't have properties added, only edited. Looked in OFS/PropertyManager.py and found the reference to property_extensible_schema__. Added to my product: manage_propertiesForm=DTMLFile('../../OFS/dtml/properties', globals(), property_extensible_schema__=0) Which works fine. Question is: what's the best way to handle getting to OFS/dtml rather than this ugly ugly breakable hack.
