[ANNOUNCE] ArielPartners releases ExternalFile 0.9

This is the third public release of our ExternalFile <http://www.zope.org/Members/arielpartners/ExternalFile> product. Why not simply use ExtFile <http://www.zope.org/Members/MacGregor/ExtFile>? Because ExternalFile supports pointing to a file "in situ" like a symbolic link, rather than copying it into some central repository directory. This may not seem like a big deal, until you consider that those files might be stored in a revision control system like CVS. ExternalFile gives you the ability to create a Zope object that points to a file in, for example, a CVS sandbox for its content. This new release is compatible with CVSFile-0-7. It also features "workalike" capabilities. ExternalFile can behave like any of the following: * DTMLDocument * DTMLMethod * Image ExternalFile is usable by itself. It is also the base class for CVSFile <http://www.zope.org/Members/arielpartners/CVSFile>.

I think you'll find these are 'r for Record' instances returned from the sql object. From memory you should be able to do things like for r in results: print r['MySQLFieldName'] print r[0] or alternately r[0]['MySQLFieldName'] or r[0][0] to access the first record field values. Where each record contains a field called 'MySQLFieldName' and r[0] gets you the 'first' SQL field value returned from your query as a string, r[1] gets the second SQL field value etc. etc. So to print every field of every record you could do something like: for rec in results: for fieldName in rec.keys(): print fieldName, ' = ', rec[ 'fieldName' ] Hope that helps (and I may be wrong, been a couple of months since I've worked with Zope SQL interface). ZSQL methods return special objects ('pluggable brains' I believe they are called - I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong). Hi Tim, I did exactly as you told me to do. The following is the python script sql="Select * from LinkArea" results = container.sql_method(the_sql=sql) for i in results: print i return printed and below is the ZSQL method: <dtml-var the_sql> when i do this, it gives me the instances, something like this.. <r instance at 01674978> <r instance at 015DAED0> <r instance at 01674978> <r instance at 015DAED0> I do not understand this. --madhavi

The problem appears in 2.4.1 - 2.5.0, what makes me think, that it is caused by the changes (a change) 2.4.0 -> 2.4.1. Maybe the problem is inside my products, and 2.4.1 - 2.5.0 does stricter checks during refresh? Zope 2.5.0 sources + OpenBSD 2.9, bug!

hello, i'm Giulio... Under OpenBSD 2.9 the "tar xvzf Zope-2.5.0-src.tgz" command extract correctly the sources, but truncate the name of 3 files and "python wo_pcgi" give me an error! ISO-8859_1_Splitter.c is truncate to ISO-885 and is trucate: UnicodeSplitter.c and ZopeSplitter.c too. If i rename the files and launch "python wo_pcgi" all is ok! Hi Jim, Thank you very much. But i want to use Python scripts to write the sql queries and not ZSQL methods. I have my ZODBCA installed and have created a obdc connection to the MS-SQL database. Can i use this (i mean the connection object) some how in the python script and query the database. --Madhavi

Looking if a record with a given key exists in a database several times, in dtml

Hi all! I have a problem: in dtml, I have to iterate through a very big list and for each item I must look if there is a record with that key in a database. I can't run a 'select' ZSQLMethod for each, because it would take too long. What I want to do is run the 'select' ZSQLMethod once and load the results in a variable (an array or dictionary) which then will be faster to look up in, or look up in the results of that query in some fast way. I have searched zope.org, but found nothing. Any ideas? Igor Leturia
